The most underrated rivalry in wrestling history. As kid growing up watching wrestling in the late 90s and early 2000s, watching matches between Lesnar and Angle was an absolute spectacle. It's a damn shame it was short lived. But nearly 20 years later most of their matches are considered golden (especially their Ironman match) and were performed at a velocity in which average wrestling viewers could believe it was real, not scripted.
I was GLUED to the TV for tht damn Iron Man match, too!
Couldn't agree more
Kurt’s sister died of heroin one day before the iron man match
Easily the best rivalry of 2003 💯
Easily the best rivalry of 2003 💯
That smackdown match is the stuff of legends
that entire episode of Smackdown was perfect.
Help me out, what match was it?
@@facesofevildead smackdown iron man match
Yes sir as a old school can that started watching in the 70s I agree 100 percent that whole episode rocked!
There are two matches that standout as the epitome of what pro wrestling should look like that were broadcast on live tv: Steamboat defending against Flair at The Clash in a 2 out of 3 falls match and the Lesnar/Angle Iron Man match on SD. You can throw in Hogan/Andre on The Main Event for completely different reasons but as for as how the truly great do it in the ring, those are the two that stand out in my 45+ years of watching wrestling.
That iron man match is still one of my favorite matches ever. Best match in Smackdown history. Just the craftiness of Lesnar against Angle’s tenacity and the comeback almost winning in the final seconds. Just classic all around.
100% agree one of my favorite matches ever and the best Iron Man match ever.
Truly amazing. Those 2 did not stop for a second of the 60 minutes.
Great match, I just hate that there are commercial breaks. Deserved to be on PPV.
Well, technically he wouldn’t of won. It would’ve been a draw so anything could’ve happened after that.
That Rivalry was Golden From The Start. 2 Collegiate Wrestlers In Their Time, But I Wish Brock Landed That Shooting Star Press at WM.
In his OVW days he could do the shooting star press very well.
@@TheBrockLanders420 they literally talked about that in the video
@@mjf2891 well I actually lived it and would go cross the bridge to see it. I'm from Indiana.
@@TheBrockLanders420 It Would’ve made A Better Ending. Fasure
The scary part is he almost did considering how far he was
When Brock F5-ed an incognito Kurt Angle's brother only to have Kurt sneak in & small package Lesnar leading into Mania was PURE GOLD 🔥
Their backstage segment where Kurt spits that woman with milk after Brock slaps his back is a classic
I never knew about Kurt's sister suicide, his pill addiction started because of injuries but obviously he was trying to escape reality even during his time in TNA getting into trouble with drinking. Vince probably saved Kurt's life by releasing him.
Thats false
Maybe he should have released Owen Hart …. 👀
@@constablekennedy7705 he did...... In a manner of speaking.
Ever know about his Olympic coach? Watch the movie fox catcher
She didnt commit suicide she died from a heroin overdose
Can't wait to hear Cornette's take on WWE vs. WCW
To be fair to Brock.
He never disliked being a Pro Wrestler. Look at him from this weekend. He obviously loves it.
He disliked Travel and People and just wanted to do his job and be left alone. And I was mad at him in 9th grade for leaving; but now... I feel all that is okay. I get it.
corny has a hate boner for brock but i bet brock is actually a really cool person. i mean natalya said before that brock was watching the regular wrestlers matches and giving them advice on what they could improve etc. jim is an old dog who cant be taught new tricks - hes made an opinion based off of a few statements on people 20 years ago and is stone set to never ever change it no matter how nice the person behaves now lmao. from all i ever hear about brock from things that come from backstage, its always nice stuff. hes not a bad person at all and hes not "only there for the money" he simply knows he brings in the viewers, he knows his value and thus he asks proper reward for giving WWE his presence, but he clearly really likes the business. brock is dope.
Well said Fella
The travel and fanfare has broken so many guys. Lesnar also was very young and had all the opportunity in the world to do anything he wanted. Lesnar probably felt invincible and wanted to try everything and anything, which he did and succeeded in the UFC.
Not to forget he was also in pain for much of his run
@@jamalwalkermost guys are. It’s impossible not to be when ur working a WWE schedule full time.
I watched Lesnar land a shooting star from 3/4 across the ring during a Raw dark match in Minneapolis. He was teaming with Shelton and Jesse Ventura was in their corner.
Kurt angle vs Brock Lesnar is one of the best wm main event I have seen. Both are the best of their generation and they deliver every single time.
Their matches were INCREDIBLE!!!
Like Angle and others have said Freestyle and Greco-Roman is different from NCAA style wrestling. I remember Kurt saying if brock had trained to be a freestyle wrestler for the Olympics he could have done well.
Smackdown was absolutely fantastic back then, ya never knew what was going to happen & it was always the go home show for the ppvs!
