Samsung Galaxy S24 Review - The PERFECT Small Phone?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- I don't think people realized it, but phones getting bigger started off as more of a form following function. I mean Steve Jobs even used the words "we've made something wonderful for your hand" when the first iPhone was launched, mainly because the original idea was for your phone to be ergonomic. I seriously wonder if Samsung ever thought the first Galaxy Note would ever become the phenomenon that it was. It's funny in retrospect that all of us in the media mocked the concept of using a phone that big, only for the market to force even Apple to follow the trend.
Now I say form follows function because at first it really was just a concept, which then evolved into the need of giving users more endurance, since battery technology hasn't really shrunk in a decade. At the time you picked the big phone because you wanted it to last longer, but I'm sure many of you still struggle with handling it every day. I'm sure that if any company were to figure out how to make a great small phone with amazing battery life, you might think twice… and well, it seems the time has finally come.
This is the Galaxy S24, Samsung's smallest of its latest flagships, and maybe the best phone for anyone that's looking for a great phone on a more ergonomic package. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's dive in to our full review.

Man, there's just something about the design and size of the S24. It just looks very very attractive. I think it's one of the best phones Samsung has ever designed and produced.
it's literally an exactly copy of the iPhone 12,13,14 and 15 outside of the camera config. place this face to face with an iPhone and they are identical
@@mgaming7 Apple is good with aesthetics, but they just follow the industry in every other aspect. iPhones are just Apple's version of an Android flagship. They copied the fablet formfactor, OLED displays, double then triple camera systems, wireless charging, all screen display, biometrics, etc etc.
I'm sticking with the S23. I'd prefer rounder edges of older phones like the S8/9/10, but the S23 is rounded enough to make it comfortable to use. The squared off edges of the S24 may make the phone cheaper to manufacturer, but it's not great for prolonged use. I'm also in an exynos regions (the UK) so I wouldn't consider upgrading.
FALSE.
How would this be different from an iPhone 15 just for the form factor thing? How is it unique except that it's an android
Remember when we used to call 5.5 inched phones, "phablets." What a time that was...
Keep in mind that phones used to have screens with a 16X9 aspect ratio. Nowadays, you can have a screen that's bigger from corner to corner thanks to them being skinnier.
Yes xd
Looks like phablets won the size war
Yep, 2011 was quite a year. I bought my first 5 inch phablet from China that year. I switched to iPhone SE Gen 1 in 2016 and haven't looked back. Small phones are the only way forward.
5.5 inch iphone 6 plus 16:9 screen ratio ,is wider than pixel 8 pro 6.7 inch with 20:9 screen ratio.
Yep ... those initial Galaxy Note, Lumia 1520 & Xperia Z Ultra 😅
Missing After the buzz reviews.
Same with the PocketNow Daily segment.
Totally. We're all missing seeing Jaime more often
Yeah. This channel is basically dead.
Do we know why there is a slow video releases ?
@@jacobperez8921there isn’t enough news to keep pocket daily fresh.
Great to see you covering the small S24 Jaime, thanks a bunch! 😊
6ft4 here with big hands. The S24 Ultra fits into my hand perfectly. It's when you put it in your pocket that you really notice the size difference.
Yeah, I can't tie my shoes with s23u in my jeans pocket.
@@HABO2210 I've used to had Magsafe car holder, it ripped it from the vent... Had to buy some generic one, which sucks to insert the phone into, but is more stable. :D
I'm 6ft2 and I'm tired of my S22 Ultra being so damn big vertical wise.
got the normal s24 and one of the things i love the most is how it finally fits in my pocket. especially since women's pockets are so much smaller 😂
@@BreadCatMarcus Same. I can reach the top but it takes more effort. I'm using the iPhone 11 pro btw. I need a smaller phone
Yes, I love the S23 more than the Ultra. The feel and compact nature just won me over. I was going to upgrade to the S24 for the better battery life. Still, it is Exynos in my region, and some great YT videos highlight that the Exynos S24 is similar to the S23 in battery life and around 13% worse than Snapdragon if you use it off wifi. It also heats up 2-3c more than the S24 Snapdragon, which is in the Winter; in the summer, it may become unusable. Also, the zoom camera has issues on the Exynos ATM.
