      This was an excellent trick and he's a likable guy. But, the "Spanish mentalist" shtick is annoying after about the 10th time.
      I dd find it odd that he made a point of picking up the Orange card and therefore highlighting that there were only 5 colors to choose from.

    I loved Javier's performance, it was fun and well crafted and the whole "Ole!" thing was clearly making the audience love him. I don't care how he did it. I just love the fact that he DID it. Hi Jason, I'm living with GAD for about 20 years now. I also was a totally normal, functional guy. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a panic attack happened. But, I didn't seek help, instead I was so scared of it, that I started to avoid everything that I thought would trigger a panic attack. Which of course made things worse. It was only when I didn't leave my apartment anymore, that I finally looked for help. The "do what caused your attack" approach is called "confrontanional therapy" and is very successful in lighter stages of anxiety disorders. Like the fear of spiders as the most famous example. Your body and brain slowly learn that nothing really happens and the alarm signal (the panic attack) is not needed. In the end you overcome your fears. With a heavier case like mine it fails, however. I have a few tricks at hand (thanks to my therapist) to calm myself down, when the alarm bell starts to ring, but I'll never get rid of it. I sometimes think of me as being weaker than guys like Javier. I know that it isn't true, but it feels like it. They are brave, where I just breakdown.

    Regarding the anxiety, the same sort of thing happened to Michael Ball. He started off playing Marius in "Les Miserables" in London and ended up having lots of anxiety attacks which resulted in him leaving the show. Later on, he played Raoul in "The Phantom of the Opera" in London after Michael Crawford and Steve Barton went to the Broadway version, and he played Marius in the 10th Anniversary Concert for Les Mis.

    She wanted to reach to something she is not, so she needed to change her whole self to make the man love her... But deep inside she still had a part that wanted to stay true to her inner self and hence she chased the mouse. One should not change into something one is not, just for another ones oppinion.

    Panic attack. It is not a joke. Once I had it from weed "skunk". From a mg. I was to die. Ambulance took me to hospital. I had to wait in the emergency room, to be the last one to be called. The door was open to the street. My bus stopped in every 15 minutes. I felt scared to death from the idea of getting on the bus. After 3-4 hours it was over. ..... 5:31 you said you thought him saying this act is a part of therapy and you thought it was a joke, that made me laugh out loud. No, I honestly think he was being serious. Panic attacks SUCK! I've had a few and been thinking about how to deal with anxiety/fear/panic/depression and wondering if inducing fear would help me get used to it. Nothing traumatic of course, only things that I know are safe and I can work on identifying it as merely a feeling.

    • @notthere83
      @notthere83 4 роки тому +2

      I think he was neither joking, nor serious. It was just an exaggerated statement about his progress (exaggerated either because he's actually long been cured or because he knows that this won't be the end of his struggle) for his intro.

    Electronics are often placed in those types of chairs. Similar chairs are used by mentalists to give electrical stimulation shocks to do other types of tricks. If you noticed, the instruction was to pick up 5 different color cards. There are only 5 different colors; thus all the colors were picked up. The back of each chair has a loop antenna for reading RFID chips, which is connected to a micro-controller circuit. The massive surface area of the back of the chair allows a loop antenna of sufficient size to read RFID chips at considerable distances (up to a couple of feet). Each colored paper has a thin metal foil antenna, which is electrically connected to a electronic chip (about 1 mm square) which contains information to the identity of the color. The instruction was to hold the paper up in the vertical position. The reason for this is to make the loop antenna in the seat back parallel to the loop antenna in the piece of paper, which allow maximum radio signal reception. Loop antennas are directional, which allow signals to be maximally received in specific orientations (ex. animals radio collars locators). The microcontrollers (for example an Arduino board) in each chair send the identity of each paper by blue tooth to the computer behind the picture. The picture has a subtle clues, manipulated by the micro-controller, which tells the mentalist which person is holding which color. As you can tell, he spends several seconds looking at the picture to interpret the subtle information in the picture. Sorry for the technical explanation, but this is a very technical trick. I have done similar things with RFID readers using Arduino circuit boards.

