I lived beside the mainline out of Paddington, my father worked as a fire dropper at Old Oak Common sheds. I used to go there to meet him, health and safety wouldn't allow it now.
@4chipp Hello, I know where the loction of the shed is, but thank you for putting it right, I was just meaning to say, that Holbeck is the Top Shed (Not Longsight or as everybody puts, King Cross) it is just a bit of banter amongst us railway men)

i am pretty certain this is stoke shed (5D) . IT was modernised in the late 30s , also you can see the Biddulph Valley line cuving away beyond the new turntable .
It's not. It's Longside shed and the station is London Rd. Manchester. In part 2 6170 is booked on the Comet 5.45 which was the return working back to Euston calling at Stafford.
I think that in all aspects of film making this easily matches anything produced by the GPO Film Unit. A shame about the quality of reproduction but better that than not get to see it at all!
I'm not sure that either I or my (late) father would agree. You see my father thought that the *GPO* film *_Night Mail_* is better than any film of the *LMS Film Unit* - and he should have known as he set up and ran the *LMS Film Unit!*
A wonderful memory of the Longsight sheds .. I used to go there with my brother on a Sunday afternoon .. train spotting .. back in the early 1950s!

6170 British Legion had been the high pressure engine Fury. She was reboilered and effectively became the first rebuilt Royal Scot.
Lovely old footage ,,great narration !!

Ash lifting plant. Sounds a great idea from someone who has shoveled out an ash pit or two
@Jonny7railways Too true fantastic to watch
ALL THAT DUST !!!! Imagine - Health and Safety today would insist railwaymen wear a silver space suit with breathing apparatus. LOL
Holbeck MPD, top shed
