Marcq man i feel the same as you and Tom, although it’s gotten better, I still have my shit days pretty much most of the time. Since 2018 summer which was undeniably the best time of my life, ended and September started I really just dove into deep deep depression and ever since I got my heartbroken I was completely f*cked up and to this day I can’t get the same happiness I felt back then, all I can say is stay strong and think positive it can be hard man, I try myself and I find it hard sometimes but it is doable and I believe we will find happiness one day. The theatrical movie is underrated, people shit on it for making Tom & Jerry work together and talk, and for adding characters that 'don't fit' the series, but i think it's alright. Films break the mold from their TV counterparts all the time. Granted, the movie was my first exposure to the franchise so maybe i'm biased.
Tom and Jerry are best friends. They're the animal equivalent of two old men who have been meeting at the same park bench for 20 years, do nothing but argue with each other, but would be crushed if one were to pass away or stop coming. They need each other, they derive purpose from their endless conflicts, and deep down they care deeply for one another. Even if neither one will ever admit it.
Plot twist: The last episode is secretly the first episode... ( idk why but, Butch is poor in some episodes, so if Butch is rich here, that White Cat might have spent all of his money and Butch became a poor, street cat )

I think there is no villain or an evil person, sometimes we just think that believing from the Heroes' perspective too much is the problem. Like every villain has a reason on why they're motivated to destroy the society or the peoples' lives because of how they were treated from them before.
It's interesting and also ironic, that every other episode Butch is in , he's a homeless stray cat, eating off trash bins and here all of a sudden he's the richest cat in the world 😂 while Tom usualy lives in a normal house with his owners and has a full fridge and every bit of comfort.

Random theory: Tom and Jerry are actually friends but Tom pretends to be mean because if the owners found out Tom was friends with a mouse, they would replace home with a cat that would kill Jerry.
The fact that I thought Tom and Jerry was from the 90s but turned out to be even older dating back to the 50s just shows that it was a cartoon ahead of it's time despite its simplistic plot. Animationwise, it's really well animated especially for something that came from the 50s. The background paintings are always well done, they add detailed textures for the scenery like the plants, the objects, the wood. The water animation is also decent, like the splashes, the waves and the droplets especially since these were all amde by hand. The color palette is just right, not too saturated like modern cartoons like Oggy and the Cockroaches or Teen Titans Go. Overall, no wonder this 50s cartoon still holds up to the present and a timeless series.
I have a theory. Tom and Jerry is either a time loop or they get new owners every time that happens which explains why the series continuously gets renewed. Edit: this is really cool. A lot of people are actually looking into this even after a year since I've written this comment. Now, ItsXoar may be correct but it is still possible that they get new owners or this is a time loop involving different properties such as new owners, homes, and etc. Only to end in the same way it always has. John Doe could be right too, seeing that they can survive a heavy amount of physical trauma and Butch is constantly looking for other ladies.
My theory, this is the first episode. Butch is poor in other episodes and Tom and Jerry are no longer friends. So I think that at the last second, they both decided not to die and ran off the tracks, but they didn't make it in time so they both got bonked in the head by the train and forgot who they were. Tom was hungry since he spent all his money so he's been trying to eat Jerry ever since. Then of course, Butch got divorced and milked out of every penny from the goldigger.

I am so happy that this topic is being discussed openly like this. As someone who's been fighting depression, it feels good to see that I was not wrong for having reached out to a professional this year. 2020-2022 has been the worst 2 year stretch of my life. I lost countless family members (including 3 babies). I seriously contemplated s#@#ide. Even as a believing and practicing Christian, I realized that just like you go to a doctor for a physical health impairment, you need to seek out a professional should you have a mental breakdown.

The part where jerry walks up and Tom moves over to make space for him is as masterful as it is depressing. Tom doesn’t care about anything anymore and yet still realizes jerry is in the same boat and welcomes him. The past between them is in the past and he realizes they are more alike than he ever thought and with that they quietly agree to accept there impending fate together. They have in the past hated each other and in the end they are all the other one has. Powerful.

I recently had the feeling that Tom went through at the start of October this year. A very good friend of mine outright stopped talking and then (from what I could tell) blocked me on WhatsApp without any explanation. I felt massively betrayed after all the affection she had put out whenever we were together. She was strictly a friend, but it really hurt having all that affection gone overnight without any explanation. I came to this video to remind myself that I'm not alone and that there are more friends who are more friendship worthy to me than someone who just acts affectionate, globs onto them for a while before moving on to another individual. I'm at Uni now and I'm glad to be around a larger group of people and friends instead of feeling like I had just one at that time.

