6:05 Never heard of an instance of Infrared Scorp being banned, but I can personally attest that as a Smoke main, there are 2 or 3 stages I pick intentionally for the sole purpose that you just CANNOT clearly see him half the time. Couple that w/ his F2,1 string and various Smokeport moves that were DESIGNED to be deceptive in nature, and I think it's pretty unfair for the opponent. ...and I love it. Lol
Personally, I find it interesting that Flamethrower -> Command Grab it's considered "broken" by NRS's standards. I'm for "unless it's completely broken, then it's alright." Like GM Sub-Zero teeters the line, Robo-cop's guaranteed combo falls short, and Raiden's inf was broken. Since you have to MB the flamethrower, it isn't that bad, but then again meter regens.. Also, I don't think infrared Scorpion was banned, it's probably an unspoken gentleman's rule to pretend he doesn't exist.
Because when it was banned there was no way to avoid the command grab afterwards. You were frame trapped out of jumping and since it's a mid it was impossible to avoid.

@@deadmanstoolbox because it's a guaranteed unbreakable 40% combo basically. It would be especially broken with cheval trap because that would make an unbreakable ~60% with no KB or FB. Which robocop can already hit unbreakable 50s but you need the throw KB or an FB.
I don't think infrared was ever officially banned from tournament, it was just sort of a gentleman's agreement from the players not to use it. Same deal with the sky temple level, which actually may have been banned but I wouldn't know as I didn't know a single competitive player who ever wanted to play on that map for any reason.
It's unfortunate kratos was never legal. His short stance and projectile parry would've made him a hard counter to kabal as he was immune to instant air gas blast. Regardless i don't think he'd be higher than high mid but the hard counter would've spiced things up
Scorpions back throw (as the last move) was banned in the beginning of mk11, and that is because it had a brutality the happened instantly therefore the throw was not able to be escaped and was op.
I'm surprised that Geras wasn't mentioned for MK11. Last I remember for tournament play, there were moves for Custom variation that were over the top, one of which featured a move that allowed you to resurrect after losing.

@@buttery_gooch6, when it comrs to custom variations, the TL;DR is that "Reawakened" and other resurrection moves like that can lead to functionally oppressive gameplay, such that it becomes near improbable to shut down the Geras player. As for Lost Time & Spare Time, it was found that timer manipulation is/"can be" too meta of a mechanic, such that it could lead to oppressive gameplay. A high level Geras player could chip you down, and then manipulate the timer such that it unfairly puts the oppressed player so far behind that they can't keep pace with that Geras player. Another thing to note with Geras specifically: Some moves are not allowed to be paired together. Most notably, Bed of Spikes and Sand Simulacrum specifically can't be paired together, due to their oppressive space-control nature while in neutral.
Imagine you start playing a fighting game cause you see a character in there from another game you know and you end up learning them to a point where you feel confident to go to a tournament only to be told “Sorry that character is banned.”
I'm surprised that scorpion from injustice wasnt on this list considering his teleport made it extremely OP because he could move so fast he could teleport almost out of everything and he could just keep chipping away at the opponents health bar
Never knew that scorpion was top tier, I played with him because he had the same moveset as mk9 with a few slight changes, I beat a lot of the roaster easily, but holy cow, he is cheap in this game.
@@hetoverseo3887 He was nerfed toward the end of injustice and now is considered one of the worse characters in the game. They took his damage, slowed down teleport, and made it negative on block IIRC.
There was a frame I found as bane from the og injustice against my brother when your amping him with venom that increased his dash, dash cancel. Which made it really, really easy to get close and grapple the enemy, and put them into a regular meter burn back breaker, and not his special back breaker that did more damage than the special.

Even though one my two favorite comic book characters of all time was a DLC (the other is a Marvel character) in the first game and didn’t return for part 2 I still think Injustice 2 was a great game and IMO better than the first.

