My PS5 has reached over 2 years of usage, and recently, it's been unexpectedly shutting down 5 to 6 times daily. I have to unplug the AC cord every time and perform a hard reboot. Following your guide step by step was truly nerve-wracking, but it was certainly necessary. The interior of my console had significantly more dust than yours. It appears to be functioning well now. I'll need to determine if it resolved the problem. Thank you immensely for your guidance. You've gained a subscriber.

Great video I’ve had a PS5 that couldn’t play PS5 games (random shut down) for a very long time. Oddly enough it would play ps4 games and stream apps all day long with no issue. In the past I’ve always just cleaned up to the point where I took out the fan hoping it might make it work correctly. Even sent it to Sony twice with no real fix. Honestly this issue didn’t resolve until I got to the power supply which was caked with dust and causing the system to overheat. It might be scary but follow this video ALL the way and hopefully you’ll get your PS5 back and not some glorified PS4.
I'm having the same issue. I don't have the proper tools to correctly disassemble the console. I'm going to try using a knife. I might break something but I'd rather do that than to have the console turn off every 15 minutes.
You should be able to pick up the T8 at a Walmart they are rather easy to find. I would be careful not to damaged those special T8 screws which I think would happen using a knife. I hear you though. I was so frustrated I felt like I had nothing to lose at that point. I’m so glad it works now. Rather than being vertical I’m now placing the system horizontal and vacuuming it each day. Hopefully that will make a difference and I won’t have to go through the effort of disassembly again.
Holy Moses, I did it. Thanks man. I was shitting bricks the whole time. Taking apart something that's $500+ is nerve racking but my little one being sad because he can't play is heartbreaking.

@imkushpakmann8931 Because of how much dust it accumulates in the radiator through the vents. When there's more than enough it automatically shuts off the ps5. The amount of years its been out has no relevance if the whole issue is that it's a dust magnet
Ive just been doing the fan over the last year and a half but noticed today its a state in mine... A real state. Ive ordered the kit and will be back to your video soon. Thank you.
I just cleaned mine first time since from launch day, and it had barely any dust, but it’s because it’s high up, that ps5 probably sits on the floor/carpet.
This is what happens when people keep their consoles on all the time. My launch PS3 didn't even have that much dust in it when I opened it up to change the battery after the, "CMOS scare."
Ok people are thick headed here. 1st mine is well ventilated on tv console air filter near by in room. Don’t matter how you cut it dust always finds a way. I do what I can to ensure my gaming devices last but unfortunately housing/location plays a huge part here.
@@bradleyreesecorcoran If you dust and vacuum weekly while not keeping the console on 24/7, it’s never going to be like that. As I said, I opened my launch PS3 for the first time during the CMOS scare and it wasn’t even as bad as that.