One of my favorite Rivalries ever for one they didn't wear it out and both guys were legit it was all about who was the best that's all you need in a lot of rivalries.
If Shelton Benjamin had mic skills he would have been a star
The gimmick with his mother officially did him in. That was beyond stupid.
Nobody needs mic skills if Heyman is available.
@@afrodesiac8064 Cesaro and Axel says other wise. Brock can speak convincingly for a limited time, Shelton comes across as awkward, not terrible but I can't see him carrying a main event program. But possibly in another time line he may have done, who knows?
A personality period. Like he has on uudd
@@freebird2882 Heyman is best utilized being paired with people who aren't already over. Cesaro was already over when they paired up. Nothing was ever going to get Axel super over. Axel's real problem was how often Vince changed his gimmick.
I said it once and I’ll say it again
Shelton Benjamin is the most underutilized wrestler in WWE history.
His athleticism, his explosiveness, his size, his leaping ability, and his look had everything you’d need to make a champion.
They completely choked the opportunity not pushing him to the sun after he beat HHH those two matches.
That guy was phenomenal; just wish he had some charisma
He still should've been a main event player. Not quite the guy but with a good manager he would've been ok
@@ehhhhhhh6141 Shelton could talk decently, and his athleticism was his charisma.
He definitely could’ve did with an MVP or someone similar as a mouthpiece back in the day though. A shame.
@@tonyruby4467 he was already ok, honestly had Jim gotten some more time with him he probably could’ve worked on those promos a bit.
Dusty wasn’t running things yet either so I guess it’s just a right guy wrong time deal.
Couldn't agree with you more. I would hope that Shelton could be a coach or producer somewhere.
I’ve seen that flip a hundred times. Angle was too far away, Brock hesitated for a split second almost losing his balance, and threw his arms the wrong way, hence falling on his head
It didn't help that they'd been going at it for about 18 minutes & the ropes were wet
One of the most hardcore wrestling matches isn't even a hardcore match
its really such a shame he botched it. as iconic as that botch is, to have landed that move would have been one of the coolest finishes ever. i read one review of the match on 411 that said if he had landed it he would have called the match a 5 star classic
Those last moments take away my enjoyment of the match. A miscalculation that could have resulted in a tragedy.
I read somewhere that Shelton said himself that he didn’t want the responsibility of being a main-eventer. That he was okay with what he was doing, and had no desire to be at the top of the food chain. I forget what article that was, but I know that I read one such piece.
Lesnar does second guess it, ou can see him flinch in his jump and not fully commit. He's landed that spot at that distance before and its on tape. Since he flinch he didn't get the full spring from the rope. Its like when you double jump on a trampoline to stop yourself
Angle and Lesnar were made for each other. There matches were hard hitting and brutal.
It's too bad that Benoit got brain damage and did what he did. Kurt's rivalry with Benoit was WAY better than the one with Brock.
All those matches was hella snug
Love to hear a Watch-a-long of the WM19 main event or any of their other matches.
What about the ironman match?
@@38dragonblade How long is that match actually when you take out the commercial breaks? Or have they posted the full match at this point?
Agreed
Gotta love how they completely glossed over the hostility between the two when Brock kept saying “No!” to every Spot Kurt suggested at WM 19 or when Taz had to pull the car over to stop them from fighting!
Can't wait to see the Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero Rivals.
I remember watching that rivalry when I first started watching wrestling. Overlooked and underrated. Fantastic.
"I don't feel pain. I ain't got time for that. I let other people feel pain for me." - Brock Lesnar
I ain't got time to bleed.
Brock Lesnar is a Legend for real …. 💀
That missed Shooting Star Press is one of my least favourite moments in pro wrestling. Not only is it scary to watch, but if only Brock would’ve hit it, his Star would’ve shined brighter. Management OVERREACTED and forbade it, when he had been doing down all that time in OVW. He made a simple misjudgment in distance, and ended up depriving us of seeing a monster pull out that move against the absolute best in the biggest moments. It was a loss for us.
I agree. It would've cemented his athletic aura
Agreed 💯
Wasn't the move banned due to billy kidman fucking it up and hurting himself and others on a constant basis?
Kidmans Star Press to be honestly is nowhere near Brock. The distance at WM is still insane!
Jim: Kofi wasn’t even born...
While he’s not necessarily applicable to these conversations, and neither are a lot of the people on the panel besides Nash for Bret and Shawn, how old does Jim think Kofi is?
Kofi looks like he’s 55
Lol he 41 he was alive
It’s what people in the industry call “a joke”, it’s an obscure thing. Many people doesn’t know about this niche practice.
@@chuckmendez8446 it wasn’t even funny tho lol
One thing Jim Cornette will always do is let you know he loved Shelton Benjamin.