Also on mkx their was a glitch with kung lao that allowed him to get meter very fast I can’t remember exactly how it worked it either had somthing to do with his grab or on of his hat attacks
Awesome video! Have you ever done a video about how busted some of the MK9 characters could be? Some that come my mind are Skarlet, Cyrax, Smoke and Ermac.
I never knew people needed to see the position of a character to defend against them, no matter what character other players have used on me the players usually follow the same play styles and patterns.
It's because most of the competitive players create new playstyles and ways of setting combos instead of following the meta like on-line players in their majority. Seeing How the character attacks in his variation is how they react against their combos, that skin is pretty difficult to distinguish his features like variations.
Easy infinite combos should always be banned or never implemented in the first place. Defensive options would be a very good tool against that, like Push back (which was seen in CAPCOM MARVEL "super fighters") such that you could push an opponent off of you. Problem was that you couldn't really do much besides push them back. But if you could get some space, you can counter, parry or carry, depending on the game, then you have the ability to punish spammers. And if they do not fall for it? You still have the ability to get out of there, roll clear jump or even simply fight back. A quick jab acts as an easy counter and can be given priority since it is a coming off the push back. This alone, even if they block back can create opportunities to retaliate. Honestly, games with more robust defensive options, like Soul Caliber and Tekken, tended to have better matches over all. But more needs to be done to blunt Spammers and rush down characters, two of the most abused types of characters in fighting game, in my experience. It is to the point that some games are almost entirely rush-down and spamming characters, like "DragonBall Fighter Z". Balancing the character according to what they are, and NOT what you want them to be, would also help enormously. A giant monster character should probably be throw proof to anyone but another huge character. Earthquake Shuranui for Samurai Showdown comes to mind. Big heavy character should be able to overpower smaller lighter ones, guard crushing easily, forcing the smaller characters make use of their speed and agility, but have to suffer with having "mosquito bites" for attacks. A character who specializes on kicks typically is not going to have strong punches. Hit boxes really should match the animation pose or frame. "I hit you in the face but it wasn't counted at all!" Also endurance and dizzies... There is just so much, just during initial development that can stop characters from having to be banned. Some things can not be helped like an unforeseen advancement in controller design, but questionable to downright shotty character design, animation, detection and so on really does NOT help.
Thats why killer instinct created combo breakers they know how annoying it is just sitting there watching your character get whooped without being able to do anything
@@rockk9753 I tend to agree. But in KI3 the Combo Breaker and Counter Breaker pretty much neutralizes the notion CBs were meant to give player a fight back option. When CBs simply stopped the attack, broke things up, and gave the player a chance to fight back, was when CBs worked best. In KI3 the CB, if not countered leads straight to combo'ing back. If Countered, the attacker gets to keep attacking and now the other player can not try to CB again. Because of this, I generally would rather have other options, MK11 did introduce the idea of "falling away" or out of a combo. It was a meter burn, like Combo Breakers should be. And it seemed pretty good. Combine this with a "safe fall" or "roll clear", especially if the option to Pursue or jump on an opponent is there (which was really bad in Tekken), the ability to fight back is much improved. Fighting games stop being about button mashing and more like real fighting where you have more options than to hit or be hit.

But when i watch the video it's actually much easier to see what infrared Scorpion does than what his green outfit camouflaged opponent does..
idk if this was banned or anything but in injustice 2 with swamp you can just crouch and do a certain move over and over again and the cant hit you or anything and it is really tough to block once you get caught in it

I can understand the Consule Exclusive Characters being banned. However, banning a character because their move set is "unfair" is ridiculous. Why punish a player because they learned how to use a character like an expert? Isn't that what the tournament is about? Finding the best of the best?

I'm surprised that scorpion from injustice wasnt on this list considering his teleport made it extremely OP because he could move so fast he could teleport almost out of everything and he could just keep chipping away at the opponents health bar
Never knew that scorpion was top tier, I played with him because he had the same moveset as mk9 with a few slight changes, I beat a lot of the roaster easily, but holy cow, he is cheap in this game.
@@hetoverseo3887 He was nerfed toward the end of injustice and now is considered one of the worse characters in the game. They took his damage, slowed down teleport, and made it negative on block IIRC.

There was a frame I found as bane from the og injustice against my brother when your amping him with venom that increased his dash, dash cancel. Which made it really, really easy to get close and grapple the enemy, and put them into a regular meter burn back breaker, and not his special back breaker that did more damage than the special.

When you mentioned scorpion I honestly thought it was gonna be about his teleport pre patch because the teleport spam kick was so broken and annoying that you could do over and over again before they nerfed him lol

Even though one my two favorite comic book characters of all time was a DLC (the other is a Marvel character) in the first game and didn’t return for part 2 I still think Injustice 2 was a great game and IMO better than the first.
That scorpion skin hurts my eyes to look at.