So, in the end, I kept the S23; I only get circa 5 hours of SOT off wifi, which can be enough for most days. The Snapdragon S24 would have given me more headroom.
The S24 is smaller than the gigantic sized Plus or Ultra, but with a 6.2 inch display, it's not small at all. It's large.
you dont understand how a display is measured. A iPhone 6+ is 78x158mm, the S24 is 70.6x147mm. Even though the 6+ has a 5.5 inch screen and the S24 has a 6.2 inch screen. Its small because its screen takes up the whole screen.
@@leogrievous I do. I was referring to the dimensions. The iPhone 6 is large too. Look at the dimensions of the minis and the very first smartphones and you'll see how large the S24 is.
It's small for today's standards. Most phones that are smaller are very old or a cheap none flagship phones. If you want a flagship phone that's smaller than this, then you have to get an iPhone 13 mini. This size is the new normal size phone for flagship
It is a way overpriced piece of 💩. Samsung sucks
@@realitywave Really? If so, why is Samsung selling record numbers of them?
Thank you for this video. You really placed things in perspective. Made a decision to go ahead and buy it.
I'd have gone for this, if I wasn't in the exynos dump hole.
S23 exist
I bought an S24 with Exynos, and honestly, I have nothing to complain about. (Other than the AI image editor, which is honestly shit.)
I was able to get this for 40% off which was a much better deal than my S23 so not complaining about Exynos.
And the performance is noticeably better than the S23.
And loving the flat sides.
@@kara88bg I bought it and let's be honest, it's shit. This Exynos is terrible. Big scores in bench, but got damn hot and drain the battery so much. Got it at 500€ with a watch so still a good deal but a shame that S23 is better.
@FloFloFlow Where and how did you get it for 500 euros (with a watch included) 3 weeks after launch?
I just got it last week I love it so nice eye popping right out the box
Excellent video as always.
Thanks man
I'm glad the base S is keeping up very handily. I've been driven away for so long due to missing features and feeling like I needed the S pen. I'm over the pen now, useful as it is when I NEED it, but when I don't need it i have a monstrous S22U with med. sized hands and I just want something I don't feel uncomfortable simply holding now
Thanks for the great review. I think something like this will be my next phone whenever my current one breaks. Could you do a camera comparison between the new OnePlus and Pixel? Camera is important for me so I wanna know the differences between the offering.
As always, a great, thoughtful video!
Its crazy how far smartphone tech has come
I'm very pleased with the improvements. I have smaller hands, so I was looking for more battery life and smaller in size. Samsung seems to have fixed the refresh problems from the past. The S24 is more than capable.
s10e still getting me through the days since its release
Don't know why didn't do a follow up on that model. S10e are the best!
hold on to it as long as you can. I sorely miss mine. Got a s23 for a short while, and now use an iphone 13 mini. The s10e was better than both those phones (and it was the exynos version too, so sucky battery life).
I had to upgrade from my s10e because my service stopped supporting it :(
They just shut mine off due to unsupported systems. S10E is the GOAT.
Gotta add another agreement here, s10e is a great phone. I worked at a cell retailer when the s10 line was released and felt like the s10e was really the unloved sibling of the lineup. I finally need to upgrade mine and I'm really glad they put so much thought into the ergonomics of the s24 because I never thought I'd get to have a phone this holdable again.
I have both S23 ultra and S23 from last year. Both have advantages and disadvantages. For consuming media I always use ultra. But when I am outside in a car, train or bus , I always used to use s23 for its portability and receiving calls and thats why my main SIM always on smaller device.
S23 I found okish battery , using A15 now cheaper but boy battery great .
This makes no sense.
Just get a tablet instead of the ultra
2 phones is crazy
For me I use Xiaomi 13T Pro for Facebook, anime, gaming and online shopping. S24 for my main SIM, Samsung Dex, and work.
Excellent review. Thanks.
I think out of all the phones Ive had, the most significant design was the Note 2. I remember everyone was mocking how big my phone was, and how out of place it looked compared to other phones at the time. Little did they know they would be the ones who needed to catch up with the Note 2. Now, the Note 2 screen size would be considered small! All phones had to follow after the Note 2.