It’s a great episode and narrated by Jerry’s character who is all-seeing of Tom’s mistakes and downfalls (and continues to be there for his friend) until the point his own life takes a turn for the worse - it’s a fine comedic tragedy and perfectly told through the various gags and escalations. I love how T&J are happy in each other’s company at the start and depressed together side-by-side at the end. The suicide element IS dark but in the cartoon it’s an allegory for hitting rock bottom - death is what makes it tragic in a classical sense.

The way that Jerry was presented ( as a small mouse) really reflects the reality of life, where nowadays people think they need everything in life to feel good, but Jerry (from this episode and many more) shows that you should be grateful for what you have, from family to close friends, no matter how small they are and we should be grateful they are there. Where Tom was unable to see that Jerry really meant well. *edit when I said small, I meant that it may be hard for someone to realize the presence of someone who cares for them.

@@dnascrap I get like that too sometimes. I am a late bloomer. I decided to go to college and an apprenticeship a little later than some. I know it will not be in vain. Also, if I can at least help someone and touch their heart, then I know I made a difference. Sometimes just saying hi to someone improves their day dramatically. It's never too late.
Tom and Jerry was teaching kids about real life problems and mental health, while being a comedy. This episode was depressing, but I appreciate how it portrayed these problems.
Not going to lie, I really needed to hear this. Life's been kicking my ass lately and I've been struggling to keep up. The stress of work and going to college combined with knowing that none of my relatives care about me makes me cry myself to sleep at night. I joined two pool leagues and have been using them as an excuse to get out of the house. I joined a church but lately my attendance has been lacking due to decreased motivation. I don't know what's wrong but I feel like I'm alone. I get lost in my thoughts and I don't even find joy in video games like I used to. I'm at work right now, but even in my office, hearing someone say "I love you" even if not directly specifically at me made me cry a little. I need to get back to work. The episode where they both got their hearts broken is actually one of my favs because it comes closest to giving them humanistic attributes I can relate with. I don’t know where you get the idea that anything is dark or unsettling. I mean even as a kid, this episode only made me feel more connected to them at an emotional level than any of the senseless violence and fussy antics they were involved in.
Jerry was a true friend in this episode trying to help tom not simp for a girl that is out of his league but when Jerry realized he's gone through the same thing. He has the same feelings as tom miserable and depressed which explains why the ending of that episode is said to be dark.

As a kid, my brother and I laughed our rears off to this episode. My uncle was present and he told me and my brother to watch this 25 years from now....damn this is the most realistic episode he was right.
Having viewed this episode from a different standpoint for years has me shocked. When I first watched the episode as a kid, i didn't think much of the girl wanting richness aspect, but I was kinda salty at butch for screwing Tom over, and goddamn that ending, it was the saddest freaking thing ever, considering I actually realized what had happened right as the screen faded black. I get this episode a little more now that it just hits that much harder though. Apparently I've heard they censored the ending in later airings but I'm not sure completely. I remember the one with the loud train noises coming closer and then fading when it sounded like they were so close to the screen that they were about to get hit. Others apparently say these train noises either don't occur, or only play for like 2 seconds now.
Most probably someone among them or a friend of theirs went through this very same scenario. As a reminder to us boys, they gave a message through this episode.
There were other cartoons where the character was suicidal. A songbird wanted Sylvester to eat him after having s spat with his wife. I think a mouse too. Then there was a Disney cartoon where Daisy put a gun to her head after Donald dumped her to persue a singing career!
Butch can enjoy the bitch while it lasts. He can only give her so much before she gets bored and goes with someone else once the lake dries up in Butch's alley. Then even Butch will end up sitting on the tracks too.
Kindness cannot be forced, though. Not all ppl are gonna accept your kindness as it is. Doesn't mean being kind is wrong, just that ppl could perceive kindness differently. To tom, maybe his action is kindness, to the white cat, his act maybe a desperate act that could be perceived as a creepy action that might get one blocked if done to modern woman like stalkers do. Nobody is in the wrong here, just different expectation, I guess.

What Tom wrong here is he became blinded with his love for that gold digger cat. You know what ? I always try to find people in comment section to discuss issues. But most of them don’t reply. I don’t have any real friends whom I can share my feeling or have someone who thinks like me. But after reading your comment I have realised that there are others who might think like I do.
I actually cried. I feel for Tom. Felt like that too with pursuing love that I know I will never get. I will never look at Tom and Jerry the same way again. For all the laughs they have gave us, this one hit like a truck and the show really gave us more than happiness. It teaches us a bit about life. It makes me grateful that I have people who love and support me.

