    "Are you haunted by the echo of you mother on the phone? crying as she tells you that your brother is not coming home. And if there's anyone that still has pride in the memory of those that died defending the old red, white, and blue." How the crowd cheers and stands made me cry. The CMA awards came on about a week after my brother (USMC) deployed to Afghanistan, so those lines really hit me. And this Memorial Day weekend was spent welcoming him home on Saturday night. Semper Fi.

    This is the reason I started listening to country music..BRAD PAISLEY..I heard "he didn't have to be" on the radio one day and got hooked..circa 1999. I keep him in heavy rotation on pandora at work even to this day. Him, MJ and Tina Turner. I love this song too

      I'm an atheist, and I believe that if it that happened, it was unacceptable. Religious freedom is a right. He's not forcing anyone to listen to his song. It's a great song, too. It is my opinion that it's true that you shouldn't just tell people that Jesus is the only answer, but he should be allowed to say what he wants in his song.

    Anybody else notice how he sounds exactly the same live as he does recorded? This is why country will be the best; because these artists can do something very crucial that no other genre seems to be able to... SING!

    • @inkoinfinity2
      @inkoinfinity2 7 років тому +18

      Ben Lico So Freddie Mercury can't sing?Robert Plant can't sing?Whitney Houston can't sing?Aretha Franklin can't sing?Dio can't sing?Nat King Cole can't sing?Bing Crosby can't sing?To say only country musicians are capable of singing is crazy.Get out of here with that ignorant garbage.
      Edit:This comment is 2 years old and I've accepted alot of country artists sound the same live.But the way the original poster worded it was wrong, he's not saying other genres are all bad live.
      Edit: 5 years later and I realized I was way too aggressive in my replies, my apologies to all

    • @kats4826

      Johan Liebert i think what they mean is that other genres tend to sound different live then they do on their studio versions. obviously there are some people in other genres who still sound the same, but not a majority of them.

    I have always turned to music in both good times and bad. I love all types of music, but I grew up on country music and that's where my heart turns when it needs comfort, solace, or some old fashioned 'feel good.' Today, this song is especially meaningful and came right to mind as I tried to reason the senselessness of the attack at the Highway 91 Festival in Vegas. My heart is broken because it shouldn't have happened... not at a country music show. A seasonal country music event where everyone, from all walks of life, comes to enjoy the music, artists, friends, fans, and have a great time. Sadly, the rational, realistic part of me knows we are vulnerable everywhere, anywhere we go these days. Remembering those who lost their lives, their families/friends, the injured, the survivors, and everyone touched by this horrific act. May the entertainers continue to step on stage like warriors, may we as fans continue to cheer them on by going to their concerts and singing along with them, and may we all use music to heal our hearts. My prayers go out to all. #ThisIsCountryMusic #CountryStrong

      It's because it doesn't sound like the R&B or Rap music that they call country music. I love the song but generations have changed so much with the new artists of today's music.

    I feel like Paisley will be remembered as the Tom Petty of our generation. Just an entire library of excellent quality, fantastic catchy tunes that will endure for decades. For me, Whiskey Lullaby is his "free fallin". I love his tributes to the Greats of earlier generations in this song. As someone earlier mentioned, George Jones wondered "who's gonna fill their shoes", well, Brad is that man, without a doubt.

    It has been said that "You Don't Call Me Darlin" is the best country music song ever written. That may have been true........ UTIL NOW! I cannot express enough how amazing this song is and how much i love it! It should be the official country music anthem!

    This song is the greatest description of the country music genre ever written. There is at least one song out there that everyone can relate to for some point in their life. It doesn't matter whether it's about a good time or a miserable one, relationships, work, family, life-and-death, whatever. It's about life, and that is what makes it the most popular genre today.

    Saw Brad Saturday night in Vegas...This song was one of my favorites from the show but EVERY song (all 22 that he played) was good! He's awesome in concert! Period! One of the best guitar players in country music (then there's Keith Urban, of course - another great picker). Brad's guitar playing added so much to his show. Glad to have been there and I'll go again!