Great review. Thank you, Jaime

Great review, and I could not agree with you more. Thanks a bunch.
spot on regarding the battery life, it is why i am using an ultra. i want to switch back to a small phone since the s24 now have 4kmah. Wish samsung can bring back the regular note 10.
I got the s24 over the ultra . Had both the 22 and and 23 ultra, but it was too big to handle, so i got the S24, and i dont regret at all
I still use the iPhone 13 mini. A month after purchasing it, everyone kept asking why I use such an old phone. Small phones are outdated I guess. For ergonomics are important for me .
It's perfect ...only if it's on Snapdragon. Otherwise, save the money and get the S23. Here in India, we only get the Exynos.😢
S23 is still a great phone and it will get most of the AI features that the s24 has. I got the s23 last and I still love it.
@@MatthewLetendreS23 is even more compact. S24 is feels too big sometimes.
@@MatthewLetendre I'm getting s23 256gb for 52k INR ,should i care about the OS updates?
😢 (crying in Brazilian)
Here too the S24 is going to be Exynos, I already secured my 512gb S23 so I can keep it for the next few years.
Lol you will see 2400 crushing everthything it already does exynos 2400 saves more battery while eating 8gen2 as a lollipop
Such a great video brother! The S24 seems like the PERFECT small phone for sure.
Means a lot coming from you, my brother
Cute
Great review thanks. In done with ridiculous monoliths splitting my spleen in my pocket. I like the minimal design. I do like Samsung s series. I had and liked the S10 a few years back, but then went with Pixels for the last few years which are great, but this might be the first to tempt me to have a change. 👍🇬🇧
Looking at upgrading from the s22 and very happy to hear that the battery life is better. Cant even get through a full day on the s22.
Plus how light it feels in the hand too. The Pixel 8 is the same size and it feels like rock
10 years ago I would have agreed about small phones, but I've since become a large phone person. For me it's nicer for playing games and watching videos.
Back in the day I used a Note 4 and I loved everything about it, my last big Samsung was the galaxy S10 5G, I started using pixel phones like 4a and pixel 6 pro, now I'm using Samsung galaxy s24 and I love it and here in Australia we have exynos and honestly I don't see any problem using the phone, it's fast and battery is amazing and lasts the whole day until bed time I put in charge, it's just a sexy phone..and great review 👍
Had mine since January and it feels great in the hand with the case that I use! I do wish they had given an option for at least 10GB ram and 512 GB storage, but it's working for me! Great review thanks JR...
Hi! What case do you use?
Nice phone and review as always 👍🏾.
Could be the best flagship out there. But but… why they copy the iPhone band / titanium approach? I thought they were about curved glass?
Coming from the S10e, the s24 feels familiar to the hand. The only thing I miss from the S10e is the power button which pulls down the settings menu. Been using it for over a week now.
Right on.
Switch from the S10 Edge to S24. Feels identical!🔥
I have the s10e as well, is the bigger size of the s23 annoying at all? And does it seem worth or it could I hold on to my 10e a bit longer until it gets worse
@@antoniopicard1483 The s10e and s24 have the same width. The s24 is taller. S24 feels very much like the s10e minus the power button pull down menu.
I got my s24 under a promo double the memory, paid for 256gb got a 512gb. You can hold on to the s10e for a litlle longer.
@@antoniopicard1483 If you're able to get it. Treat yourself. I had my s10 for 5 years
@@HT-lh4vf I have the S10E. How do I use that power button feature?
I do find this phone intriguing. I switched from the iPhone mini 13 to the Motorola razr plus and like folding the phone for the pocket. I do see my next might be the s24, or if the s25 stays within the same form factor
Ive been using a50 first and second gen, then moved to the huge s10 lite, then s21 fe, and this now is the perfect design and size for me, im mostly using it for talking anyway :D
FYI i don't switch to chrome, Samsung browser is not bad at all. love the quick access feature
THIS!!! 👆👆👆
Samsung Internet Browser wipes the floor with Chrome.
Even Brave Browser wipes the floor with Chrome.
I agree.
Samsung Internet is much much better than chrome.
