I made a lamp for mine using a white LED and adding a dropping resistor in series with it. It looks the same and hopefully will never burn out like the special little incandescent bulb does. I have both versions of Sam, the single stroke one as well as the 2 stroke one. If you want to rewind the solenoid coil, it is 491 turns of #24 enameled wire according to Robert Hannon's "S Gauge Reference Manual."
That's probably what I will do as well using LED's with resistor. Normally I like incandescent lamps but for confined spaces LED's are a no brainer. I'll probably be buying some bulk enameled wire and rewinding that coil. First time I powered it did not work, then after repair it worked, then failed again, very intermittent.
Great video and great trains. Good job!
Excellent presentation. Hope Sam feels better soon.
Thanks for watching

Sorry to hear about Sam. Great job cleaning it up.
I'm thinking I will have to rewind a new coil.
You get an A for effort. Maybe you will find a solenoid for Sam. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I'm actually very pleased how it turned out except for the solenoid. I'm probably going to try re-winding it. Merry Christmas!
I have a large amout of nascar all in the original package would be looking to trade for American Flyer train set
