Thank you!! I've really enjoyed doing something new :) I'm going to be digging into crafting guides, tips & tricks specific to B42 and lots of other stuff after the holiday period is over.
Fun tip I've been fiddling with lately - carry a pencil and piece of paper around with you as you loot. Use it to mark off the skill book volumes you've found to keep organized, I've been doing this: "CARP: 1 2 _ 4 5" on one line, means I just need Carpentry 3, then on the next line "COOK: 1 _ _ 4 _" cause I have books 1 and 4 and need the others. As I find them, I tuck them in my bag, pause, and go change the underscores to the ones I just found. It's a pretty solid system. Also you can remind yourself of the tools you have/need to do a project or whatever else, all for 0.1 encumbrance in a fanny pack.
I started keeping a jounal in my most recent playthroughs and iv'e had a lot of fun with it. Definitely helps when you're away from the game for a while. Also the new lighting system is brutal, I dread exploring buildings when the power will end up going out.
For me the perfect zomboid "advice" trifecta is Duck being so correct it's clear he almost wants to go into the math of it all, Lime being extremely sensible but burning his food on day one. And Nurse having a near panic attack when realising build 42 made her punch zombies while holding a mouse. It's all very informative, not equally advisable.
I think it's worth noting that tv shows seem to currently be capped at only getting you to level 3, too, so it's even less of a priority to catch them all. Just a tip to those who (like me) can get really obsessive about trying to catch them all in those first few weeks -- now you're freed up to spend that time looting and exploring and just catching them when it's convenient.
I cannot wait to see what you and the team will cook up in the years to come for wilderness survival/rebuilding of society type stuff on the patreon server!
I find that knives work a lot better in 42, to the effect I can use them to actually fight. I start with Burger Flipper and Hunter though so I have a couple ranks in short blade.
Love the video! I apologize if this was already mentioned in the comments, but I would probably have noted that by destroying the passenger side window to that van, you do risk the car alarm going off. :D
Sheets can be hanged on the outside of windows. I don't know if this is new to B42 because I found it by mistake but if it is then that might be the buggy reason you got the option twice. Some walls are acting funny in B42 so it's quite possible the reason you got it on that window and not the broken one is that the engine wasn't sure if you were clicking on the inside or outside. Also, you should have kept that backpack and pointed out that it can be filled in your off-hand while using a 1-handed weapon, and goes straight into your inventory with the full weight reduction (except for it being equipped) when you equip a 2-handed weapon. It's always a good idea to carry one around to squeeze that little bet extra loot in but it's great to keep a few of them in the back of your car and fill them to minimise your time going back and forth between the boot and the loot.
I just started playing this week. I've noticed that If you hover over the keys it should highlight the doors it goes for. But catorizing where they are on a map is pretty handy as well.
My first character of build 42 is on day nine now and im about to go try to clear out the new giant guns unlimited store, wish Simon Pegg (Shaun) good luck.
Downloaded project zomboid quite a while ago but never got into it. Been mucking about in 7days instead. Just bought and downloaded the game. I’ve died like 50 times already. 10/10 would play again. I love that every single time it’s a learning experience, I’ve gotten slightly farther and farther and learned more and more, even though I still haven’t passed day 1 😅
A tip that you haven't said and is really useful since it came up in your day 1 i think is always to be in combat stance when opening doors because there is sometimes zombie on the otherside of the door and could get a jump on you
2:40 - I've broken windows and cleared out broken glass from them holding a tin can and even a rag. Not sure if that's a bug or it'll be fixed at some point but you really don't need a weapon specifically AFAIK.
You forgot to mention that keys for cars can be found on nearby zombies or the house or the driveway they’re parked in. I’ve broken unnecessary passenger windows to find the key in the house or on a zombie.
A note on removing broken glass - I don't believe it needs to be a weapon per se. I think as long as you have an item equipped in your primary hand you won't get cut. I may be wrong, and this might not be the case in b42, so test at your own risk.
yea I think even items without a 3d model can do it, can't tell for sure but I used to play with a mod that made the map all beat up from the start and I remember removing glass from windows on really freaking dire situations lol, so I think almost anything works.
anyone else notice zomboids spawning right behind you? Like, ill clear an area, and turn a corner of a yard ive already cleared and theres 5 new zeds that werent there 5 mins before?
16:41, This is the same for real life, lol! You'll have like 500 rounds of 5.56x45mm NATO, and think you have a lot, then you go through 10 mags at the range, and are like, "Oh, no, I'm almost out of ammo again!" For real, you buy a box of 100 rounds of shotgun ammo, go to the trap range and realize that was only good for 4 rounds (our range does $5 for 25 clay pigeons). Not even an hour of shooting. Then you stock up, have a couple thousand rounds, and then everyone calls you a crazy person, and asks you why anyone needs so many rounds. SMH. Ammo gets used fast.
Note: as far as I have found with my character, watching the TV shows while they play only takes me to level 3, I have not gained any experience from watching them since hitting level 3 in carpentry and cooking.
You can wait to watch shows until you have the VHS tapes and the book. Read the book, get the bonus, then start watching the tape, which is essentially a recording of the broadcast show.
