  • My attempt to come up with a way to easily and uniformly make copper wire spirals. The reason that it is #1 is that I have a new idea that may make it just a little easier.

Another cool technique that many of us will benefit from. Thanks George.

Charles, thanks for commenting. I think you were one of the first to comment on my videos back in 2007. Appreciate you hanging in there. George

When you place the washer on the bolt to flatten the wire, what if you threaded a nut on the bolt to hold the washer in place so it won't let the wire rise up? That will keep the wire perfectly flat then when you're done remove the but and washer, perfect spiral...

Thanks for commenting. When I do some more spirals I'll use your suggestion.

Fix hand drill on the vice, usee same screw fixture and connect to the chuck of hand drill, use two 2" washer and put on the screw which you have cut in middle. of course first put one washer then fix the wire accordingly shown in video then put the second washer and tighten loose with a nut with spacing of wire thickness. hold the other side of annealed wire tightly and turn on the hand drill with low speed, let the wire revolve till the desired coil width is reached. you can also weld the first washer to the bolt to avoid its movement. to keep straght coil.

Next time put washer over it then tighten it down with a bolt. Just a 16th under the size of wire. And just wined it around. Great job though.

George, great video as always. Your method reminds me of paper quilling. Have you done any with the copper wire twisted? That spiral would also look very nice hanging from a wind chime or as part of a mobile. looking forward to part #2 of your video.

I had to look up "paper quilling". Watched a video. I think my fingers are a bit clumsy for that. Twisted copper wire: I've done some of that but mostly with fine wire. Not anything as heavy as the 8 gauge wire I am using here. Thanks for the idea. I may give that a try.

you have not annealed the copper wire, look up what that is.

If you look at the 1:00 minute mark, I say, "and then anneal the copper".

You really DON'T know what you playing off! I use to have a double spiral on my neck and I end up with a BIG tumor on the place of contact. I refuse surgery so I study allot. Now I have a pi stone of shungite with a coil clockwise on top (not at the skin). Almost dissolve tumor. It's a very stupid think to release this information without a WARNING!
