This is something that is very mind-boggling when it comes to stepparents for people who raise someone else’s kids. It doesn’t matter what you do, how you do it, nor how well you do it. The only thing the child sees is their parent. For good or bad, they have a bond to their biological parent. And that parent is the one that they want in their lives. This is why I keep telling people, do not get involved with a single parent. All of your time, money, and energy will be wasted on a child who will not appreciate you.
That is totally not true in many cases. My friend, who I have known for fifty years, married a man who had three kids and a mother much like Jessica. The mother WAS a mother for the first five years, then she just skipped out. Friend has raised them and been grandma to their kids over the years and there has never been any question who their "real" mother is, even though they spent time with their biomom eah summer.

Amongst this whole made up story no where does it state what job the mom or stepmom have, but if the mom is stating she would take her to an event costing 5K a person either she has money or things are truly unbelievable here.
