Thanks Rich. I'm hoping that Marco Lang will come out with some more movements and watches for his new company, Marco Lang Watches. Love the watches that Marco made for L&H, but I don't expect much new from L&H, and I'm hoping that Marco (www.marcolangwatches.com/en/main-page/) will have a few models that we can afford. Yes, Barış, I think that was a good move by L&H. They modified a Marco Lang design (the UWD 33.1) and created a watch that was both attractive and (relatively) affordable. Currently, the Hektor seems to be sold out here is the U.S. Take care, Bill

Great video Bill! The Dr. Strange watch is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual. Wonderful perpetual calendar for under $20k on the secondary market. Those Lange & Heyne watches are amazing. Very different aesthetic overall. A video on the comparison of German watches to their Swiss equivalent showing the differences would be cool. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic series Bill. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase the green dial version of the Hektor. They only made 99 (33 in each color), but I hope they make more because it is amazing and more people should be able to experience this watch. I ordered it when it was announced in October and it arrived in April.
The most surprising thing about this piece is the bracelet. The finishing on it is spectacular. The polished petticoat accents play with the light in a way photos can’t represent. The bracelet is sturdier than I expected, and it’s incredibly comfortable and balanced.
The movement is interesting. I was fascinated by the way they made it an indirect center seconds without having to add an intermediate wheel. Its almost like the 33.1 was designed with the foresight of eventually extending it to support center seconds. The architecture is superb, and the finishing is what you’d expect at this price point.
I would love to see this line get more attention. I think they’d have to make more of these for that to happen though.

Some great watches there, Bill! I think Longines now offer great quality for the price. The Reverso is one of my favourites - I love both the mono- and duo- face versions. But, I always think that JLC should find a way to produce a display caseback version - in these days of sapphire it's no less strong and would be cool to see that little shaped gem of a movement. First off, thanks for this video. How timely.
Bill, I’m looking very seriously at the L&H Georg. May I check-in with you and your viewers for your opinion:If you were to place an order for this watch, which variant will you get?
    I am torn between:
    - white vs the rose gold. The former will wear cold and the latter, quite warm
    - in terms of customisation, which hands work the best, over time? For your opinions please
    - finish of the hands as well, gold or blues hands?
    - do you folks feel it is worth it to have the blue cabouchon on the crown? It’s an extra $1.5k I believe. Not sure if they still offer this presently in 2022 but I will find out
    - Strap colours
Ok have narrowed my choice to a white enamel dial. I think the black, though different, will not bring out the design elements of the watch quite as well.
Do weigh in and I would love to hear your opinions. I do note that anyone choosing a white gold case will have a an opaline border around the master movement on the reverse side of the watch!
    Thanks guys.

Hi Bill, forgive me if I missed it in your video. Is there any particular reason that you are not into silicon hairspring?

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  2 роки тому +5

Azizan, silicon hairsprings solve a myriad of problems for mechanical watches: they are wholly unaffected by magnetic influences (they're non-magnetic), they are not as affected by heat and cold, and they keep their shape. However, they cannot be adjusted. Silicon is brittle, and the only way to adjust the balance is through adjusting the weights. If I wanted to have better accuracy, I would have kept my old quartz watches (quartz is nothing by silicon and oxygen). Or I would have got a Smart Watch with a link to an atomic clock that keeps near-perfect time. However, watch collection for me is in the traditional methods and materials found in watches made with transitional metals like steel, titanium, niobium and other transitional metals. Silicon is a metalloid (as is arsenic) and while perfectly capable of helping to keep time accurately in a mechanical watch, it just doesn't fit into the reason I got into watch collection. Take care, Bill.

I have the Zulu Time. It is accurate, amagnetic, and truly beautiful. I'm aspiring to acquire a Duoface Reverso next year to be my dress watch. The third tier is out of my reach.
Did you ever own a Reverso and if you did, what did you like or hate about it. Jaeger-LeCoultre does have other awesome watches too, but I feel that I'm not ready to get a second watch from a maison yet. I need to experience more before I do that. Hi Olli, yeah, I guess I do. Same with watch companies that claim "Swiss made" movement instead of Sellita or ETA...or whatever movement they're using. I suppose I just don't like the idea of rolling over for silicon in the most vital part of a mechanical watch. Take care, Bill

Omar, I just don't like metalloids in traditional watchmaking. Silicon is brittle and you cannot adjust the spring. They're practical in a lot of ways, but I didn't get into High Horology for practical time-keeping ... my iPhone does that just fine or I could get a Smart Watch. I really don't have anything against them in that anyone who wants to get one will have a watch not affected by magnetic fields nor have their hairspring distorted by extreme heat or cold.
