I remember the front pages of the papers with the cars teetoring on the edge . I had family in Hobart for Christmas and New Year celebrations. very sad
Sad story...reminds me of the Silver Bridge collapse in Point Pleasant WV back in the 60's. It happened about fifty miles from where I live. I was very small, but can remember seeing it reported on our old black and white TV. It's one of my earliest memories...along with Bobby Kennedy's assassination, the Moon Landings, the Marshall University football team's plane crash, and the daily scrolls of the names of those killed, captured, or missing in action during the Vietnam War. Kinda strange that we can recall the bad things that happen much easier than we do the good things.
@@jimrossi7708 it's sad that we have so many unfortunate, and disastrous, events seared into our brains of senseless events. And yes, RIP to all who have passed.
Something like that happened at a big bridge Call the Skyway Bridge going back an forth from St Pete and Hillsborough County Fla Back in the early 80es A big ship hit it and a lot of people lost there lives
Interesting video, but your voice tone suggests you're not so interested, or is just a mournful tone you are using? I found out a few years ago that the ship _"Lake Illawarra"_ is still down there. I was not aware of those that were killed in the disaster, only of some of the ferries involved, as, being a former Sydney resident that's second home was the harbour, I knew the _"Lady Wakehurst,"_ which was sent down to assist you Hobart people in your time of need.
I think it's more of an "informative" tone than a disinterested one. It's like those videos talking about the Chernobyl disaster or September 11th, the narrator will speak in a normal tone just to convey the information better.
Well, they didn't design the bridge to take a hit like that. Piers, very heavy supports were not in place and may not be there now. Build to the worst scenario then add more, what is a life worth.
@Dancing With The Stars, exactly what I was thinking! I live at the Northern border now, but I had to do a doubletake because I thought it was the 92, Hayward-San Mateo Bridge. I used to drive it all the time years ago.
It's a peculiar accent. I spent some time as the US rep. to an ABCA (Australia, Britain, Canada, America) Treaty Organization working group, and it takes some time to get used to. Truth is I put in my hearings aids, when I could not hear it also, but with some tweaking got most of the words to emerge from the oatmeal mush, which I think they eat whilst narrating, just to keep us colonials at arms length.

Reminds me of the Tampa, Florida bridge collapse when also struck by a ship 🚢 R.I.P. !!!

I worked on building the new bridge, and the tearing down of the old bridge to make the fishing pier

They should have redesigned the bridge with less columns.
Like Westgate Bridge in Melbourne? And then it collapsed. I recall. Sad day this was.😢
Sounds like Hazelton got a new job after the Exon Valdez.

Sad story:( We had a similar incident here in Sweden with "Tjörnbron" in 1980
Similar To San Mateo - Hayward Bridge San Francisco Bay Area Highway 92

Deepest sympathy
Remember as a young boy seeing this as a news item on NZ TV can still see the two cars hanging on the edge of the bridge
Thank you verry much for all 👋
Almost the same thing happened on the bridge leading to South Padre Island Tx in 2001.
Thank you. I learned about the disaster when i visited Hobart in Feb 2019.
Very poor narrator and presentation.
Yes indeed a very SAD STORY for me especially Responsibility was NEVER claimed by the Ships owners, so the DEATH got the Finger again !!
So is the ship still on the bottom?
May I please go to sleep now?
thats what happens when your driving your boat with your eyes closed. :D
Very interesting video!👈👍
Where was this?
KOK BISA PATAH PUTUS....?
APA NGGAK ADA TULANG BESINYA??
Interesting on many fronts. Thanks
What's one point three ? You're reading that so how come there's a mistake ?
Where was this ?
Hobart, Tasmania,Australia. Opening view from the Botanic Gardens.
😢
Moth man was there
🤔... the Moth man prophecy?
Why would you want to remember a disaster...
To learn from the mistakes and remember the innocent lives lost. History repeats for the uneducated.
5th of January 1975 not the 7th old kid...
It’s only two days. Also wtf “old kid”
Ffs he was off 2 days, leave the old bloke alone lol
I can't understand a damn word.

@@williamheyman5439 I suppose you're familiar with the southern accent in the US?
