I hope everyone realizes how dangerous these runs are and what a legend lucas is. I skied with lucas at solitude and saw it first hand. Most people wouldn’t even think of trying to do Alf’s high rustler at any time if placed at the top… let alone with low base depth! Not only does he do these crazy runs, he cruises. You’re my favorite buddy…. Everyone else please think before you try any of these runs, Lucas makes them look simple, I assure you they are not!
Very good point mark!! Not sure if I need a disclaimer or anything but these are definitely not runs to try if you are not experienced with this type of terrain. Skiing is very dangerous and these runs especially you can get seriously hurt if you aren’t careful!!
@@LucasCatania17 Great points for sure! High Rustler can be hard to navigate on those traverses! Going around the bend brings you in a little lower but less rocky...and I've never been up there with thin cover (usually there later in season...making the entry a lot nicer!). Great stuff...looks amazing for so early in the season!!
My very first time at Alta, a "friend" took me to Alf's as my first run...of the season. (I'm a lifelong East Coast guy that had mostly skied in Pennsylvania at that point.) Survived it but it definitely is not easy.
alta is just one of those places that truly humbles you as a skier and tests both your physical and mental capabilities. stoked we were able to get as much skiing in as we did!
Alta is the "Holy Land" for skiers. Went out 5 years ago to spend the winter and I could never spend my winters any where else. That is a true statement you made. Humbling! Top to bottom non stop on Main Chute is Savage! yeeew

Spamming you here too just in case you see it: I feel like I saw you on the lift on Supreme on Sunday (12.4.22). Were you the one who hit the right side of Supreme's Divingboard? Whoever got that for the first time of the season (to my knowledge) hit it so perfectly. Like in the only spot you could actually land it with the way the snow was. Money! Edit: I just would love to see the footage, it's so big right now... and it was stomped. Love your videos man. Just don't make Alta ones lol ( but 60% dead serious haha) Totally understand that's a selfish comment on the last line, but the vibe there mustn't change for real. It's so good. I feel like the bird feels so much more competitive, and it didn't feel that way 10 years ago before they got more commercialized.
Lucas, skied Alta about 20 years ago when I was 58 two weeks before Christmas, it was about 30% open when we arrived. On the 2nd day we experienced a Rocky Mt snowstorm and they received 40 inches, us easterners skied during the storm, it was epic, the locals waited til the next day, watching the powder horns race for 1st tracks the next morning was very entertaining, luv your videos, still skiing at 78!
Great run on Main Chute. Inspirational for this 70-year old. I'm a Bronx boy 9 months of the year but Alta's my home the other 3. Never ski'd off the top. Maybe this is my year. See you on the slopes! 🎿
LOVE Alta. Ski Only, and IF you want you have Snowbird next door. Started skiing the Wasatch in 1967, Solitude and Brighton. Great snow, Great people and NO SNOWBOARDERS. Best of Utah is 6 in a day, Park City, Deer Valley, Brighton, Solitude, Alta and Snowbird.
Back in 04 my daughter, 11 at the time, and I were going up the tram at Jackson Hole. I showed her Corbet’s Couloir and asked if she wanted to ski it, she balked and made a comment assessing my mental health. I never took it off the bucket list and after seeing the 63 year old at the bottom of the chute in Alta it revived the stoke! Thanks!!
LUCAS, just to help you out, that first run is Gunsight, Eddies is the first notch form the High Traverse you will see, a more direct bootback to the top, while Gunsight is that path of snow you followed!! I've been skiing at Alta for YEARS now, and I truly think its one of the best resorts in the world. I hope you go multiple times this year because there's so many cool little areas and chutes and of course traverses! Thanks Dude!
gotcha! thanks so much will. it makes sense now when i look at the trail map. in retrospect, i shoulda just stayed on the high T to get over to high boy!
I love watching your videos to get me hyped up for the ski season. You are such a legends. Thanks for the countless amazing videos! You made me a snowbird /Alta guy and got the stoke elks!!