I've manually set the muscle-strain multiplier to 0.3. There simply isn't enough to do while you're resting from combat. Devs need to implement a sliding-scale that slowly lowers your muscle-strain multiplier the more you use a muscle.
Yeah I just found I’d done all my cooking and odd jobs and was just waiting for strain to go down so I could actually fight my way into the tool shop in riverside. I don’t understand how we’re meant to even clear an area out temporarily with strain how it is now.
@@hippieyoda1993 well i wanted to go through my perishables before my canned goods, but mostly because in real life, i put 3 raw eggs every morning in my smoothie, i thought it was fitting 😬
opinion of short blunt or short bladed now the better wepon as the need to carry a flashlight once power goes out? i know there are new lamps for hats and belt but that depends on you finding them
short blunt is way better, short blade tends to not do a lot of damage, can only crit if a zombie is alone, and rarely do they multi hit. Meanwhile something like a police baton does good damage, multi hits, crits normally and doesn't damage zombie clothes if you want to take them, even a wrench can work in a pinch.
All good! Lime is great at these sorts of videos and I'm sure he'll rack up those views. This is still something I wanna do as it's a new style, it's fun and they are relatively easy for me to pump out while I'm building videos that take a lot more time commitment likes "tips and tricks" or deep dives on crafting :D
Can’t wait to get home tomorrow and try out the new build. A good excuse to start back in riverside. I’ve seen a number of complaints about combat fatigue. Isn’t there a setting in the sandbox options to turn it down or off if you don’t like it?
Survivor mode already has it at 0.5 instead of 1.0 Strength also decreases it by 10% per level, so professions and skills that increase it help. With Survivor mode + Stout for example I barely noticed it in combat.
Now, help me not really wanna see whats behind the rattling door. Its was 5 zombies. Thats whats behind the door. Also, tips on what goals, actions to take on death/rebirth would be helpful. I dont know what to do besides just live another day. Guess its the point though. Thanks for series! Happy holiddays
This is not my first time playing but it may as well be. Last time I played this was soooo many years ago. I remember nothing of course, and even if I did, it would almost certainly be irrelevant to today's standards. Anyways, I was wondering why I was so hot despite having stripped all my clothes off but then I tried to go to bed and realized that my health was draining extremely quickly. So when I woke up I tried to take the 9mm pill before I became someone else's problem, and sadly, that feature is apparently not implemented. Moments later I turned. I made it 3 days. So, I guess as a new player, my two questions would be: 1. How to combat? I had a crowbar. It seemed really really difficult to hit the zombies. I would swing too early or I would swing the wrong direction. If I had to deal with 2 zombies I would get scared and miss my swings even worse. I tried to let them come through windows and smash their heads while they were on the ground but they would just crawl towards me and bite my legs. What a mess. I had the thought, "Oh well, all this bleeding just means I can keep cleaning my bandages, treating my wounds, get experience," but nah...they're zombies...they bit me...I turned. 2. Is there really any way to tell, quickly, that I will turn? Like if I get just normal infected wounds, am I gonna get too hot or is overheating always an indication that I am going to turn? IRL it makes sense that your skin would get hot from infection but idk if that aspect of the game is true to life or not. PS 3rd bonus question, DAY 3 WEN WEN WEN WEN WEN???
I mean, I'm bias as this is my main game, but I've got over 1,500 hours and I'm still enjoying the new mods, updates and ways to play :) Hopefully that's a good indicator.
It’s on sale, I 100% recommend this game. Play the regular version first and don’t go for the new unstable version. Once you get a hang of it, check the workshop and mods will make everything even better.

the "simple lockpicking" mod let's you do that with a screwdriver and paperclips, "common sense" lets you do it with a crowbar too. I always miss those mods when I have to play without them.
You can sleep with pillows!? I have so many hours and I never even thought about that! Then again, mostly played with friends so sleep has never been a problem

Hm. Good question. Building will take a while, but it really is the best safehouse in Rosewood imo. It may be worth the work, plus, it's a great opportunity to level Carpentry if you can get it to level 3 before starting the building work.
Question. I have a Character that has not sleep for about three consecutive days now. It has the smoker trait but is stressed at max as I don’t find cigarettes. Do you know of that is the cause of lack of sleep?

Yeah I just found I’d done all my cooking and odd jobs and was just waiting for strain to go down so I could actually fight my way into the tool shop in riverside. I don’t understand how we’re meant to even clear an area out temporarily with strain how it is now.
13 days in, stacked with weapons ammo food supplies. Got queasy from eating 3 raw eggs and died 1hour later. Brutal
What a way to go out...
Just curious why raw eggs if you had food? 😂
Guns are definitely not recommended for beginners, but once you get situated, their'death trapiness' becomes vastly exaggerated
Hi when are you releasing the next one of these videos ? They are great !
just telling you, as this may or may not hurt you in the algorithm: privatlime is doing something very similar, but he is already at the day 6-7 video
@@MrAtomicDuck alright then :) good to hear
Looking forward to day 3
Can’t wait to get home tomorrow and try out the new build. A good excuse to start back in riverside. I’ve seen a number of complaints about combat fatigue. Isn’t there a setting in the sandbox options to turn it down or off if you don’t like it?
