Das Quartett aus Kalifornien ist eine Rockband reinsten Wassers. Basierend auf klassischem Retro-Sound, der teils an die Yardbirds erinnert, lassen sie den British Invasion Blues der 60er ebenso wieder auferstehen wie den Blues-Rock der 70er Jahre.
Als Sänger noch alles aus sich herausholten, zugleich aber zu singen verstanden, als Gitarren nicht als reines Werkzeug zur Erzeugung von Soundgewittern dienten, sondern zur prägnanten Umsetzung von Songideen, als Rhythmusgruppen noch mehr als den bloßen, stampfenden Beat vorgaben - als all diese Zutaten in einem lauten Sound kulminierten, muss eine Zeitmaschine die Rival Sons aufgesogen und im Hier und Jetzt wieder ausgespuckt haben.

Mate I’ve been banging their drum for the last 11 years. Saw them in Wolverhampton UK in 2011 ( Slade rooms it is posted ) and it was the best gig I’ve ever been to. 100 % agree with your approach , let’s spread the word !

Yep. These guys are awesome, and have IT, that certain magic or soul chemistry. The power and prowess of early raw Zep, but with the vocal intensity and tenderness of someone like Joplin (not that anything ever lacked with Robert Plant). More than that though, they have their own certain something. A once in a generation kind of thing, if not rarer. Every song, performance, and moment is shot through with today, NOW, not nostalgia or wannabe posturing. In a word, genuine. Like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Groove on men!

I'm going on 72 this year and was very lucky to see some of the greatest bands in my day. Rival Sons are great and their legacy will be the gold standard.

Why only such few reviews here. This is one of the best recordings of Rival Sons I've ever seen!!!! The most underrated band ever.
I can only speak for myself but I just found the Sons a few weeks ago (I live in Bumfuck & I'm also 57, so I'm the smartest old fart in the county lol) and I just found the incredible Rockpalast channel today.
Great band, and Rockpalast has the BEST live shows of ANY BAND.
It’s a year later or six years after this performance and the amazing RIVAL SONS are still playing small venues. Good for fans, not so much for them. I think things will get better for them. Why do kids like to watch people doing physical jerks to computerized shit music, idk. They could be seeing real rock. ♾RIVAL SONS forever!♾

Rock media sucks. These guys should be a household name. Greta Van Fleet got the coverage for aping zeppelin and being teenagers. These guys have been kicking ass for well over a decade.

Saw them live in 2019 with a buddy who didn't know their music and just bought a ticket on my sales pitch. Best vocal performance I've ever seen, maybe the best show I've ever seen live. Jay is no doubt the best singer out there at the moment.
Love these guys, see them every time they come to Boston, MA but man do I miss hearing some of these older songs live.
Best REAL rock band I've heard in a long time! Actually unbelievable in this day and age. Humble Pie/Zeppelin/Sabbath all in one with a little Lonesome Dave and Foghat on the side!

Just did at the Bloomsburg Fair Pa. Drove 3 hours from Md. They acceded all expectations. Just awesome as all get out.

One of the best rock bands out there. I want to see these guys, dirty honey and the struts at one show. It would be incredible.
Ozzy took notice of how good these guys were and had them open for him years ago. They are phenomenal, but, radio being what it is, they don't get the amount of airplay they deserve, only every now and then.
Have seen them opening for Black Sabbath in huge stadium and playing own gigs in smaller venue. Always give it 100% do not miss a chance see them live !
I have seen Rival Sons a couple times this past year and consider it nothing less than a true gift. I was overcome with emotion the first time I seen them, I sobbed the first 4 songs. Also had a chance to meet Jay at Brooklyn Steel. Very kind and gracious.

The guitar solo during "Manifest Destiny Part 1" starts at around 49:10 and ends at around 52:56--which means it's more than three and half minutes long, about the same length as the entire "Gypsy Heart" song.
Jay always testifies when he sings, Scott is a fantasticly melodic tribute to everything great in guitar (ever), Mike is the best drummer in rock today, and while I like the new bass player a lot, holy moley did this guy tear it up on bass! His name is Robin Everhart.
Hong faux must have shit themselves when they saw they had to follow this level of raw power. I just checked out the Hong Faux performance from the same night and they didn't have even a tenth of the soul and heart these guys had.
Actually, bassist is Dave Beste, Robin played the first few albums, Beste took over in 2013. Everything else you stated was correct-especially the testify part!

probably one of the best live bands that I have seen, and I started with AC/DC in 1978 so have plenty to judge against. But don't tell everybody about them, it's great to see them up close in a small venue.
Nah these guys deserve way more exposure, we won’t have anymore big rock bands anymore if they stay with smaller audiences
I was supposed to have seen these guys in Birmingham last month but the show was canceled due to Covid-19, but I would gladly have contracted coronavirus to see them live.

For real, they just played a rock club here in Nashville when they should be headlining the hockey arena.
They do play huge festivals if you just searh them, but I got your point
It’s a shame, but we get to reap the rewards...seeing them play in small and intimate venues is purely magical. As long as they keep that passion going, I’m good with that.
They just signed a record deal to Atlantic so... soon hopfully

I saw them live and you're right. I've never seen anthing like it. The supporting band sooo much better than the Sons. Jay is the most arrogant vocalist there's ever been. Forget about greeting the public, forget about any contact with the audience whatsoever. Plus he's dull. Prolonged solos, so predictable it their form, ugh. Left halfway through

Love the Sons and their new stuff, but this version of the band with its early raw in your face rock n roll approach was unbelievable. Thankfully I had the chance to see them several times around that period.
These guys are awesome, and from the ghetto by the sea, Long Beach California. I used to live there.
Anyone just discovering this criminally neglected band should search out their Bataclan concert from this year (2019). Epic. That said, their original bass player here was funk-ee!

I know Dave was the better fit for the Sons in the long run, but I really miss Robin's backup vocals and that nasty, bass tone that he had just locked in. So much fun to listen to.
