Rosslynlee Hospital was founded in 1874 under its original name of Midlothian and Peebles Asylum (1874 - 1948) then changed its name to Rosslynlee Mental Hospital (1948-60). Set in 64 acres of land, it was a psychiatric hospital until late 2010 and eventually closed early 2011 as it was deemed surplus to requirements due to the construction of the New Midlothian Community Hospital at Mayshade, Eskbank which was completed in September 2010.
Music is by Lowercase Noises - Song For No One
Recored with a Canon 600d / Panasonic SD60.
Edited with Adobe Premiere CS5.
Colour Graded with Magic Bullet Looks.
Absolutely beautiful!! It's amazing the places that just get left to rot away!
Love this kind of places, always makes me think a lot; the history of the abandoned place, the memory of people walking through it, the money went into building it and then left abandoned, the year after year rain and wind this building have to endure.
So many memories easily discarded.
This is a heartbreaking, incredibly sad and brilliant piece of work!
its soo sad that such beautiful architecture is abandoned.
Great video and i love the song that goes with it
Wow, I never knew. Great video very nostalgic the human legacy we overlook as we move forward into the great oblivion of life.
Yeah the signs of it being vacant are really taking it's toll on the place, I hope someone does buy it and re-use it. It would be a shame to let it rot. Thanks for the comment :)
My mum was in this hospital 1963 died 1972 overdose to central nervous system.I just turned 13 yrs old when she died 10 days before my 13th birthday.youst to visit her every weekend when allowed brings bk memories.she wasn’t allowed out of hospital so we had to visit ❤
That’s so sad to read about your precious memory of visiting your mum and her death before your 13th birthday. I hope life experiences were better for you since you are now like me in your sixties. The stigma of mental health back then was so much different than now. Thankyou for sharing your memory. May God bless you and give you strength. 🙏🏻👍
Very well filmed, you can feel the place, just as if people have just walked out of there. Nice video. :-)
@izzy1201 Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it, yeah when I found the puppy I really did feel sad as well as it was no doubt a toy that someone loved but it has now been left behind.
I love this film. Haunting and beautiful. I sang to the residents here when I was a Girl Guide in the early 80s...was a very traumatic thing to have done! My great grandmother was a patient here. As a kid in a Roslin, we used to hear sirens and run home screaming that someone had 'escaped' from Rosslynlee. Invokes so many memories in me. Great work guys!
My dad lived in roslin and he went to sing there at the boys scouts thing
Beautiful! Abandoned hospitals are my favorite locations, especially those that were closed recently. Great job, again!
Thanks Badge, it's great to hear from people who stayed near by to help build up a picture of the place. :)
Such beauty...I love looking at abandoned places...thank you so much for posting this...this is my favorite video of yours...
Thanks, Rosslynlee was an amazing visit :)
the way you film and have put this together is beautiful
This vid made my eyes tear up a bit...it's wonderful the way you've weaved the vid and music together with some special effects (sound-wise)....life is fleeting and short, make the most of it. This is what I get from watching this. Thank you!
@wachingdocs Thanks, yeah Scotland has some amazing places just left which really should be renovated.
I lived just down the road my mother worked there for sixteen yrs it was not a scary place ever most of the people I ever met were friendly some seemed a bit lost but never ever was I scared of the place from 1975 till 1987 .
Brilliant as always Mate! Sad,Love the Music,Nice Poem. Thank You!
I like your videos, Mark. It´s allways a kind of meditation for me to watch them. And btw it was my first contact with the music of Lowercase Noises, so i´ve to thank for a discovery.
nice and awsome, great job keep up the spirit I clicked the like button 100 times not sure how many worked.
This is put together very well! Very touching and really good camera work!
what a touching video!!! i must say That I love all of your abandoned HD QUALITY videos and they look so perfect on my iPhone 4s's screen... keep up filming HD!!! {I LOVED THE LONESOME ORGAN AT THE BEGGINING THE PIANO KEYBOARD]
Oh my.....This video was just....Just Damn Amazing, The Camera work is phenomenal! Great Work Mate!
Excellent. And the quality of the vid is phenomenal! :)
these are some really great shots, done very nicely! the camera angles are really great and i really enjoyed this videoo. it was very touching and the part that touched me the most was when the puppy toy was shown :((((( this is awesomee keep up the good work!!!
Your videos are amazingly sad but so really good, make me feel I could cry for places iv'e never been to very well done :)
For me these places really come alive again when you see those small things like names on a whiteboard, or pictures on the wall. Just amazing to think this was a place where people worked and the sick were treated. I also think the smell in these old places must be quite something too. I imagine the lingering smell of antiseptic lotion was still in the air in this place - Great video, thanks for sharing!
I can say the smell has left in 2018, now just dampness and dust, everything is rotten.
Thats really good, nice going and the camera effects are great!
The awesome music made the perfect mode nice choice and awesome vid
Can almost feel the cold wind upon my face as I walk through these quiet empty places.
Very nice vid. Soothing music and gives me an awkward feeling. Subscribed!
beautiful images and music once again....I shall check out Lowercase Noises......thank you
Woww, That is pretty sweet I love the scenery and everything!!!! You are so amazing haha I wish i had filming skills like that. Really cool!!!!
This video made me cry, this video is AWESOME! I love your video's,I sub.:)
Such a great filming location
there were some really good shots in this! really cool to watch
Wish I could go there. Beautiful video, adorable place!
This video was epic! The editing was pretty good.. what editor did you use?
