I never knew the history of "Cloudbusting". That really is an interesting subject to put in a song. Four years ago my 18 year old nephew was spending the summer with us. I had been listening a lot to Kate Bush's greatest hits cd and my nephew asked about it. The song he was most intrigued by was "Army Dreamers". It made me feel so good to have helped someone discover Kate Bush and hopefully he sees me as a cool aunt!
Well, if your nephew doesn't see you as a cool aunt, at least I do! Turning young people on to great music with thoughtful lyrics is a gift to us all; I really think it makes them better people. As for Army Dreamers, what a fantastic song--and it speaks well of your nephew that such a tender song resonated with him. That whole Never For Ever album is a favorite of mine; but at this point I most Kate albums are my "favorite Kate" albums.
LOL, that Puddle of Mud joke.... God yea that is exactly how I feel too. I feel sad that my (our) little secret is out, but I'm happy that Kate is finally getting the recognition she deserves. Hounds is her magnum opus. The whole damn thing is transcendent and I am still in love with it as I was in the mid-80s. And for as much as I love Running Up The Hill, I am an absolute sucker for the Ninth Wave. Specifically Waking the Witch, Under Ice, and Jig of Life.
You're so right; the album hasn't lost a thing all these years later--and it might be even more impressive now, given how it's held up. I'm also totally not surprised that you are drawn to the more disturbing and manic moments on this album. You're always on brand, brother!
Totally hilarious way to start this, so good. Obviously I’m happy Kate is getting so much attention here, but it is a little irritating since she’s been a deity in the UK for 40 years.
Thanks, Graham! Yes, totally. The Internet Age has a tendency to act as if the moment an artist is trending on Twitter is the moment of that artist's birth. And to the rest of us who grew up with that artist, it can be, to say the least, annoying. At least we've already banked so many more decades enjoying Kate than these newbie Kate fans.

Another excellent commentary, thank you. BTW, great shout on TFF. Cheers, Dave.
Thanks a lot, Dave! Much appreciated!
it's going to take at least a dozen listens for me to not hear "suaver places" now.
Haha! You have my sincerest apologies!