I don't think I have ever had a bad day at Alta, and I feel so privileged to have grown up learning how to ski there. I've been to all the other resorts in Utah but none of them compare. Alta is just different. Better. Gotta get these finals done and head up the mountain. Thanks for the stoke Lucas.
Dude Alta always looks amazing, I've never been because I'm one of those dirt bag snowboarders 😂 Not taking yourself too serious is part of what makes these the best ski videos on UA-cam, great work!
Ahhh..you included a nice glimpse of filthy inversion air in the Salt Lake Valley! Kudos to you for dropping into the chutes on what we would consider thin cover (15 yr Alta passholder). Also for barely breathing hard. I'd certainly be panting like a dog, particularly after the long booting! A heads up to those pondering Alta for the first time. What you're looking at him skiing is labelled as a single black diamond at Alta. Alta doesn't rate double blacks or anything resembling that. Their greens are blues if you're used to skiing the big, wide groomers at places like Vail, Aspen, Tahoe, Deer Valley, Park City, etc. Some of the blues will be a black to you, and the blacks could encompass just about anything else. Giant moguls (with no snowboard lines ;) ), cliff drops, tight tree runs with long traverses and maybe booting...just a black. You need to know that when comparing to places you may have already been. It's a rough place for less than intermediate skiers, particularly right now with Sunnyside out for an undetermined time. That first one is eddies high nowhere, Gunsight starts on a ridgeline, and has three distinct trees that if looked at correctly, look like iron sights. Great runs, super entertaining commentary!
Alta has always been my favorite mountain to ski. So many challenging runs. Headwall tree skiing was my favorite run. This was back when skis were long and narrow.
Regal Chute is the spot. came through there one time, there was five or six French cats stopped above the grouping of trees in the middle of the chute where the line splits two ways, I was rolling I think I scared them for a moment the snow was superb that day, like a hot knife through butter... When you have skied Sierra Cement your entire life that Utah Pow is like the kind.....
My best day of skiing last year was at Alta! Beautiful day perfect snow! The vids are keeping me pumped til I can get out there on my new Ripsticks! Thanks Lucas Ha.
Damn dude my legs are burning just watching you make those jump turns on Alf's... I FEEL like I could do this slowly and carefully but I def don't have the balls for it lol... keep up the good work man
Main chute and Baldy's are what I remember from Alta as the highlights been its been over a decade since I skied there. Going up to Wymoning and Montana this season but I think Utah will happen next year. Also, November Main chute is hella early, I don't remember ever hitting it that soon, I do remember skiing there on Christmas Eve then going to either Brighton or Cherry Peak for night skiing- we usually did Brighton by clipping passes back in those days but I think that day was Cherry Peak, hit a buried log and flew headfirst over a cat-track, definitely top 5 scariest fall.
Good job. After a run like that my legs would be noodles at the start of the ski season. I have been taking up roller blading again. I find that helps my skiing. I am in my 60’s now and I sick to the upper intermediate runs. The steeps are a thing of my past now. I have never skied Alta. For the steeps I have skied Mammoth, Squaw Valley and Jackson Hole. Mammoth is still my favorite place to ski.
I skied ALTA only one time and it was in my opinion the best area that I have ever skied ! I am from Colorado and have been to many ski resorts in the state but nothing is better than my experience at ALTA !!
I skied main chute in 2010. Looking over the cornice telling myself don’t fall. One day cameras will actually show how steep the shit you ski actually is. Hoping to make it back this year or next. I had to double check this was a new video because that snowpack is unbelievable!
Nice, Lucas. Pretty good season that you are having. This video takes me back about ten years. First time at Alta, first run of the year, my buddy takes me on Alf's. Didn't mention it was so challenging. I remember two things- endless traversing to get there and then wanting to pummel him for making that the first run. At least we went right to the Peruvian and had the first brew of the trip. Cheers.