Nope Chrome way better
Battery life is better on Exynos but ya at the cost of raw power. Think thats not really a problem now but for 7 years of updates not sure itll hold up well long term
5:25 Samsung internet browser is the best, it even has ad blockers that Chrome mobile doesn't have.
10/10 agree! Samsung browser is also really clean
Do you know how to transfer all the bookmarks from chrome to samsung browser?
Thank you!!
I chose the base S 24. I wanted to go back to a smaller screen but it's been taking me time to get used to and also, I've noticed the square/flat edges of the new models are not as comfortable to hold. I miss the rounded edges but other than that, I've been enjoying my new phone 😁
Pixel 8a nice
Does the s23 and s24 still have the camera blurr issue?
Thanks for the review convinced to get S24 now. I loved S9 very much but currently stuck with sucky S21Ultra.
S21Ultra - sucky? what don't you like about him?
Hi there. S21 Ultra's camera is easily faulty after a few drops. And it is not just me but 3 of my friends have the same issue the 1 x zoom is out of focus. Of course, it is the user's fault for dropping, but many of the previous S seried could withstand such drops. But that's just my experience
Need new phone and this is the one I'm considering (on a budget). Thanks for the review.
For the first time using a small phone and I'm enjoying it more than all the time I've been using big phones. I quickly got so tired with my S24 Ultra that I couldn't keep it in my hand or pocket any longer. I never knew the S24 was my preferred small phone since I already have a Samsung phone but I also wanted a small phone with all the latest flagship specs and I couldn't get it from any company besides Samsung so I bought the S24 and I now love it more than the S24 Ultra.
I had the S2, S4 and S9, then Huawei P30, Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 6. I am now considering going to the S24 instead of the Pixel 8.
Are those pics from Valle de Angeles Honduras ?
Would have bought it if:
I could buy the Snapdragon version, 12gb Ram and 256gb storage base and had the Gorilla Glass Armour with the less reflectivity of the ultra.
Nice that you mentioned the fact it has only 8 Gb RAM and the amazing news of 7 years of software update!
OMG use Samsung Internet instead of Chrome unless you love seeing ads. There's also a bunch of other useful features such as dark mode.
I actually don't use Chrome. Stopped using it years ago. It's either safari or Samsung browser
I've always had an Android but this is my first Galaxy ever. I feel no reason to ever go to any other phone. I ordered an iPhone 15 from my first iPhone ever and I ended up getting this by accident. Turned out to be a better choice for me.
watching this on my galaxy s24
Me too
Same here liking it so far😊

easy to recommend only if its the SD variant.
Truly very nice
Samsung is most innovtative tech company today. They give their customers options.
This phone is super amazing.
I love it
I am India using S24 since 4 weeks and I am very happy with the performance of Exynos 2400
Bro is the battery life ok? Does it last a day? Or exynos draining the battery? I badly want to know because people are really mad about exynos which make me think about buying this
Please share feedback on the battery life
I have a exynos s21, must sy the bit smaller phones do work, 24 even smaller with same screen size. Just the exynos gets to work for my liking. My 21 still no performance issues
I got this phone (S24 Regular) and replaced it with my S21 Ultra as I now use the iPhone 15 pro max as my main and its a great small phone to have together with the ip15pm.
OMG I think Samsung also changes its regular font? I LiKEYY THIS
I just got this phone it seems really good a lot to get used to though I'm not a tech person
As exynos user, battery drain was insane first 2-3days now it gives me 6-9h of SoT (depends if im outside or inside) and around 20h from charge to charge (sub 10% to 90%ish). Quite satisfied, basically lasts whole day + night and can even get like 10-30% next day . Im not gaming just messenger, facebook, reddit, twitter, mails and camera.
Wow, that actually sounds pretty good. Do you have the regular s24? I’ve been on the fence about getting the s24 plus because of Exynos, so I’m checking every comment section on UA-cam to see people’s opinions about the phone. Almost got the s24 Ultra just because of the Snapdragon processor, but it’s just too big and boxy and uncomfortable to hold and getting in and out of the your pockets! Anyway, from what you’re describing it sounds like it’s a safe bet to go with the Exynos plus model. Thanks, have a nice day!
i have the s23u and use it without a case, it makes it the same size as a smaller phone w a case
brave man
My favorite phone was the note 20 ultra. I think that was the best. I gave it to my son and I want it back!
