- Interceptor Barricade is now operational and capturing plastic in the Rio Las Vacas, Guatemala. As of June 13, over 850,000 kg has been extracted from the river by The Ocean Cleanup since the end of April.
“Now we await the real test: a heavy flood and a trash tsunami bringing hundreds of tons of plastic in just a few hours - in the hope that we can fully validate our solution and end these yearly floods of plastic into the Caribbean Sea.’’ - Boyan Slat.

Would love it if you could post a timelapse of all the trash getting taken out 😍 awesome work!
they won't, every top comment on every one of their videos is asking about either a time lapse or a live stream, and they have never acknowledged any of them
Timelapse sounds great!
Or live camera
That’s a great idea!!
@@protowave Can you really blame them? I'm sure they've got more important things to do than setting up and maintaining a livestream.
Thank you, Boyan. I feel your pain, and as Guatemalan from the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate your collaboration to clean up our rivers.God bless you for taking care of his creation.❤❤
Stop putting rubbish in your rivers
You guys are amazing. I wish succes and good health to every single person who works for the Ocean cleanup!
It's great. But in only makes sense if people stop throwing garbage in the river in the first place.
yea thanks, while we understand that everyone has their preferences and some people like plastic in the water it is not good for the living entities in the water and thats why it makes sense to clean it even if the people who live close by the particular river or oceans dont care
amazing would be working to get them to not throw the trash in the river to start with.
@@bryannonya9769 This might be the start of changing peoples minds about trashing the river. It is a process, it will take time and I hope it will change these old habits.
👍👍🙏thx to all of them
Appreciate y’all for what u done to my country ‘ Bello Guatemala 🇬🇹 “
The new system looks amazing and much less intrusive to the river. Awesome work. Thank you so much!💚
In many other rivers this would be much more intrusive because it blocks of the entirety of the river. Therefore boats can't pass. It works here because this part of the river is narrow and has no commercial use. This however wouldn't work in for example the Mekong or Yangtze
This is what true success looks like. Doing genuine good for humanity, for our planet. Not some fancy car and a fancy house.
Thank you for taking the initiative! You are a good man and the world is a better place because of you
I'm glad you guys managed to work this out, especially after a lot of trial and error in the early stages of the project. Your work is really important, keep it up!
Unbelievable amount of plastic & rubbish, you guys should be so very proud of the hard work put in. Amazing results from the new production and placement of the Interceptor. The world is becoming a better place thanks to you .... CHAMPIONS
This is an awsome job your doing! This needs to be world wide news.
Good to know that there are people out there that care.
I am so proud of you! 🏅
And proud to be supporting you with a monthly donation.
This is what taking responsibility looks like - you are acting on behalf of each and every one of us. THANK YOU!!
BTW: We all should look for areas in our life where we can implement change to ensure our next generations can still exist on this planet...
Crazy to see the aerial at the end and realize that would have all gone into the ocean. Thank you Ocean Cleanup!
Holy crap, that’s a lot of crap! How can we stop making so much crap? You guys are the greatest! You give us hope!
Hands down you are doing the most out of anyone else on the planet to keep it clean. ❤😊
Your efforts and innovation to capture plastics before reaching the sea are amazing, kudos to you and your team for the amazing job....absolutely epic!
Ive been watching you since you introduced your original ideas and plans.. you my friend are amazing !! It is just mind blowing the amount of trash when you see it in the rivers like that !! Be great to have a timelapse..get to see a more !! Keep on bringing those ideas !!
This gives me a smile on my face. Nice to see things are changing and we are starting to take better care of our planet
Amazing work, heroes the lot of you.
Guatemala is a beautiful country filled with the nicest people. So much trash is heartbreaking, so any way to remove garbage is a blessing.
if they're so nice, why do they do this in the first place?
It's a dump,, are you serious,,?
Horrific the amount of rubbish but very inspired by your work. Amazing stuff. Thank you all involved 🙏 💚
Great job getting the physical "trash" and plastic out of the river. The pollutants and chemicals are going to be much harder to tackle. But this is a huge step in the right direction so I applaud the team working to correct what they can. Prevention & education are probably the best solution over all but clearly easier said than done.
It's just crazy that you see 4 trucks being fully loaded, and almost no effect on the amount of plastic contents. That shows how much trash there actually is. Good job guys, looking forward to the flash flood and how it will behave!
And further upstream people just throw trash wherever. Education, government that takes responsibility for trash management.
@@magnusE7 is not about education. is recycling systems are extremely expensive and run at loses, it never gives (economic) benefits. poor countries/devoloping countries can't afford recylcing, is just not worth it (of course for nature it is, but not in economic terms in short-term perspective)
@@kerolokerokerolo education stops illegal dumping of trash, I see it here in Sweden we have one of the best trash system (the companies that produce goods and packaging pays for recycling) (we import tons of trash from neighbouring countries) mostly new citizens is the issue of illegal dumping of trash and most of those have lower education level.
Правильнее бороться с причиной возникновения мусора в этих реках, а не с последствиями! Но это роль государства и чиновников, а не Бояна.
@@JGG_2 Yes you are correct! Take action against the cause, not the end. But it is good Boyan exist.
Now this is actually what making a difference looks like!
Keep it up!!! You're amazing!!