I stopped watching wrestling as a die hard fan in 2002 so I literally missed Brock by a hair but ive seen him the last 2-3yrs and gone back and watch and man he is just such a stud and a worker. I know Jim isnt his biggest fan but Brock is great at being Brock. He’s believable, his shit looks real and stiff and everytime the ppl pop because he’s the last of a dying breed. Lesnar may be in my Top 10 of all time just because he’s …Brock and gives you the feeling inside like old school wrestling used to do.
Wrestling is a sad State of affairs nowadays bro and I mean that as far as the fans go. When you and I watched it we weren't a bunch of ungrateful pricks nowadays fans think for whatever reason that they should be able to dictate the show and when wrestlers can go pursue other adventures or when they can leave and when they should stay if they make a mistake they just ridicule them for it for weeks sometimes years because their foot slipped off the rope these guys put on live shows every week are stuntman actors entertainers for a bunch of ungrateful greedy low lives who don't appreciate anything just go and watch The Goldberg Lesnar match with Stone Cold as referee and you'll see how ungrateful these fans are
@@MinuteManClips Totally agree. Fans today always saying they won't watch again if their favourite loses. Why watch something but want it to be predictable and never go against your personal hopes? Just enjoy the show and appreciate the importance of a good heel.
2003 feud of the year. Wrestlemania 19, SummerSlam, & Iron Man match on Smackdown all kicked ass. Even the Triple Threat match with Big Show from Vengeance that year was awesome.
2 of my absolute favorites ever. I still to this day remember that failed SSP live and jumping up and going holy shit. Good old college days
I love the rivals as well too and I love Paul heyman he is such a great promoter and talent on top of how he is always in character. And again Kurt is great and the matches him and Brock had were so good and it makes me miss the era at that time I enjoyed.
Two LEGIT BADASSES that could beat over 99.0% of pro wrestlers in history in a real fight!
🤫 SHHHHH. Some Neckbeard is gonna read that and tell you how Jericho took down both Brock & Goldberg for "a shoot"
@@sacredsteeler real wrestler in a street fight are deadly. A dump on the head and neck can end a fight and change a persons life in one takedown or slam.
Daniel Puder might dispute that especially as far as Kurt Angle is concerned …
@@constablekennedy7705 That wasn't a real fight. Angle was working and Puder went into business for himself.
Both guys are monsters in their own way. Legends in their own time. Angle’s addiction struggles were tough to hear about, but thankfully he’s doing better. Idk if I could handle my favorite wrestler going before his time.
Jim is right about Dick The Bruiser being very similar to Brock. I'd only seen 50+ year old Bruiser, and never got it. Then UA-cam was invented, that man was scary in his prime.
Fritz VonErich was very much the same when he was young and by far the best of all the VonErich's as an athlete and pro wrestler.
The push segment amongst the two of them never gets old ..
The amount of my friends I caught out doing that 😂😂
Kurt with MMA training would kick everyone's ass in wrestling.
We reallyy need to have a Smackdown Six documentary of some sort, and yes include Benoit as well. It's the precursor to the modern wrestling that's trying to exist along Vince's age-old model of wrestling.
It's really not a pre-cursor to anything, as the formula was used 30 years prior by Verne Gagne, except his formula was 8 guys.
I dont think people give the rivalry with big show and lesnar enough for me. The outcome was incredible to me as a kid, and legitimized lesnar for me. I remember thinking there is no way lesnar can lift the big show. Even as a kid, you can tell when someone is helping. I never seen anyone throw show like that. It was good stuff. This rivalry and undertaker were good also.
I think their matches were entertaining, which is something you wouldn't usually expect from guys their size.
I loved this match up. This was when Lesnar was a true "wrestler". Lord he was good....This was when Kurt was in his apex in speed, tenacity, timing, and performance .Kurt Angle is my favorite wrestler all-time. Besides Benoit, Lesnar was the best dance partner for Angle. The NWJP match was iconic as well, we'll never see this again. God bless us all...
Omg . You said Dick the Bruiser. I said that to some friends. He was spectacular. My favorite as a kid . Glad I was able to see him once.
You are the all knowing
The pushup challenge was one of the best segements of all time
TNA Perc angle is one of the most OP wrestlers of all time and no one can change my mind
Perc lmao
When Kurt was off a bean only god knows what’s gonna happen next
The BEAN kicked in!
Kurt on a perc. TNA knew he had problems then put him on tv in a feud involving his ex-wife, her new man, and Kurt’s kids saying they preferred the new guy lol. They were pushing Kurt further into his addiction
Why did they never comment on the Flair parking lot beat down or his last match since it was announced?
they're probably trying to pretend/wish it never happened.
Conrad Thompson….
Awesome Shoot Today Jim!!😎🐐🐐
Lol Jim you do know that Kofi is 40 right? This happened when Kofi was like 22
It’s what people in the industry call “a joke”, it’s an obscure thing. Many people doesn’t know about this niche practice.