The theatrical movie is underrated, people shit on it for making Tom & Jerry work together and talk, and for adding characters that 'don't fit' the series, but i think it's alright. Films break the mold from their TV counterparts all the time. Granted, the movie was my first exposure to the franchise so maybe i'm biased.
Tom and Jerry are best friends. They're the animal equivalent of two old men who have been meeting at the same park bench for 20 years, do nothing but argue with each other, but would be crushed if one were to pass away or stop coming. They need each other, they derive purpose from their endless conflicts, and deep down they care deeply for one another. Even if neither one will ever admit it.
Right, they fight a lot but in their darkest moments they have each other.

The fact that I thought Tom and Jerry was from the 90s but turned out to be even older dating back to the 50s just shows that it was a cartoon ahead of it's time despite its simplistic plot. Animationwise, it's really well animated especially for something that came from the 50s. The background paintings are always well done, they add detailed textures for the scenery like the plants, the objects, the wood. The water animation is also decent, like the splashes, the waves and the droplets especially since these were all amde by hand. The color palette is just right, not too saturated like modern cartoons like Oggy and the Cockroaches or Teen Titans Go. Overall, no wonder this 50s cartoon still holds up to the present and a timeless series.

Edit: this is really cool. A lot of people are actually looking into this even after a year since I've written this comment. I recently had the feeling that Tom went through at the start of October this year. A very good friend of mine outright stopped talking and then (from what I could tell) blocked me on WhatsApp without any explanation.
I felt massively betrayed after all the affection she had put out whenever we were together. She was strictly a friend, but it really hurt having all that affection gone overnight without any explanation.
I came to this video to remind myself that I'm not alone and that there are more friends who are more friendship worthy to me than someone who just acts affectionate, globs onto them for a while before moving on to another individual. I'm at Uni now and I'm glad to be around a larger group of people and friends instead of feeling like I had just one at that time.

It’s a great episode and narrated by Jerry’s character who is all-seeing of Tom’s mistakes and downfalls (and continues to be there for his friend) until the point his own life takes a turn for the worse - it’s a fine comedic tragedy and perfectly told through the various gags and escalations.
I love how T&J are happy in each other’s company at the start and depressed together side-by-side at the end.
The suicide element IS dark but in the cartoon it’s an allegory for hitting rock bottom - death is what makes it tragic in a classical sense.

The way that Jerry was presented ( as a small mouse) really reflects the reality of life, where nowadays people think they need everything in life to feel good, but Jerry (from this episode and many more) shows that you should be grateful for what you have, from family to close friends, no matter how small they are and we should be grateful they are there. Where Tom was unable to see that Jerry really meant well.

Not going to lie, I really needed to hear this. Life's been kicking my ass lately and I've been struggling to keep up. The stress of work and going to college combined with knowing that none of my relatives care about me makes me cry myself to sleep at night. I joined two pool leagues and have been using them as an excuse to get out of the house. I joined a church but lately my attendance has been lacking due to decreased motivation. I don't know what's wrong but I feel like I'm alone. I get lost in my thoughts and I don't even find joy in video games like I used to. I'm at work right now, but even in my office, hearing someone say "I love you" even if not directly specifically at me made me cry a little. I need to get back to work. The episode where they both got their hearts broken is actually one of my favs because it comes closest to giving them humanistic attributes I can relate with. I don’t know where you get the idea that anything is dark or unsettling. I mean even as a kid, this episode only made me feel more connected to them at an emotional level than any of the senseless violence and fussy antics they were involved in.
Jerry was a true friend in this episode trying to help tom not simp for a girl that is out of his league but when Jerry realized he's gone through the same thing. He has the same feelings as tom miserable and depressed which explains why the ending of that episode is said to be dark.
The thot girl was not "out of his league". She was a useless thot and Tom gave up his life for her.

As a kid, my brother and I laughed our rears off to this episode. My uncle was present and he told me and my brother to watch this 25 years from now....damn this is the most realistic episode he was right.

Having viewed this episode from a different standpoint for years has me shocked. When I first watched the episode as a kid, i didn't think much of the girl wanting richness aspect, but I was kinda salty at butch for screwing Tom over, and goddamn that ending, it was the saddest freaking thing ever, considering I actually realized what had happened right as the screen faded black. I get this episode a little more now that it just hits that much harder though. Apparently I've heard they censored the ending in later airings but I'm not sure completely. I remember the one with the loud train noises coming closer and then fading when it sounded like they were so close to the screen that they were about to get hit. Others apparently say these train noises either don't occur, or only play for like 2 seconds now.
I wonder how depressed the creators had to be to make this episode.