You’re life is truly meaningful. I rejoice in it. Meanwhile mine is one of useless consumption and complaining. At least someone is doing something good. Thank you
thanks a lot for this cleaning job, the guatemalans people appreciated your care about this.-
Few thousands more like this guy and the world could easilly get cleaned up in just over 100 years
Guys I love what you are doing. And today I realized the impact even more. Part of my family loved using unnecessary plastic. Some was left for many years exposed to the elements on the balcony. Today I was cleaning four large bags of fragile microplastics. That stuff get everywhere and cleaning and collecting that is a pain in the neck. Then I fully comprehend the importance and scale of what you do for the planet and I must bow really low before your work.
Fantastic effort! Every little bit helps. We need a thousand of you!
Keep up the good work.
850t are an incredible amount for one river! installed in more and more of those and it has a noticable impact on the ocean
Fantastic!
And this is exactly what can happen without environmental regulations and actual enforcement of the law.
Really hope and wish that you would continue this unto the end . Thankyou so much ❤.
I really wish i had funds to help or come over there to assist.
Alot of people dont know how to keep the environment clean
Thank u and team for ur efforts an hard work
Y'all are awesome
REMARKABLE!!! We are so proud of you.
We appreciate your efforts. Thank you so much
What an amazing project, mind blowing, well done is an understatement....power to you all..
Will someone please hurry up and give this guy a Nobel prize? We need to recognize and reward people for tackling this huge global problem.
RESPECT & thanks from the other side of Mother Earth:
Denmark ❤
I'd love to see a roadmap like the one published for the ocean cleanup system evolution!
تشکرازاینکه طبیعت را از آشغال وپلاستیک پاکیزه میکنید.موفق باشید♥️♥️♥️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much for making a difference.
All the comments are saying "great that you are collecting all this trash" Surely we should be addressing the fact that people are throwing rubbish in the river upstream.
I'm from Estonia, and we have bottle pawn system -every time you buy drinks, you pay small fee. It will be returned after you disposal your bottle in gathering system. And thanks to that, we have very little trouble with plastic waist. I was visiting Montenegro this summer, and I was amazed, how polluted nice places were. And they don't have bottle pawn system either.
This clean up of OUR water was way over due i'm very pleased...and the recycling makes money.
People should be fined and jailed for throwing plastics. So disgusting. You guys are awesome keep up the good work.
You guys are amazing, every Govt in every country should be taking notice & getting on board & bloody well be funding you guys, funding to deploying more boats, research etc, it's so infuriating these greedy, money obsessed Govts, businesses, corporates etc are not doing enough to stop this disgusting filth.
Wat an example he is setting 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 what a big deal! I will thank you by putting my money in your cause. I believe in it.
Nice job, we really need something like this here in the Philippines. We have a lot of polluted rivers filled with plastic trash
Good you guys tried it again this time a much better setup
Well done. Thank you guys ❤
Awesome guys. Thank you so much!
Wonderful and inspiring work. For it to be complete, it must begin with enlightening the ignorance of people and holding industry responsible.
You people are doing great work...keep it up
Vous méritez un prix Nobel.
Wow fantastic, it is unbelievable to me how much trash is getting into these rivers and how is this even possible?
Biggest legends for doing this!
True heros. Thank you
It fully sickens me how filthy some humans are. But then I am also amazed by some humans like this fella as well.
I don't know how to thank you guys 😢❤
Fantastic job well done everyone
Way to go!👏👏👏 Walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
Great job Ocean clean up.
How inspiring! Keep up the good work!
Seen many videos of your wonderful effort but I'm waiting curiously to watch how you handle all these trash after collection.
Amazing!! , keep up the good work!!!, God bless, hello from wallkill ny ! 😊
Would love the US Government to focus on this problem instead of fossil fuels. This is a very immediate and real problem that needs to be solved across the world.
Fantastic, there is hope for the environment yet.
Keep up the GREAT works!
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU....
Amazing work guys!!!!
Thank you for what you are doing
Thank you!
Thank you.
great work ,you guys are real hero
where does all the stuff you picked up go? How is it recycled? Happy it's not in the water, just curious how you dispose of it?😮
*Remember people, if you can't help all you've to do is press LIKE button which helps with video algorithm, more people will see the video more revenue it brings to use for Ocean Cleanup etc*
You guys are amazing, thanks
its more shocking to see that government and officials let this happen for hundred years without doing ANYTHING
Superb engineering 👍
You guys are awesome and I totally support what your doing, of course. How does one donate to the cause?
thank you for your efforts.
Very interesting concept and congratulations for the results, are you working on any initiatives to prevent trash from getting to the river in the first place? What are you doing with the tash once taken out of the river?
This is extremely impressive ... I would love to be part of this project in some capacity.
un grand merci pour ce travail
You’re the man….seriously.
it would be interesting to take school classes from upstream to the trash pile, to show them how important it is to not throw everything into the river
Perhaps you guys could help Build a retaining fence / wall around the landfill, there still be plenty of plastic to remove from the river
Ideia maravilhosa que deveria mobilizar toda humanidade, uma vez que somos todos emissores de resíduos. ❤
crazy thing is it wouldn't take that much money for the government to set this up its the effort that's missing
The timelapse is so satisfying. Can you set up a webcam?
❤❤❤❤❤ thank you!
need to do this on every river and solve 90% of the plastic in the oceans problem.
We are a plague to this beautiful planet. Thank you for the work you are doing.
Action over accusations. Nice to see. God Bless.
This is insane to still see the amount of plastic that's entering the ocean, the govts / communities of these high polluting countries should be held responsible for this and be made to pay for this work, that will force them to come up with local solutions instead of someone else having to pickup their waste due to ignorance.
Keep up the good work
Wow 😲😲 very good job 👌👌👍👍