Yeah its called muscle strain, check the character options after choosing custom mode. Default is 0.6 now, but you can turn it off if you like
Survivor mode already has it at 0.5 instead of 1.0
Strength also decreases it by 10% per level, so professions and skills that increase it help. With Survivor mode + Stout for example I barely noticed it in combat.
"And you can sit now"
Damn it, now im changing to the beta then..
I have to say, build 42 is very enjoyable but I am also very overwhelmed with all of the new items and how you build your skills now.
Definitely understand that. I'm hoping to do some crafting guides soon :)
Yeah I think I might honestly just start starting w everything unlocked I have a life I cba to put that much time into it I have a job
I'm curious; has anyone tested if elbow pads protect the character if they break windows without a weapon?
Oooooo this is a good idea. I'll investigate.
Question: dragging zombies causes strain, does it also boost strength like pushups?
Very good question, I'll check next time I do it!
Don’t think so from what I’ve seen.
With all the keys I've been finding, I actually ran out of space on my key ring. I stopped picking up keys of buildings I've already entered.
So, I guess as a new player, my two questions would be:
Do you recommend this game? I may get it
I mean, I'm bias as this is my main game, but I've got over 1,500 hours and I'm still enjoying the new mods, updates and ways to play :) Hopefully that's a good indicator.
It’s on sale, I 100% recommend this game. Play the regular version first and don’t go for the new unstable version. Once you get a hang of it, check the workshop and mods will make everything even better.
I've just bought it last week, it's addictive 😅 definitely a good purchase, it's a hard game but so much fun!
Good, my computer skills are poor but I think if I practice I may get better
I’ve been eyeing this game for a while
Rosewood fire dept. daring today arnt we.
⭐️
Ty for watching!
rosewood fire station bookself has never had any books
when you find a "perfect" car but the doors are locked so ya gotta break a window. wish there was a way to jimmy open a car door since we can hotwire them love the changes you can see the trunk in van cars when in the drivers seat
soda is currenlty bugged i had a char just drinking em he didn't sleep for like a week
the "simple lockpicking" mod let's you do that with a screwdriver and paperclips, "common sense" lets you do it with a crowbar too.
I always miss those mods when I have to play without them.
Any dedicated PZ community you recommend? I wanna see the ropes.
ever gotten a minute long unskippable wix ad?
Oof. You hate to see it.
Not on this channel, but I’ve gotten a 40 second unskippable sports gambling ad before 🚨
Ad block, hacked app or pay for premium brotha.
Yea super scammy on UA-cam part . You can’t even fall asleep to your favorite youtubers voice in peace
@@rtruth9832i mean if you arent paying them then someone has to
I 🐱out and went custom game low population to learn crafting do a bit of exploring etc haha
Didn’t know you could read and watch the tv
They should add a fight or flight mechanic
The maintenance grind is brutal. I'm 1 month and 3 days into my run and only have 11.59 of the 75 points I need just to get rank 1.
You can sleep with pillows!? I have so many hours and I never even thought about that! Then again, mostly played with friends so sleep has never been a problem
It is a new feature in b42, more comfort with a pillow, you can even use it with a bedroll and a tent
New thing in B42!
7:21 You haven't mentioned that they can also cut you
How are you getting buildings to show on your map? Mine just looks like a foggy white and black mess
You'll only discover your local area as you explore it. Other locations can be revealed using flyers or maps found in-game.
Hey, thank you so much for this video and your response, I am super excited to jump in and watching your vods and your beginner guides have been really insightful. I am using MacOS so it looks like it’s a bug others are dealing with and I will have to wait for the patch after New Years. Thank you so much!
I keep getting 4 days to a week and die looking for a car
I kill like 150 zombie at the fire department and the place got trashed, no garage door, no doors not window. Should i ditch it or reinforce it since i have carpentry 3
Hm. Good question. Building will take a while, but it really is the best safehouse in Rosewood imo. It may be worth the work, plus, it's a great opportunity to level Carpentry if you can get it to level 3 before starting the building work.
Blocking entries with cars doesnt work anymore, they can crawl under. Was already like that in b41
Oh yeah, but it still slows them down and (IIRC) they don't crawl under them unless they aggro onto you.
My laptop keeps crashing while trying to launch b42 😅 so in the meantime i’ll just watch your video’s
Question. I have a Character that has not sleep for about three consecutive days now. It has the smoker trait but is stressed at max as I don’t find cigarettes. Do you know of that is the cause of lack of sleep?
Possibly soda keeping you up or stress from not smoking
more more more - lets go to day 200 lol
this is good
It took me an entire in game month to finally find a ball peen hammer ...
Oh wow 😂
@@MrAtomicDuck I just carved stuff until I reached "Carving 1" while I was searching the farms
As a returning player, I highly recommend the fire station as a base. Just smash the stairs and board up windows and your base is ready.
Wouldn't recommend knocking out stairs anymore! You can fall off sheet ropes and hurt yourself.