The Stoke Elks have been christened 🦌 great video, brother! That Main Chute drop was so freaking sick love the energy from this video and that's what sharing the stoke is all about 🤙🏻
Love the vids. I’ve been skiing Alta since ‘77. We used to park and sleep in the parking lot. Been telling my son I’ve seen 3’ of snow down in Sandy at thanksgiving! Again, thanks for the amazing video. See ya at Alfs
I just moved to SLC to get a full season in at little/big cottonwood. First time coming across Luca's channel. Main chute at Alta is no joke and you make it look super easy! Hope to bump into you out here some time. Have a good season!
Skied High Rustler when I was there last spring, and you made that entrance look pretty easy! It was pretty tricky even late season. I had a local show me Cathrine's Area too... got a few really fun runs over there. And your run down Main Chute was beautiful. One of the things I'd never experienced was the amount of hiking/traversing Alta asks of you to get to the really fun stuff. I came to enjoy the pace and sense of adventure of a little extra work. That said, that hike up to Main Chute is a little above my pay grade for now. HA!
Alta: a long traverse ahead haha But yea definitely takes a lot of cat tracks and mini hiking to get into the good stuff! Definitely recommend main chute though at some point :)
LOL. "It's always easier if you don't think too much about it," My motto exactly... If that fails someone yelling "send it," is a great motivation as well. Also, much appreciated that you have balls/are a good skier. I've see waaaaay to much footage of blues on youtube.
Cameras never give justice to how steep the terrain you ski actually is…. I skied the baldy chute in 2010. It was gnarly, dropping in the cornice was the most intense part. The fact that you ripped it before thanksgiving is awesome. I had to check to see if your video was a new one or one from last year. Your videos bring some great ski trip memories back to me!!!!
You skied more in November than I did all last year! Alta was so nice, I love wind pack powder! Keep it coming Lucas, just shows how many followers you have. STOKE!!!
I love your vids, and please keep your content coming! I just wish you’d sort out your lazy uphill (ski coming out of parallel) when you are skiing some of the firmer stuff, I had the same issue for years, but I’ve sorted it out with lessons and it’s transformed my skiing, maybe do a video on a private lesson?? Could be good content?
Super stoked bro! My favorite place in the whole world is Alta. Learned how to ski there at 5 years old. 30 years later it's still the best snow on earth. Keep up the bitchin videos brother!
Great start to the season Lucas and good to see that you are now getting a much higher number of views that the quality fo your videOs merit! Looking forward to more great videos
Had my first pass at Alta in 1972 and graduated from the UofU in 1973. Skied High Rustler and chutes many times. Believe me when I say that the conditions pictured are NOT right for a fun run. Hard snow, scraping rocks, ugh...wait until December and then get after it. Nice video though.
New sub, I guess you could say new to the love of skiing. I did ski in 2009 when I was in the 4th grade and picked it up super fast but I'm 24 now and I guess life just went off into offshore work. Looking to get back into skiing.
Alf's high rustler looks so much like avalanche chutes 2 at mammoth, especially from the side, i had a deja vu moment lol even though i don't ski at alta, nice vid
I’m looking at a trail map at Alta and I don’t see Main Chute. Is it possible it has a different name on the trail map? And obviously it can be narrow but how steep is it compared to some of the other runs?
⛷🤙 Another banger in the books dude. Alta looks insane 🤯 but you made it look easy. Crazy that a few weeks ago you were skiing one groomer at A basin and now dropping some crazy chutes. Thanks for the content Lucas love your work! ⛷🤙
Lmao I think that was the most chaotic approach to high boy ive seen. Dont need to drop over that high hahah. Cheers to an awesome start to the season up here in lcc. Also James is the homie. He’s always touring up at alta pre and post season. Hes the man
Beaver Creek should have an excellent ski school. Take ski lessons (preferably small group or private lesson if u want to progress faster) and the instructors will take you up to steeper places when you have the necessary skills mastered and ready to tackle difficult terrain. Plus, they will give pep talk and cheer u on when/if you don’t feel confident about the terrain and won’t take you to terrain beyond your ability. That way you gain confidence and control/skills needed to ski the steep and off piste trails
I rode this for the first time a couple weeks ago. I got 95% of the way down and was feeling good, only to eat it on basically the last turn before exiting the chute. The snow was giving on every turn right until the last one.