@@TheDefiledShell I'm thinking of getting a PS5 and the only one in my price range is the digital edition. Is the disassembly basically the same but without the disc drive?
Hi Great video, quick question at 10:21 when you are removing the two screws for the back housing, can we do that without removing the motherboard and everything? So basically just remove the fan, disconnect the cables out in the front and then take out the radiator from behind? I have searched everywhere and nobody seems to be looking at this angle. if you could do that it would become very easy to clean out the radiator.
It’s not possible cause u have that one ribbon cable at the bottom that’s under the metal housing and another small one that is not covered…So indeed u need to remove the metal plating and then the housing
Just done this in the hopes my PS5 wont power off anymore 😭 you should have seen the amount of dust in there!! 😮 The radiators were caked in it. Here's to hoping it's good as new 🤞🏻
All the vents on SX and PS5 ensure that disassembly is likely never required to remove dust bunnies. One can snake the plastic straw from a can of compressed air into every corner of the heat sinks, psu etc.
After 3 and almost a half years, I finally decided to go all in and clean this sucker out throughand through. Wasn't as bad as the PS4 I used to have but still could use it for sure. Like how overall simple the PS5 is to disassemble, though there are tons of screws lol.
People having overheating problems after one year? I didnt clean my ps4 for 5 years and even then i did it just because i felt like cleaning it not because it wasnt working properly. Does the ps5 get more dusty if its positioned horizontally or vertically?
Thanks for the video. Very detailed. The only part I got confused at was after putting the hard drive back in place and put the black cover over it I had screws inside 2 of the holes. So I had to pause the video and see which hole you skip the screws in and got it correct. Thanks
As someone who had to replace the top screen of a launch day 3DS, this is SO MUCH easier to do maintenance on. If you’re scared of disassembling your PS5, don’t be. Once you start doing it, it’s as simple as a Lego set. If I, a college dropout with minimal hardware experience can do it this easily, you can do it with none, no problem. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Had the basic idea of the build, but allways good to have a excellent vid to have playing in the background just to see all is done properly. Thnx for the vid man, subbed! 👍
Thank you tried this all the way through to my heat sink cleaned it out hasn’t turned off over 12 hours of gaming now I’m cleaning my friends ps5 for 40 dollars
For those of you who feel at ease with disassembling hardware, I recommend redistributing and adding more liquid metal to your PS5 if you keep it in a vertical position. This will prevent the liquid metal from gathering on one side and leaving a dry spot on the APU, which can lead to overheating issues.
@@lancealex382you can open it and put it back with no issues, so long as you don't spread it out when you have it open. You can even add more assuming you buy the correct kind of your PS5 has a dry spot starting to form.
Honestly the PS5 is really easy to take apart apart. Although just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s not annoying because of the amount of amount of the 7.3 mm screws on the board
If you want optimum performance, ensure you clean the surfaces of fan blades and dusty areas with windex and q-tips or something to truly clean the surface. Makes a big difference.
Yea best to use 99% or 70% alcohol on anything plastic as glass cleaners have other things in them to help clean glass that can be bad for plastic or degrade plastic so look at the bottle of the windex see what it says about plastic cleaning as just looked up windex on plastic surface online as says no as can cause irreparable damage to plastic. So be carful on what you use it wont brake the plastic fast but will make it brittle over time and easy to snap.

Cool video but, I would assume less than 1% of all PS5 owners would do this completely. Most will go as far as removing the fan and using a vacuum to suck out any dust in the fan compartment..
I got mine in June and i'll be cleaning mine in December. I like that on the PS5 the main mobo and the heatsink are a sandwich that you don't have to take apart. Seems to be kinda easy to take the PS5 apart.
hopefully this works, just ordered a tool kit. my ps5 that I got the month it released now turns off every time I play a ps5 based game (ps4 games play fine) I can't get through the 3rd quarter in a game of 2k before the whole system cuts off (so about 15 minutes). I then have to disconnect the power supply wait a couple seconds before I plug it back in. Its got to the point where I don't even feel like playing anymore because I can't even get through a game
@@prograpsYT I took it to a local shop, they said when that happens it’s usually either dust deep inside the ps5 that’s overheating it or the power supply might be damaged, luckily for me it was just dust. Had to be fully taken apart

I actually had some of the light blue thermal pad compound left from my M.2 SSD heatsink and just added a little piece on top of all the chips. I used some MX-4 to dab on top of the capacitors and other contact points on the bottom side so when I put the plate back on I did not have to worry about contact. Use Air Compressor to blow that stupid dust inside and to avoid tearing the warranty seal
@@jethEngine exactly.. compressor or compressed air in a can. It should do the job good enough, especially if You do this regulary e.g. every half a year. For me it works perfectly fine.

Took just about 2 hours to complete while watching your video. Easy to follow steps and straight to the point.
Bro thank you for actually showing where the last screw is under the warranty label. I’ve watch over 10 different vids and none of them explained that. I thought I was going crazy

After cleaning a truly horrifying amount of dust out of the radiator it runs good as new. Taking it apart was way easier than I expected thanks to the clear walkthrough here. Thank you!
And if you end up with some extra parts when your done putting it back together make sure you give yourself a pat on the back you just found a more efficient way to build it than the manufacturer.... Lol

Did this today becauseeven thi i cleaned the fan it wasnt enough, first time opening the ps5 up like this but it went well and I also seen a big clump of dust that was sitting on top of the motherboard on those copper vents and just to be sure I opened it up further like the video showed and it's working great so far, I'll update yall soon
Good video! The amount of dust clogging the power supply and radiator was immense. No wonder my console only stayed on an hour at a time. Now i can play the new God of War in peace. Thanks!

