I'm glad I'm not alone in using the clown colors method lol somehow you're the only other artist I've seen who colors this way, I thought I was a freak
oh my god this is actually so helpful 😭 never really thought about doing any sort of preparing before drawing a ref sheet even if it’s for my own characters, thanks a lot for the helpful advice!!
Thank you so much! I put a lot of effort on my videos and I think I'm finally finding a style that's interesting to watch and really fun to create. It makes me really happy to know you liked it 😊
@@theinkcompass i really love it! i want to start a yt channel too soon, but this production value!!! wow! i really like your style and ill try to keep following you!
I've wanted to make some reference sheets for a long time, but I don't really know how to make a good one. This video is really helpful for people who love create original characters!🤩
omggg this is so helpful??? i've been trying to figure out how i wanna do a ref sheet for my characters in preperation for art fight for like a week now !
WOAHHHH so good!! With my ref sheets I usually add a color pallet somewhere 🤔 this is mainly be used for fan artists orrrr if the commissioner wants to commission others, then that way the next commissioner will have the local colors. It just makes it so much easier in those senarios.
I'm glad you liked it! I really should start to add the color palettes on my ref sheets, it sound like something really useful to have! Thank you for the tip^^
you are incredibly underrated! I just liked, subscribed, and I'm commenting to hope that it helps your video and channel get recommended to more people!
Thank you for the helpful video! I don’t know why I never thought to gather some of my past drawings of my character when making a reference for them. I just drew them as I remember which is what I always do but of course it always turns out a bit differently each time. And then I was dissatisfied with the faces because it didn’t look quite right. Still I didn’t think to do this! So silly in hindsight! Appreciate the advice and the ref sheet in the video turned out beautifully ❤
I don't really know what to comment, but I just want to comment something. I love how much effort you put these videos. I found you just now but now I feel like to watch some more >:]
This video turned out amazing!! 🥺 It's been awesome getting to work with you on my silly lil tiefling ❤ I'm so, so excited to see the model come to life as well!
Hello there! I'm Zae. Currently hoping to create proper ref sheets for characters of my first animatic. I love using notion! But I do not see the notion link of where I can be able to model your same template you mentioned?
@@theinkcompass Hello! Apologies for a late reply. I had gotten your email with links to Artist dashboard and Art commissions templates!! Thank you so much! But the brushes GoogleDrive seems to be missing or link not working? Hoping you can check on this!!
@@xyzdrawz I am a huge potato. Thank you for letting me know the drive link is not working. It should be fixed now and I'll try to find a way to send the new link to you! Also I hope you like the newsletter ^^
Hey! I usually use a canvas 3300x2550 pixels with 300 dpi but it varies quite a bit. If there are more details and stuff I'll just make it bigger, but that's the base I use ^^
Won't the shading and gradients make it harder to get the right colors? At least put all the flat colors in a section off to the side. A reference sheet should prioritize accuracy and readability over aesthetics in my opinion.
@@albtraumeryoctogram3594 That make sense! I really should have included it on the reveal or when I was talking about the backgrounds. I'll take note of that for my next videos, thank you for the feedback 😊
@@theinkcompass No problem. I hope I didn't come off as too mean. I just don't want young artists to develop bad habits from tutorials. I know it's all too easy as it's happened to me as well. Love your art by the way. Looking forward to more!

Yes! That's why I also made a version with a 50% gray and another with just a paper texture as background too ^^
@@theinkcompass It would probably be best to show those versions in the video as well seeing as this is meant as a tutorial of sorts.

Yeah ref sheets are definitely not for everyone hahah They can be really boring as hell
cool art, but the spacing is bothering me a little bit for some reason...