Sitting here in SWLA waiting for winter break to ski at Purgatory, it's my second time and I'm addicted! Love the videos, but I'll stick to the blues for now!!
It's been a while since I had a pass there but it's a lot faster to stay low on the High T and go through "Piss Pass," It's the choke above West Rustler an the way to High Boy. You enter a bit lower from the west side and avoid all the chocolate chips, but save probably 15-20 minutes.
The question marks at the end of the trail names pretty much sums up Alta for me as I typically have no idea what run I just survived. And yes the talent level in the Cottonwoods is off the charts. There's talent in most places but typically in the 20-30 age range. Cottonwoods it's in the 10-70 age range!
Great videos this year, I was wondering if you will ski at beaver creek this year. I know you've been there before in a previous video, I was just wondering if you would again.

Thanks so much Rachel!
Headed to Alta this weekend - thank you for another wonderful video!
You're an aggressive skier! I thought a couple other videos of yours was normal stuff, but this was some badass chit! Subscribed
Thanks Chris. Check out some videos from last season for more aggressive terrain
Ahhh those were the daze! Living and skiing
Alta was a highlight of my life!
Epic skiing!❤
I love your vids, and please keep your content coming! I just wish you’d sort out your lazy uphill (ski coming out of parallel) when you are skiing some of the firmer stuff, I had the same issue for years, but I’ve sorted it out with lessons and it’s transformed my skiing, maybe do a video on a private lesson?? Could be good content?
Such a cool video Lucas! We were there that same week and it was awesome. The shot of you looking up the chute was nuts!
Super stoked bro! My favorite place in the whole world is Alta. Learned how to ski there at 5 years old. 30 years later it's still the best snow on earth. Keep up the bitchin videos brother!
Amen to that! No place like it dude
Yeeww ..great video.....nice skiing in main chute.....your best run of the year!
Thank you pat! I agree
Dope video Lucas! Those were some crazy runs you did and you absolutely ripped down them! The stoke level is thru the roof! Keep it up man.
Let’s goo awesome jack
Amazing, it's usually sketchy getting into the chute ... so much early snow!
Seriously!! Main chute was a breeze
been there at the spiny shoot area, where it was that floaty camera angle, although not that fast
its a fun zone!!
alta is just built differently, Mother Nature blessed up
she sure did.
Great video as always. Much appreciation for showing us another beautiful Ski Resort
. Cant wait for the next one!
thanks dude!
Great start to the season Lucas and good to see that you are now getting a much higher number of views that the quality fo your videOs merit! Looking forward to more great videos
i appreciate that neil! we'll see what happens this year!
So sick come out to Crested Butte in February you won’t regret the stoke you will have!
ill likely be there in march!
Looking to get back into skiing.
awesome dude! never too late to get back into it
Alf's high rustler looks so much like avalanche chutes 2 at mammoth, especially from the side, i had a deja vu moment lol even though i don't ski at alta, nice vid
sweet man! never been to mammoth
We dont have snow where I am yet but your videos get me so excited to get out there as soon as i can!
That’s awesome Ella. Stoked you like them!
Epic. I gotta go back to the bird! Such a great start to the season.
yup! been good so far
I’m looking at a trail map at Alta and I don’t see Main Chute. Is it possible it has a different name on the trail map? And obviously it can be narrow but how steep is it compared to some of the other runs?
www.alta.com/stories/the-8-steepest-ski-runs-at-alta
hope this helps! see #5 on the list
Thanks for sharing the early season stoke Lucas! New subscriber, pumped on what you're doing.
