Yeah, Stanton really is an exquisite design. And it's doubly hard for any other style to get our attention, since we were raised on the Staunton standard. I like to consider other times and places as well... And what could have been

These are really nice chess sets! One of these days I'll have the money to start buying some of these, especially the Calvert, my personal favourite of the ones you have shown here.

The knight in that Fischer set is really something ! Nice lovely sets you have. I definutelg have to get my hands on one of those Viennese coffee house sets! I love the dubrovnik design, this looks like a very nice set as well

I've just been looking at getting my first decent set and I'm really drawn towards Fischer,Spassky set, especially after watching your review. They have a set at H.O.S that comes with a board and a nice storage box for $299.

Hello there. Nice presentation. Back then, extra queens were considered excessive. 1.5 percent of All games ever played had pawn promotions and 99 percent of those games already had captured queens and other pieces. Thank u

Thanks for the message. That's a tall request, there are so many variants. Our book ( aworldofchess.com ) makes a point of mentioning that information as the various games are introduced. Let me know if there are any particular variants you're having trouble pinning down, as far as piece value goes

Yeah, that's a good one. It's hard to argue with Bobby Fischer (he wouldn't listen anyway). Me, I like many sets for many reasons. That's why I'm such a fanatic

Thanks for the good comment. The set shown here resembles the set Fischer and Spassky used in the 1972 World Championship. But perhaps you are thinking of Fischer's favorite, the Dubrovnik set, which was his personal set ... that one does indeed have the knights' heads curved to point downward.

I will never understand why the bishop has a head of the opposite color. It is confusing.

We all have certain aversions don't we? ...certain things that just run against some inner sense we have of what feels right in a chess set. The cross-colored bishop tops is a very popular theme in many sets, mostly from the 'Eastern Bloc'. ... but usually not the whole head like this. Personally, you know what style of chess set I can't stand? Those cheap little plastic ones I used to have to play with when I was in school. And we played on red and black checker boards. I felt like the game of chess itself was being insulted, just to have to manage such junky little sets. But all this stuff here ... I just kindof like the cultural variations. I would be happy playing on any of these sets

Thanks Jorge, I know that is the authentic design, with the stamps. I think they still have them from Jaques, but very expensive. Maybe I should just go get me a stamper and some good red ink :)

I am sure your chess sets are Betty nice... But I'll just have to take your word for it because your video quality ( lighting, focus, placement etc) is really poor.
I do appreciate your info and time you put into making the video but unfortunately because of the poor visual quality I'm not sold.

Hey come on Carlos, I make the videos with the equipment I have, not the equipment I would want. It happens that I have a better camera now, so future videos will be better quality. But there's no time to go back and re-make old videos, just time to move forward with the new. If you are really interested in these chess sets, please check my listings and see if the photos there serve your eye any better. In the meantime, I'm quite comfortable with the fact that not every viewer will be 'sold' on these chess sets just by watching this video.
