Give you massive props for acknowledging that there are legitimate national security concerns around tik tok, it's human nature to have blinders on when something can impact your business
If Tik Tok gets deported from the US, creators are creative and will find new ways to connect. Stan will evolve alongside creators, grow stronger, and ultimately continue thriving

Been following your content for a few years and I have to say this was my favorite video of yours yet. The leadership you showed in navigating this fire (and the fires to come) will be what gets Stan to the top. IG and UA-cam must be chomping at the bit. UA-cam has already been increasing efforts into UA-cam Shorts the last couple of years. If this TikTok ban goes through, I can see them rebranding Shorts into its own short form content platform to replace TikTok.

It will just slow your growth and slash the revenue slightly. BUT, if it does happen I think you should just follow the creators because ultimately you have to go where they go and than double down on that new path. VC pressure might increase :) Rooting for you guys!

Curious to hear your thoughts -- in a world where TikTok in the U.S. goes away completely vs. is sold / spun out, is UA-cam or Meta better positioned to win short-form video? My hunch is UA-cam but I'm not well versed on either.
I think IG will likely be categorical winner in short-term, UA-cam mobile is still kinda iffy and I don't think it's wired into folks' brain like the IG pathway. UA-cam will definitely win a ton too to be clear.
great video. no idea what "time on a macro scale is zero sum in terms of user retention" but it sounds smart.
Zero sum as in all the time users wont be spending on Tiktok they will have to spend somewhere else (most likely on other social media).
john is stresssed - he is going through the same thing people went through went facebook locked down their api after cambridge analytica. Should be fine though, there will be a platform to fill the void.

@@jayhoovy Most of the creator shifted to Instagram. And few new platforms emerged specifically replacing tiktok (moj, sharechat, and more)
@@jayhoovy It all shifted to Instagram and Snapchat broski. And there were a couple of clones that tried to copy the TikTok thing, but Reels & Snapchat grew immensely thereafter.
