Nice work cleaning it up. Paint is always a tough thing to remove and it takes the patience you provided. Thanks for taking us through, it I'm sure you brother would approve of the end result. Take care, Tom.👍
Thanks Knife Delights for all your time cleaning this knife that I found in an Antique Store. Things that I like in my Boy Scout collection are well used items that I know a boy had a great experience using it in his Scouting career and then years after. Yes, it will sit in my collection and not used so it is cleaned to my expectations.
Wow! That one required some work Tom!!! Great video! I love the final result and appreciate learning about restoration tips from your videos as always! Thank you my friend!
I'm really enjoying this knife restoration series you've been doing lately; there's something oddly satisfying about watching you work and the care you put into it. You have way more patients than I do, after about 10 minutes of scrapping, I would've said screw it and taken it to the belt sander...lol
There was quite some work to be done cleaning. The end result is satisfying and it can be stored now knowing it's clean. A lot of dirt came of the blades, but you still kept some nice patina. Thank you for sharing Tom.
Tom I use an MX stick on the blades on my old knives which seems to take the rust off and leave some of the patina I like to use Case Paste but I try to just stick to hand work and avoid power tools The only power I use is the buffing wheel on the bench grinder for hafting the bolsters and back springs
That's a great suggestion for when you really want to leave the patina. I will have to give it a go sometime. I like using the dremel because it helps get the rust out of deep pitting. Thanks for watching, my friend!
A lot of work, paint is hard to get off and sometimes paint strippers can cause damage to materials and are nasty to use, better to take some time doing it, thanks for the video!
Well, honestly, it was hard to be patient on this one! But I became determined to try and take my time. I believe it turned out quite well. Thanks for watching, Tom.
Nice Job Tom…… I’m not sure if I mentioned it but I also enjoy cleaning my knives it gives you a sense of accomplishment it really does feel good!!!!! Thanks Tom for showing another great referb….. stay well 😊

You're very welcome, big brother! Thanks for loaning your collection and allowing me to share it with others!
With all the mileage on that knife I'd bet it has some great stories. The tenacity of the paint was impressive too.
If they could talk! Thanks for watching my friend!

You are very welcome, Terrill. It's all a learning process, and each time I do one I learn something new. I appreciate your support, my friend.
Nice job, Tom. Thanks for the share. Just don't forget to throw a few drops of mineral oil into the joints and work them twice a year.
Thanks, Byron! I have started using the mineral oil as part of my maintenance routine. It really works wonders. I appreciate you stopping by.
You can use paint stripper and a Q-Tip to remove paint from metal without scratching the metal. 🙂
I was concerned with using any chemicals on the covers, but I never thought of dabbing the paint on the blades. Thanks for the tip, my friend!
I had the exact same paint on mine. I just put in in a bowl of hot water and Dawn dish soap and it scrubbed right off. Try that.
I will give it a go. Thanks for the tip and for watching!