@@chuckmendez8446 no i think he actually thinks Kofi is a lot younger.
@@chuckmendez8446 that was not a joke bro
a great rivalry that dealt with actual Wrestling. brock was still doing the Wrestling spots ; and didn't rely on just suplex city and the F5s . Kurt angle took it to him on their rivalry. i wish we could have seen one more match between them
Loved Angle vs Lesnar SummerSlam, iconic match
The thing I never knew is that Kurt is the one who told Brock to do the shooting star. I thought he just decided to do it on his own lol.
Whats the channel that puts it match with this podcast
“The Minnesota stretching crew” 🔥 🔥
I am Chinese man
I Remember the Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar Rivalry in 2003 that was awesome Their Matches @ Wrestlemania 19 Summerslam 2003 and the Ironman match on Smackdown was amazing they had great chemistry together and wasn't there a Rumor that Johnny Ace wanted brock to do the shooting star press @ Wrestlemania XIX because Johnny Ace saw him do it in OVW.
I actually would like more episodes like that. Episodes about a specific set of matches and not an entire feud.
They should do one of Cena and Orton's trilogy from 2009
Kurt Angle told him to do it.
@@sc30002001 oh it was Kurt I accidentally thought it was Johnny Aces idea totally forgetting that it was Kurt 🤣🤣🤣
@@bigsteve8921 I Absolutely Agree that would be a good idea.
I dont think jim realises kofi Kingston is 41 years old so he was very much alive during these rivalrys in the 90s/early 2000s
Mystic should have called Tom..."I would like to talk to Tom please."
Wow. Forgot about that one. Wonder what Cornette thinks of that angle?
Was thinking if Jim and Brian would be interested they would make a awesome addition to Sirius Xm. Just sitting here on my bday same Ole getting in a few 15s of the cast. Vaping some northern lights the babay
It wasnt that kurt was too far, it really was Brock 2nd guessing himself. You can see him about to leap, but doesn't commit and getting nervous. Then when he does commit, he jumps but realized he didn't take off properly and wiggle himself mid air to rotate properly but did get to 360.

Lesnar putting Angle over in Japan was legendary
Brock vs Kurt is the greatest Wrestlemania main event of all time.
Given WWE's vast alumni pool, one would think that having someone like Mick Foley hosting this show would make much more sense than Freddie Prinz jr. (Whose dad was awesome, btw)
Freddie Prinze Jr is a mega fan who also worked for the company.
@@darksideon
Okay. But still, why have a celebrity fan, as opposed to someone that has actually been involved in the business firsthand?
I'm not knocking Freddie Jr. Just curious as to why not a former wrestling personality instead?
@@reedeux7818 he was writing for the WWE during this time period. He's the one who put the world title on Jeff Hardy for example.
Gotta respect everything Kurt gave to the wrestling business dude was really a wrestling machine 🔥🔥🔥
With a broken frickin neck
To bad about snakes brother. Pardon the pun, but Eric angle and Kurt could have done massive damage wrestling wise and entertainment wise with Brock.
The early Era of SD is better than whatever AEW is doing lol
I don't know have you talked about this or not Jim Cornett but have you ever talked about the time that Ric flair was on Sally Jesse Rafael show?
Can you imagine the modern day wrestlers against either angle or Brock in a real wrestling match??? It would be a slaughter. Then again they would just do their gymnastics routine and run around jumping all over the place to stay away from them.
That whole time period was underrated
If Kurt doesn't go off the deep end and brock leave I'm certain the in ring style is more shoot based in the E. A generation of these guys influencing the next.
Brock and Angle in 03 was amazing
Better call Steven P New for the royalties, Jim.
The ironman match is my favorite Ironman match I ever scene. Most other ones get boring. That one had my attention the entire time.

Kurt said he won the "shoot" match he had with Brock either 3-2 or 2-1. He said it was tough
Refresh my memory. Was Kurt the one who slammed Shane O’Mac through the glass displays at the entrance?
Yup
Indeed. King of the Ring 2001
wait, Kofi wasn't born as of 2003?
I was wondering why brocks interview is old and kurts is recent
The only thing that is POINTLESS with this WWE Rivals stuff is that Roundtable they have. If you gonna have a roundtable discussion about the HBK vs Bret or Brock vs Kurt rivalry, then have the ones that were IN THE RIVARLY discussing it, not ones like Kofi & Tamina along with others who being told what to say discussing it
Yeah the roundtable is extremely melodramatic and cringe, we don't need Beth Phoenix to remind us that she's strong but Brock is way stronger, that's kinda obvious even if he wasn't a genetic freak? The only person I like on the panel is Nash, LOL
Kurt Angle looks like Low-Ki in this art.
Fav moment from their rivalry is when Brock made Kurt spit the milk in that girl's face..
Corny has a BIG something to say about this.
The comments made me wanna watch the Iron Man Match tonight
