Testing on a river to combat plastic in the oceans

This summer, students from ETH Zurich will test various technologies on the river Limmat for the automatic removal of waste. The Autonomous River Cleanup project is starting with rivers to tackle the global problem of marine pollution.

This robot should be taught to snatch the trash from people who dispose plastic irresponsibly and bit them up if they don't cooperate

I suppose this is good for lighter plastics such as air filled bottles. The bubble system wouldn't be strong enough to catch heavier objects though?