Of course man thanks for joining along!
Little Cottonwood Canyon skiing is something else.
Another beautiful bluebird day. Awesome video. Thanks man!
thanks brian!
Another great Adventure video love your enthusiasm and your descriptive narration thank you so much
mannn that main chute run looked soooo sick...snow looked so good!!!
Yes dude it was so good in there 🙌🏽
love the trail/lift icons in the top left
Awesomeb
⛷🤙 Another banger in the books dude. Alta looks insane 🤯 but you made it look easy. Crazy that a few weeks ago you were skiing one groomer at A basin and now dropping some crazy chutes. Thanks for the content Lucas love your work! ⛷🤙
haha thanks bro! seriously - one run at colorado to almost the whole mountain in utah! appreciate the support dude
Lucas: "It looks easier than it really is"
Me: butt slides my way down to safety
Haha hey dude however you get down it counts!
There is something about skiing and boarding that liberates your soul I feel
It is totally freeing
Lmao I think that was the most chaotic approach to high boy ive seen. Dont need to drop over that high hahah. Cheers to an awesome start to the season up here in lcc. Also James is the homie. He’s always touring up at alta pre and post season. Hes the man
haha i know man totally didnt really know where i was going but it all worked out!
Wow, that early snow is incredible, that has to be record drop in many decades...quite awesome...those baldy chutes sometimes never open. Hee hee..
Haha it was so sick. Thankful I was there to experience it
Wow.. Conditions looked great and you went for it right of the bat..
conditions were awesome!! thanks darin
@@LucasCatania17 my pleasure lucas.. looks like you are living in the moment..
May I ask what ski poles you suggest? I'm looking into carbon fibre material since I use gopro pole mount too. And what the ski you are using ?
Zipline blurrs are what I use. My skis are armada JJs
i go skiing in beaver creek with my family and cant ski steep slopes any tips/advice
I can’t give advice due to the online ski experts
I've been watching ur vids for a long time and love it! Keep up the good work
thank you joe!
I moved to Utah and have a pass up there. I'm not nearly as good as you but hope to take a lap with ya this season!
Is there anything better on UA-cam than watching Lucas chase rocks down a chute? I think not
Hahah oh geez. Gotta tune up the JJs already
This run is going on my bucket list for sure! Amazing episode!!
Thanks Dan! You won’t regret it
It's always the legs lol,
love the burn though
Cool another day racking up the days those passes are paying off. Keep Skiing
Yup sure getting my money worth haha. Thank you bon!
Sitting here in SWLA waiting for winter break to ski at Purgatory, it's my second time and I'm addicted! Love the videos, but I'll stick to the blues for now!!
awesome dude keep shredding!
When you coming to British Columbia bro we got the best mountains here.

Incredible video! 👍👍
It's been a while since I had a pass there but it's a lot faster to stay low on the High T and go through "Piss Pass," It's the choke above West Rustler an the way to High Boy. You enter a bit lower from the west side and avoid all the chocolate chips, but save probably 15-20 minutes.
yeah i realized that once i got there haha. i shoulda just stayed on the high T all the way
This was a super sick video lucas, thanks!
Thank you Sean!
Haha exactly. I don’t know where the hell I am half the time there
Gunsight! A fav.
dudes crushing some of the hardest terrain in north america all while casually talking to us 🤟🏻
Hahah it helps me down the mountain for sure
How tall are you and which length do you ride on the jjs?
I’m 5’9” and use 185cm
I snowboard but I love your videos always good to see some sheading thanks and keep up the awesome work.
Great videos this year, I was wondering if you will ski at beaver creek this year. I know you've been there before in a previous video, I was just wondering if you would again.
Thanks Rachel! Not sure. If I make it back to Colorado, it’ll be in March
@@LucasCatania17 Thank you for responding. I look forward to more great videos this season.