The super armor move that disables jump into the dash and grab combos is stupid broken.
Also on mkx their was a glitch with kung lao that allowed him to get meter very fast I can’t remember exactly how it worked it either had somthing to do with his grab or on of his hat attacks

I never knew people needed to see the position of a character to defend against them, no matter what character other players have used on me the players usually follow the same play styles and patterns.
It's because most of the competitive players create new playstyles and ways of setting combos instead of following the meta like on-line players in their majority. Seeing How the character attacks in his variation is how they react against their combos, that skin is pretty difficult to distinguish his features like variations.

Easy infinite combos should always be banned or never implemented in the first place. Defensive options would be a very good tool against that, like Push back (which was seen in CAPCOM MARVEL "super fighters") such that you could push an opponent off of you. Problem was that you couldn't really do much besides push them back. But if you could get some space, you can counter, parry or carry, depending on the game, then you have the ability to punish spammers. And if they do not fall for it? You still have the ability to get out of there, roll clear jump or even simply fight back. A quick jab acts as an easy counter and can be given priority since it is a coming off the push back. This alone, even if they block back can create opportunities to retaliate.
Honestly, games with more robust defensive options, like Soul Caliber and Tekken, tended to have better matches over all. But more needs to be done to blunt Spammers and rush down characters, two of the most abused types of characters in fighting game, in my experience. It is to the point that some games are almost entirely rush-down and spamming characters, like "DragonBall Fighter Z".
Balancing the character according to what they are, and NOT what you want them to be, would also help enormously. A giant monster character should probably be throw proof to anyone but another huge character. Earthquake Shuranui for Samurai Showdown comes to mind. Big heavy character should be able to overpower smaller lighter ones, guard crushing easily, forcing the smaller characters make use of their speed and agility, but have to suffer with having "mosquito bites" for attacks. A character who specializes on kicks typically is not going to have strong punches. Hit boxes really should match the animation pose or frame. "I hit you in the face but it wasn't counted at all!"
Also endurance and dizzies...
There is just so much, just during initial development that can stop characters from having to be banned. Some things can not be helped like an unforeseen advancement in controller design, but questionable to downright shotty character design, animation, detection and so on really does NOT help.
Thats why killer instinct created combo breakers they know how annoying it is just sitting there watching your character get whooped without being able to do anything

I tend to agree. But in KI3 the Combo Breaker and Counter Breaker pretty much neutralizes the notion CBs were meant to give player a fight back option.
When CBs simply stopped the attack, broke things up, and gave the player a chance to fight back, was when CBs worked best. In KI3 the CB, if not countered leads straight to combo'ing back. If Countered, the attacker gets to keep attacking and now the other player can not try to CB again.
Because of this, I generally would rather have other options, MK11 did introduce the idea of "falling away" or out of a combo. It was a meter burn, like Combo Breakers should be. And it seemed pretty good. Combine this with a "safe fall" or "roll clear", especially if the option to Pursue or jump on an opponent is there (which was really bad in Tekken), the ability to fight back is much improved.
Fighting games stop being about button mashing and more like real fighting where you have more options than to hit or be hit.

I always were a PlayStation Boy, so I actually played with OG Kratos (not in competitive level, just at home with some friends) and I had fun playing as him, I wish Santa Monica studio gives permission to NRS to make beard Kratos a DLC for every platform in the next MK

That's funny to me, you're talking about an infrared scorpion skin that you think should be banned from competitive play because it's so hard to see what limb does what.
But when i watch the video it's actually much easier to see what infrared Scorpion does than what his green outfit camouflaged opponent does..
idk if this was banned or anything but in injustice 2 with swamp you can just crouch and do a certain move over and over again and the cant hit you or anything and it is really tough to block once you get caught in it

I can understand the Consule Exclusive Characters being banned. However, banning a character because their move set is "unfair" is ridiculous. Why punish a player because they learned how to use a character like an expert? Isn't that what the tournament is about? Finding the best of the best?

I love to think that they knew what they were doing to their game when they added they. At the end of the day its a video game that ment to be fun. Kinda like how smash ultimate has combos and everything the smash kids wanted with tech (kinda anyways). Casuals well make the game sell for a reason or another