Are you gonna tell him or should I? 😉🤣
just bought the s24 over the s24+ because of this video! the size and one-handed use is a huge priority for me.
It takes good photos just before uploading them to social sites xD..you can get better output on social media than S24 series
Picked up the S24 as a second phone. I haven't used a Samsung in 5 years and it's pretty sweet. My main is the 14 Pro Max, big heavy beast that it is, it fits my hands and I'm in Apple's ecosystem. Still, I can see myself switching back to Android in a few years and judging by the S24, I'll be coming back to Samsung.
reminds me of a iPhone 4 just needs a headphone jack at the top lol
Edit* Samsung browser is much much better vs chrome. My only complaint is finding a top quality leather case. The Samsung leather case is terrible this year ( returned it ) got a camel colored bellroy case 👍 no phone complaints for me.

Ultra review?
Love everything about this phone. Need a bit of work on speakers. Need some more bass 🔊 on them. Part from that. Epic !
So far so good for me. I've spent quite some time with a Galaxy S10 and despite losing the 1440p resolution, I'm pretty satisfied with the updated s24. The battery life, OS are very good. Samsung gatekeeping the higher resolution behind the plus and ultra models is crappy but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't already used to this display and how great it looks.
in general, I’m also interested in S24, I think it will be normal to use after S10+.
I’m finally leaving iPhone to go back to Samsung! I had my same iPhone for about 4 years. I hate upgrading.
I have the Exynos s24 and the battery is the best. I always get 7-8hrs screen on time with high ref rate on and AOD with wallpaper on. I also did not encounter any lag and the device always stay cool even when I'm playing games.
I share the same experience with new Exynos. I'm super happy with battery life on my S24+. First phone when I can actually pull through the next day.
@@krisqz yes thats correct
Yea but some people will still hate exynos based on techmo's tests. What they dont know is that his unit is defective
@@blahblah1339 his unit most likely is not defective. The guy used 5g and which is apparently the worst enemy of exynos. Also Techmo himsef admitted that at some point phones were connected differently (one unit on wifi, the other 5g/4g). Also 5g coverage in his area would make a diffrence.
Long story short - there are a lot of variables that could make battery diffrence between SD and exynos, but we gotta agree that SD overall is better (even though samsung choked SD realy bad for some reason). But in my country i have exynos option only, since other regions have different aggregations. And in my case exynos performs just well.
Wish i had a SD version? Yes!
But yet again exynos is just fine, im having zero issues.

I bought S23 for the same reason last year. Trust me, it's a beast and some more.

As a non-native English speaker, I have found the Samsung AI to be an invaluable tool in enhancing the quality of my written communication, including texts, comments, and posts. This very comment is a testament to the effectiveness of the AI in assisting me to convey my thoughts and ideas more clearly and professionally.
Right. From any language to English is pretty good. The problem is the other way around
S24 owner from Brazil here and the battery pales in comparison to my previous Zenfone 9 😭
I just picked up the Samsung Galaxy S24 (SM-S921U). In order I've owned the S2, S4, Note 5, S9+, S10+ and most recently the S21 Ultra. Back in mid 2023 I crack the screen on my S21 Ultra. I decided to use budget phones for the past 8 months or so and finally decided to see what promotions T-mobile had. Got this S24 for free. I am right at home with One UI and I love it.

Have the plus keep slipping out my hand but when yhu get used to it will be ight color grey doe🖤
In terms of design and feel, how similar is this model compared to iphone 14 and 15?
Better design, better feel, better phone.
This is why i bought the s22, compact, enough speed for me, okay camera and it last me two days on one charge.
It would be nice if this had a card slot and an earphone jack.
But does it have the s-pen with it?
No
Go for the A series if you want card slot. Earphone jack has been outdated for 3 years already
My most recent phone is a Huawei P30 pro, but it's not available where I live anywhere. So technically this is a slight downgrade in terms of phone size and battery power, but it seems like a good choice and I'm considering it. As a European im not trading my SD 23 for this. Ive used 3 samsung S phones, all exynos, all had different problems, this is the 1st one without any, so ill keep it until next SD base varient
