@jake My takeaway from this is this, please let me know if you agree.
    1. If I miss a stud or have a shiner just leave it.
    2. There's no real need to address each nail penetration with Zip liquid flash to air seal that penetration since the nail has filled that penetration and isn't letting any moisture through. This is a big costs saving if this step is removed from the sealing of a structure.

So the theory is the coating on the zip seals around the siding nail. But the siding nail is under a lifetime of stress from the siding expanding and contracting and having wild pulling and pushing on it so unless you created a rain screen with furring strips that are sealed the nail penetrations are going to leave over time .
Since the majority of homes use vinyl siding as it is cheapest, it’s probably not the best method. But since tyvek is almost always installed improperly (after the windows are installed) it’s probably worse under the windows where the J-Chanel leaks the most so zip is still probably better than tyvek

Would love to see something similar to this when windows and doors installed, then you've got a bomber set up.

Thanks for the water test - can we have a fire test?

Cool product, wish it wasn't $60/sheet right now

Should we be using galvanized nails on the zip sheathing?

And -151.5 Pa of pressure converts to a whopping...wait for it...-0.022 psi...! Which is essentially no vacuum whatsoever. Stay in science class kids. Don't drop out then become a home builder...! Or better yet, don't drop out and actually become a home builder that knows the basics behind the building sciences. And can devise a proper experiment at the very least. Besides the point, Tyvek has a better video demonstration showing the difference between their product and zip, particularly at a non sealed nail head in the zip sheathing. No disrespect to this man but he has to realize that there may be people watching that actually studied this stuff for real...for many years...and earn livings as engineers and scientists.

I'm disappointed in this test. You tested bulk water penetration through polyiso and spin it off as something to do with zip sheathing, which is permeable. Also this test says nothing about the migration of vapor, which would likely drive through the OSB since its a retarder, not a barrier. And also this test does nothing to cover condensation which is another way water gets into walls. I just don't see how this is useful for anyone. But that's my opinion. I see a lot of people drawing false conclusions from this video.

the green coating is the barrier

@@loumalibu5596not true. Sorry bro. Water gets through it eventually.

@@CybekCusal What do you mean "not true". The ZIp Green "coating" is the WRB i.e. the barrier. Please point to either real-world examples or testing that shows water getting through a Zip assembly with poly-iso on the back. Condensation isn't going to occur on the backside of poly-iso if it's not cold, if there's additional cavity insulation against it either bat, blown or sprayed.

@@hu5tle- you really asking these questions on a UA-cam channel sponsored by Zip.... any data coming from a source paid by the vendor is obviously tainted. I'm not going to bash the zip product here nor post links disparaging the product. I'm simply expressing my personal opinion. Even just read the description of the product, it's a "water resistive barrier" what do you think that means? Water proof? I think not. Lol. I accept apologies in the form of cash for wasting my time and having to teach you the basics of how to read a brochure.