    • @cdiogoc
      @cdiogoc 4 роки тому

      But how come the picture shows him the type of cards they're holding? Are those some kind of LED device or something like this?

    • @charlesfrancavilla6215
      @charlesfrancavilla6215 4 роки тому +2

      @@cdiogoc That is a good question! Since there was a cover over the picture during the selection of cards, that tells me that the picture made changes during that time. In other words, the images in the picture made changes to their positions. The images and the positions mean something! For example, the pointy-top roof building could represent he blue card and the round-roof building could represent the pink card. If the pointy-top roof was all the way on the left side, that could mean that the person in the left-most seat is holding the blue card. This idea is very similar to a deck of marked cards you can buy for about $10 on Amazon. An open circle in a certain spot on the back of the card represents the suit, while another represents the rank. With just a little bit of practice, anyone can learn what a card is by simply looking at the design pattern on the card. I am very fast at it, but if I was very nervous because I sensed someone knew what I was doing, it would take extra effort and slow me down.
      Knowing the above, go watch the video a second time. You can notice that he spends a lot of effort viewing the picture, and you can truly sense that he is making decisions while looking at the picture. To me, it seems overly so; thus, he must have been nervous (clearly understandable) and thinking that Penn & Teller had picked up what he was doing. He was trying very hard not to misinterpret the information in the picture. I do think he did a great job at it! Kudos to him!

    • @cdiogoc
      @cdiogoc 4 роки тому

      @@charlesfrancavilla6215 Interesting! The idea of marked card makes sense and - yes - he paid attention a while on the board. I was trying to search if this trick was done by him on another video to see different board positions but couldn't find any. Thanks anyway it helped a lot ^^

I can attest to anxiety attacks taking over sometimes and hitting a wall. It's not fun. I now pick to calm myself down. Competent. Not at all an expert yet. With practice however. I just heard someone explain that if you tap into your childhood memories and recollect the feeling of not being able to stop reading that favorite book, or stop watching your favorite TV show or movie, that somewhere in that exact memory, in that very book or shoe/movie is an extremely meaningful aspect of life that you’re missing. This Easter egg that lies in whatever is was that captured your undivided attention as a child can very likely hold an answer to life that you’re desperately searching, or not searching for, that will help you determine exactly what it is you want to do with your life and what everything means to you in life. For me, it was either the book “Outsider’s” or maybe “Dead Poet’s Society.” Regardless of what mine is, I haven’t found from my memories exactly what it is that this person was suggesting that I find, while concluding their discussion. I’ll keep looking though. I recommend others try it as well and see if it works for you.
    Anyway, great video JP! As always, keep up the amazing work!!

      @@strechsanchez As a panic attack owner, i will tell you that its not only in your head. You are hyperventilating, you have heart beat going through the roof, your different parts of the body start shaking etc. It really feels like ur dying and having a stroke or w/e. Feels like your going to collapse or have seizure any moment.

    Perhaps RFID tags on each colored card and someone behind scene reading the tags with a long range sensor and communicating the color to Javier via some radio device.
    Regarding the banner that deploys behind the participants there can be several banners with different color combinations but remember that the order of the participants is chosen by the mentalist who already knows the colors that each person is holding so only the right banner is deployed

    Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are two completely different things, although many people use the terms interchangeably. I suffer from panic attacks. The main difference between panic attacks and anxiety attacks is that anxiety attacks are triggered from something external, where panic attacks are internally triggered. With panic attacks, the body releases adrenaline for no reasons at all. The spike in adrenaline causes an increase in your heart rate and blood pressure and a feeling like you are dying. You have the flight or fight reaction with nothing to point at as a trigger. It is human nature to want to determine an external cause for your panic attacks. For example, I had breakfast and than had a panic attack, so I became afraid to eat breakfast. The breakfast had nothing to do with it, but I was afraid none the less. It is not uncommon for people with panic attacks for have lots of phobias, and the phobias can lead to anxiety attacks. For this reason it is very important for the person suffering from panic attacks to not associate external triggers with their panic attacks. Panic attacks are bad enough without adding phobias and anxiety attacks to the list. I assume this is why the Doctors insisted that he get back in front of people.

