you're meant to understand you're too far away from them to really consider them your I-can-see-you-in-person-family. you live in the uk now. take the pros and the cons
I picture the 1920s , when the wealthy would take leisurely sailing voyages. Only a few could afford the luxury of travel then. Now, surprise! You thought we were interconnected and that you had choices, but no. It’s not so bad if you just focus on the people you don’t like.
LOL! Yes, I guess they want you to travel on the back of a camel(and save the planet in the process) but if it takes too long to ride, they will tell you to teach your camel to fly.
You can get the train from London to Beijing. From there you can get local transport, mostly buses. Total journey time estimated, 11 days. This would be realistic if we had a 4 day work week and had the same holiday entitlements as most other countries. Also the journey time would be much faster if we invested more in bullet trains.
Nice video ! I have a question: do you remember hidrogen cars ? It would be great if you could have a discussion about the possibility of having hidrogen powered planes - a friend of mine who is an engineer said that this would really be a possibility but not enough companies are looking into it. What do you think about this?
But there’s so many people, friends, and family that I’ll never be able to see again. Does this mean I have to give up on seeing them again. Because flying is the only way, I’ll ever be able to physically see them again. And I’m certainly not going to be a boat to just talk to them via screen on a laptop. That’ll only make me a slave to the technology. Do I have to now let go of these relationships?
Notice that you can always make an excuse for traveling by plane. Just one vacation... a "necessary" business trip. Or simply: I love to travel (far, by plane). As an experiment, I tried to not fly all 2019. This was for the first time I've done it in my adult life. I used to go 2-5 times by plane, usually abroad. I love traveling and I love to travel by plane. That's why I'm also NOT going to fly in 2020. 2019 was a good year without those holidays abroad to warmer countries. It was also a year who I didn't go on business trips. (By plane). Also: How can I as a private person contribute the most to reducing my personal carbon footprint? By not eating meat, stop flying, travel by public transportation, electric car over a gasoline car, buy less stuff. It is a NO-BRAINER if the alarm bells are ringing (and they are). We can always pretend as the climate issue is nonexistent, or say that it doesn't matter what I do if China (or Trump) is not doing anything. You can always make a reasonable argument for why you have to travel to the other side of the planet to do XYZ. But, do you? Really? OK. So your close family-member, living on the other side of the planet is either dying or getting married, then go. Otherwise, stay, or have your vacation closer to home.
I just watched a series of a couple traveling to Budapest for a wedding, went the whole way in a electric car. That may a bit extreme for every time you want to travel abroad, but it just shows flying isn't the only way.
Azalea it depends where you’re traveling from. But: I did some research, and travelling from Norway to Spain (family of 4), is 14000 times more polluting if you travel bu plane, than an electric car. Insane!
@@Gjermund-Sivertsen That is insane. Also it would be more of an experience too. I'm planning on getting an electric car in the near future and hope i can do some road trips with it :)
@Inés Forcada Wait, so if you're going to relate the #1 way people travel across the world to murder, does my two trips to Europe make me a serial killer?
I find the notion that Africans need to fly in order to develop quite questionable. The issues primarily facing Africa are due to a lack of local development, not poor interregional connections, and investing in railways would be better for the continent, both due to the ability of connect regional centers, which is vital in a less urbanised environment, and because the construction of railroads is a far better economic stimulus than construction of airports. This talking point just seems like the aviation industry scrambling to justify itself, despite being totally incompatible with a sustainable future.
Not flying is a good step (I stopped flying after 12 non-trivial round-trip flights since June 1984 in October 1993). But fewer than 20 percent of people have ever flown. And the leading avoidable cause of climate/environment negative impacts is animal agriculture--and that highlights the need for a vegan world (I went vegan as of Friday 1 January 1993). On both and more, ace teen eco champion Greta Thunberg sets the world-class role-model standard.
I fly every thrusday and friday to work in another city. By land would take me 30 hours, I wouldn't see my children nor my family. I'll carry on flying then
If it'sfor work it is understendable. But there is lot of people who traveled a lot for hen party, b-day and shopping for weekends with budget flights without considering enviroment and overall impact of consuming staff.. For leasure and holidays it's possible to use train , bus or even discover own country.
The solution is TELEPORTATION. In Star Trek they made us an unofficial promise that teleportation("Beam me up Scottie") will be a common thing in the future, everyone would be able to teleport anywhere. Now I am starting to lose my patience: Where are the teleportation devices??? How come they did not invent them yet??? Lazyass scientists!!!
If we fly or not, nothing will change.
We can relieve some emissions with SAF and hydrogen fuels.
People: STOP FLYING IT HURTS THE PLANET
Me a Caribbean trying to go back home: confuse screaming
Am I meant to ride a camel from the UK to Bangladesh to visit family?

Sven unless they have an alternative to air travel, I am honestly not interested in this anti flying nonsense

Great good for you. I'm going to take about 20 flights this year hopefully.

Azalea I know. I’ve got an electric car. We replaced all plane-trips with it.
Still going to always use planes also it's a great feeling being up in one above the clouds

@Inés Forcada "murder" 😂
Great discussion!

But you should also consider this: A plane (if fully loaded) is more efficient than travelling in a fully loaded car, and probably a bus as well.
Thats not true
I want to fly everyday for a year for no reason
❤️

Why do you regularly work in such a distant place? Isn't there someone in that city who can do your job? It seems tremendously wasteful.
No! No! No! We definitely can't stop flying! We don't have luxury of time extension here on earth!😎
I want to be an Air Traffic Controller, and with this happening, It's not happening (I'm 13). (BTW, Chances are small of Avaition Ending) 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Where's the old anchir
So who is going to shame me at the airport as I board my flight?
Bring back the old anchor
Please keep pushing this BS. And keep flying to your climate conferences and TV interviews.
Qui vient de l’IPSA ?😂
Ain't we tired
i wonder how goods are delivered to supermarkets or online stores to fuel their progressive vegan diets are transported.Yeah, its air freight.
Ships. Maritime industry.
IF YOU PAY 10 POUNDS NOW YOU GET ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR IT! COMMUNICATE THAT!