Well? PS5 still running after a good clean?

@XayvionSkyViews how is it now? Does it still show you that overheat warning and shut off? If not I’m gonna do this to mine

This is by far one of the best videos on this subject out there I’ve seen. I like the way you use your tools, good tips.
I just removed the radiator fan, cleaned it with all the vents, used a blow dryer for the remainder of the cleaning. Worked perfectly!!

Nice easy video to follow. Would normally never consider trying this but since my warranty was up thought I'd give it a try as my ps5 started shutting off itself. Could not believe the amount of dust inside especially the power unit. That is with several cleans over the past 14 months with compressed air etc. So far ps5 seems fine again if i can do it anyone can. Probably saved me £ on repair bill. Thanks for this video much appreciated.

i did it and now my ps5 beeps 3 times and automatically turns off. did i do something wrong?
Wait, you sent it to SONY TWICE and they still didn't clean it properly when doing the 'repair'? WTAF SONY, that's not even close to good enough 🤬🤬
Holy Moses, I did it. Thanks man. I was shitting bricks the whole time. Taking apart something that's $500+ is nerve racking but my little one being sad because he can't play is heartbreaking.
I kept facing shutdown issues while playing games, finally took the courage to try this deep clean. There was a layer of dirt on my heatsink and it took me 2 1/2 hrs to clean it thoroughly. Hoping this fixes the issue, your video was so easy to follow yet so detailed at the same time. Wether my issue is resolved or not you get my subscribe for the sheer fact that you made it easy to execute this clean up. Thank you so so much for this.

I don’t even have the same model (imagine my frustration when I got it completely disassembled), and I was still able to use your video to swap my supply out. Thank you.

How tf is ur ps5 overheating its only been out for 2 years
@imkushpakmann8931 Because of how much dust it accumulates in the radiator through the vents. When there's more than enough it automatically shuts off the ps5. The amount of years its been out has no relevance if the whole issue is that it's a dust magnet

Great video , was pretty shocking how much dust was in there after only 4 months
Yeah I think my ps5 gets some static electricity charge on its surface and ends up attracting a lot of fine dust every day.

Thank you 🙏🙏 my console said it was overheating and took it apart and cleaned it and so far it’s working.
Wondered the same thing
@@alexciuc1949 thanks for the reply. 👍👍
One can snake the plastic straw from a can of compressed air into every corner of the heat sinks, psu etc.
finally someone who understand this you simply blow air trough the radiator and vacuum it
After 3 and almost a half years, I finally decided to go all in and clean this sucker out throughand through. Wasn't as bad as the PS4 I used to have but still could use it for sure. Like how overall simple the PS5 is to disassemble, though there are tons of screws lol.
Thank you 👌just put it back together. Didn’t lose 1 screw
Thanks, I was afraid at first but it wasn't too difficult at the end. I did find 2 mosquitos inside though
People having overheating problems after one year? I didnt clean my ps4 for 5 years and even then i did it just because i felt like cleaning it not because it wasnt working properly. Does the ps5 get more dusty if its positioned horizontally or vertically?
when they have filthy rooms with alot of dust and cats/dogs that hair alot.
Doesnt really matter in which position.

For those of you who feel at ease with disassembling hardware, I recommend redistributing and adding more liquid metal to your PS5 if you keep it in a vertical position. This will prevent the liquid metal from gathering on one side and leaving a dry spot on the APU, which can lead to overheating issues.

Cleaning it every week is too much
Honestly the PS5 is really easy to take apart apart.
Alcohol and qtips is better, preferably 99%.
That's not dust. It looks more like dog or cat hair.

I actually had some of the light blue thermal pad compound left from my M.2 SSD heatsink and just added a little piece on top of all the chips. I used some MX-4 to dab on top of the capacitors and other contact points on the bottom side so when I put the plate back on I did not have to worry about contact. From what I have read different thermal compounds should be compatible, I hope.