    so i realy love this trick and his performance
    i had some thoughts, but im not sure im right...
    at 5:09 he randomizes the envelopes again. There is only one reason i can think of why this is done, to confuse us who has which colour. Now even the audience doesnt know the colourpositions anymore... so basicly it does not matter who has which colour. He just has to switch the colour to the one he wants during the reveal...
    But even watching it hundrets of times... i can‘t figgure out how he managed the switches...he never touches the envelopes again.... so i still have no idea... but i still think the second shuffle is important but i don‘t know how ... such a great performance

      It is a simple trick all based on technology. The 5 coloured pieces of paper ( Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green and Red )
      all contain a small radio chipp ( RFID chip 1 mm 2 ). This information is read out , and then send to the lcd painting.
      5 different silhouettes, they represent the colours.

    People say RFID. I think more likely is a UV laser. That's why they were instructed to hold up the envelopes. The envelopes only have to be a little bit transparent and either the face colour fluoresces or there is another fluorescent compound that flashes in the UV spectrum.

    I'm not into mentalism, i usually find mentalism boring, and i have no F*** idea how this was done. Unless, but i don't think this would be the case in this show, there was a stooge between the 5 selected people from the audience. Again, since i don't think this type of trick would be allowed on FU, i have no freaking idea. Great presentation, for an even grater trick. Well done!

    5:17 to a mentalist this is like saying that the classic force seems like a fair pick 😂. It seemed like a fairly standard chair test but with a beautiful presentation. He killed it. Penn and Teller still need to read up on mentalism.

    I could perform this trick with technology. Think tappable credit cards :-) I think once you know the colors in the envelopes, you arrange them in an order the rest of the trick works. Massive Kudos to Javier for overcoming his anxiety to perform on a huge stage with a huge audience!

    I feel his preformance was over the top he may have fooled Penn and Teller but I don't see how this routine proves he is a world class mentalist. The routine was pretty basic from my point of view but much like you're not a doctor I'm not a mentalist or stage magician. I feel the best mentalist I've seen is a native Brittish mentalist named Derren Brown I feel he's far more humble much more entertaining and well known. I'm happy that he got over his anxiety though I've had issues like that and I can relate as well.

    He keeps wondering whether the Spanish Mentalist (Ole!) could know what colors were inside the envelopes, but that would not explain how the banner had the correct colors. It is also unrealistic to think he had rigged the banners so they had every possible combination of colors. He had to have found a way to force the colors he wanted into the envelopes he wanted, but that seems impossible because he never touched them after handing them out. Both Penn and Teller picked up random envelopes and found them to be ordinary envelopes, so this is a real fooler. The Spanish Mentalist (Ole!) did great and he was very entertaining.

    • @Onimiki
      @Onimiki 4 роки тому

      @@JorWat25 This is basic! He said orange is not a color and remove it. The colors left are only 5: Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green and Red. He knows where the colors are maybe with the RFID (I noticed as well that he passes very close to each envelope) then he put the people with the color they have in the position he wanted (same as the final prediction).
      The final prediction is there from the beginning so he must achieve that final result: Blue-Green-Red. The point here is: how he knew about the colors?
      Maybe every single paper thrown in the air had a small RFID chip like the one on clothes in stores. Now they are so small and thin and the trick is in the yellow band he is wearing around his waist: on the side it has a kind of tail, maybe an antenna/reciever.
      Pay attention every time he passes close to the envelopes he point the end part of the band towards the envelope.

    A great performance and how he did the trick didn't really matter, everyone was entertained and that's the point. His Doctor was right to try and get him out in front of people again otherwise he may become reclusive. Choosing magic was a brave thing and i guess he may have had some failures, but you pick yourself up and do it all again and every step you become a winner.

    I am a 4th year medical student. Exposing the patient to the things that triggers their anxiety is a form of therapy. It is usually done under supervision in a gradual fashion as a desensitization therapy. Not sure if it helps panic attacks though, as it is usually targeted at specific phobias. Cognitive behavioral therapy and medication are the best treatments for panic attacks, but he probably received a combination of therapies as phobias can be associated with panic disorder. Probably focusing on the wrong part of the video lol