@tambourinos Yeah I think there is still one house that isn't abandoned but the majority around it are. Thanks for sharing the memories Tam, do you have any stories you remember of it?
You have some nice ediciting skill certainly as well as some nice video recording skills. Nice one.
Your video ist verry Good. I would like to see more of some great videos like this. Cya and waiting 4 vid ;)
@AbandonedScotland Just went to your website and facebook page. Very good video and music makes me keen on returning to Glasgow again...
We didn't at the time, I wouldn't advise going in there now though. Security has been upped since we visited, it would be great if we could arrange a permission visit back there though.
Is there anywhere else in the area you would recommend visiting?
Impressive video! (good choice of music too)
And beautifull, those leaves moving in the wind ... just a glimp of a shadow!
( at 2:32 min - 2:44 min)
Enjoyed this, thanks.
@AbandonedScotland Some vague ones - I was young. For example, patients were mentally ill, so they'd often walk-off without people knowing and my mates mum would often come home say "someone got out today; had an axe or stick of some sort so best not play out late" - could have been trying to scare us, but still.
Remember sledging down a hill of snow outside one of the ward windows into a grassy courtyard.
It is said in Scotland there exists a better mandate for the preservation of buildings...
These films truly break my heart. People's lives... Times spent...
Wow that sounds crazy, were you by yourself there?
Very nice video, thank you for sharing it.
wow, this video is extrem ely interesting! i enjoyes it, keep up the good work
this video is really great i love how you put togeather a slid show...in other words this video spoke to me . it made me wounder "I feel bad for the people that were there". also the music makes the video that much better :) . well worth 4 minutes
Thank you so much!
the sad music is pretty convincing but it becomes good after a while nice video keep it up.
its often intersting seeing what people just leave behind. eerie scenary too
@TNGEO Thanks I'm glad you liked it, I got in touch with Andy Othling a.k.a Lowercase Noises and he gave me permission to use it. Male sure and check him out and get in touch with him if you would like to use his work he is incredible.
nice pictures and editing.
Did you use the eos 600d just for the photos?
Yeah it was an amazing place to visit.
dude real real nice film work our you using a track dolly real smooth shots there and very very clean picture to
this music is so depressing i nearly cried!
Yeah I try and use music that matches the mood I feel in the places. I always feel quite sad walking around abandoned places and seeing glimpses of it's previous use.
@GGGMOOO Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@fraggleg81 That's amazing fraggleg81, have you got any memories from your time there?
How long is the Hospital abandoned?
Love your work.
woooah, this is so cool! Haha i wish i lived/went to the UK :/ it seems so pretty. Thanks for the inspiration (:
I love watching these videos =)
very nice video you are very good to make video like that!!
Excellent again man!
so beautiful
Haunting, serene, mysterious, lovely. I particularly liked the shot of the leaf shadows at 2:40.
Excellent.
Whence came the music? I generally use Jamendo for my films. -G
this was a pretty good video you made. I might have to check out some other ones
heartbreaking poem at the end very strong and tuethfull word poor people
Thats just up the road from me. A place of peace and sanctuary for some and a hopeless reality for others. Its cold now.
What an amazing place i really liked the video scenaray... where in the world is this!?
Good effort. Great upload.
Thanks for saying so
wondeful, many thanks x
Wow, it looks beautiful,
It's indeed a shame to see it so sad... :(
@helloman2332 Thanks I really do appreciate the comment, it's amazing to go to a place like this and see it left with so many things.
This is beautiful 🖤
@LIVEPCGAMER Unfortunately I think taking items may still be an offence if the grounds are still owned by the NHS, it was abandoned because they built a newer hospital that combined this and another hospital which resulted in Rosslynlee closing unfortunately.
3:42 that is beautiful the chipped painted looks amazing
@MrDaethat Thanks glad you enjoyed it
@maliyahmarson Thanks I appreciate it, the music is by Lowercase Noises you should check him out! The reason we visited is because it was only closed a year ago and we really wanted to see it before it inevitably is stripped and destroyed.
@MsRageGaming Thanks I appreciate you saying so, the music is by Lowercase Noises you should check him out.
Question, are the pans done manually or post production? This would be a most excellent method in my video documentaries.
@toogawnjawnThanks I hope you had a good christmas and a good new year to come :)
@TheRandomNinja1 Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Hauntingly awesome.
@DoctorICT Thanks, yeah you can really see alot more of the detail on watching it in HD,
@Wallabytrack Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah I really liked the poem that was left there.
Great video loved it
I used to play here when I was younger (1990s). Friend stayed at the little housing scheme just at the entrance. Think all those houses are empty now too.
I wouldn't have went it. Bet it's hautned. Friends mum (ex-worker there) used to come home with tales of patients that were too much. Great video!
Nice, What camera do you use? Sorry, a Canon 600d / Panasonic SD60
@MrNishi Yeah I'd love to if they were willing, do you know of where would be best to contact?
Thanks :)
@xxcxci Thanks for saying so, the music is by Lowercase Noises a really talented musician you should check him out.
Cool video, so many hospitals are closing now, its terrible
@xXPrideStudiosXx Thanks I'm glad you like it :)
@SadBossKey Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
@ROFLFOSHO I use a 600d which is basically the same spec as the 550, I use the 18-55mm kit lens as well as the nifty fifty lens. It sounds like you don't have a fast enough memory card for the camera, if you buy a class 10 SD card for it and you won't have the automatic stopping. :)
Amazing film work, very spooky place though!
