His childhood was so sad...as though no one wanted him... that's a horrible feeling. He was an excellent actor, wish he was still with us. RIP Steve McQueen 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My friends and I met Steve McQueen and his wife Ali MacGraw around 1974 at El Mirage Lake. We shook hands, the first time I ever shook hands with a movie star. He was one of my favorite actors.
Steve McQueen was a student of Bruce Lee, Lee once said in an interview that during sparring he had knocked McQueen down several times but that wouldn't stop him, he kept getting back up over and over, Lee was impressed not an easy thing to do, not since Ed Lubell the Judo master threw Lee around like a rag doll backstage of the Green Hornet(true story)...Lee would then go on to earn a black belt from the acclaimed "Judo King", just as Mcqueen would earn his plaques in Jeet Kun Do from Lee
Steve came out of the USMC in 1950 . He was lucky because on June 25, 1950 North Korea invaded South Korea and as usual the marines were some of the first to be sent there. Steve's timely honorable discharge gave him the the fortune of avoiding a smelly , frozen foxhole in Korea. Instead, he started acting school in Greenwich Village . Movie Director/Actor Mark Rydell has a video on Steve's Manhattan 1950's walk up apt. urban life style. I've been a McQueen fanatic since I first saw ''WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE'' on TV during the late 50s. I also remember seeing him in the boxing classic SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES ME (1956). Steve played a gang fighter in a NYC Lower East Side rooftop fight scene. I also own a VHS copy of SAND PEBBLES (1966) and it's one of my favorite flics. My wife calls Steve ''Holeman'' , his character in SAND PEBBLES. RIP Steve !!!
More Surprised by the rolls he turned down, however his legacy is so great, The Sand Pebbles, Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, all have stood the test of time. R.IP Steve Mcqueen.
I have the actual bobble-head Alsatian dog that was in the back window of Robert DuVall's Taxi. They didn't call them bobble-head then; they called them 'Nodders'.
If you don’t know anything about “Grand Prix”, admit it. Jay Leno says it is his favorite car movie in his entire lifetime. It was 1966 and before CGI. They delayed the movie six months for James Garner to train and get his racing license. Grand Prix racing is racing on all three factors: Power, handling, and brakes. They entered Garner in one of the European Grand Prix races along with the other cars. They put the cameras on a team of Ford GT-40s to film James Garner’s race car. There was a fatal crash, and the footage of that crash and the plume of smoke seen distantly was used in the movie. Steve McQueen turned down that role. And he deeply regretted it, like one could regret no other. Sorry. Sometimes you have to just slap the ignorant ones who jump up with their insults. I got more if that doesn’t do it for ya.
The Golden Glob award means nothing. McQueen should have received an Oscar for both the Sand Pebbles and Papillon. He may not have saved his own life, but he did save the life of Harlan Ellison. The world owes him a debt of gratitude for that, if nothing else.
He physically abused his first wife, Neile (I read her memoirs) until she finally was able to get rid of him. He was also known as a ladies man, before, during, and after their marriage. Not someone I admire, to put it mildly. I admire Neile because she triumphed over her awful first marriage to him, and went on to marry a kind and decent man. Bravo to her.
I've read Neile's book as well, & seen several interviews she's done. I've also spoken 1 on 1 w/their son Chad for several min. at a Porsche event in Daytona several yrs ago(his pop would be proud Steve clearly was a good dad). Ìt's sad how people like you go to all that trouble to clearly satisfy a desire to learn about the guy then turn around & not only bash him but misconstrue the facts. Man hate much? Neile has made it very clear several x's Steve was never abusive until she confessed to getting even w/him by having an affair too. This is not to excuse his philandering, or his abusive antics the rest of their marriage. But those are the facts. As is that Neile & Steve stayed very close the rest of his life, & they had heart to heart visits when he was in Mexico very ill & dying. You should know this if you read her book. And you want to claim she "finally got rid of him"? Hardly! Would she have continued on w/him like this if he was such the terrible guy you're trying to make him out to be? I think not! Again, not to excuse some of his behavior, but Steve was flawed like anyone else. He was psychologically abused by his parents, physically abused by stepfathers, & just had a really rough childhood in general. It's miraculous he didn't wind up in jail most of his life. Instead, he made it all the way to the top. But he clearly carried demons thru most of his life. You seem to have some of your own. Maybe it'd be more constructive to work on yours than bash on a guy that died an agonizing death over 40 yrs ago? And be considerate of the fact he has grandkids & what if they were to see you bashing their granddad. So not cool...
One you suffer an exposure to asbestos it will stay dormant for years and you will know when it becomes terminal ,asbestos partical hook into the linnig of the lung and can not be removed, there is no cure ,so he didn't leave it to late ,it was out of anyone's control..he was my favorite actor. COOL HAND LUKE ,PAPILLION, GREAT ESCAPE, BULLET. RIP ..if you find asbestos don't disturb it or remove it ,its not your responsibility, professional removal only
Im currently reading a book about Steve McQueen he also was invited to a party luckily he decided to racing his sports car Charlies angels arrived its sad what happened that night
Steve McQueen was that dude bro 😎 man wht a waste of human being smh was one of my favorite actors along with Charles Bronson,Paul Newman,Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford those were the dudes back then
He dies from mesothelioma, an type of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure. McQueen was stripping pipes in ships while in the US Marines, which was the source of the exposure. It is incurable. RIP
He's also remembered for the great escape, Nevada smith, nullity, the ciccinatti kid ,the getaway, and the towering inferno. He was not in cool hand luke. That was Paul Newman.
His childhood was so sad...as though no one wanted him... that's a horrible feeling. He was an excellent actor, wish he was still with us. RIP Steve McQueen 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
So true smh
A true icon. There will never be another Steve McQueen.

Mr. Steve McQueen may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. RIP!
I never knew what a tough, young life Steve McQueen had, albeit his life experiences probably helped make him the great actor he was.
he was McQueen playing McQueen, not that hard to play yourself.
Legend, my hero. Brilliant actor and quite rightly called The King Of Cool.
He was class.
There will never be another like him.
Steve did save his own life. He came to God in his last eighteen months. He was a WINNER in life and in "death".
Thanks for watching, Norma!
Same thing I was thinking. Steve failed? He did not need to save himself, Jesus saved him and he is very likely in heaven with the Lord right now.
not a very smart going to Mexico for cancer treatment. USA has the best treatment for cancer with Chemo, Radiation and surgery. Total idiot.
Great movie “ papillon “. A true artist.
It's such an awful way to die, and he was such a good actor 😢

Great star who rarely needed a stunt double,a man's man
Such a beautiful person .. so sorry he left us so soon
I know what it is .. my experience too .. we get older & forgive
In the Towering Inferno, he was great!
Big budget B-Film, LOL
If you loved him.......like. if not then comment........,☺☺
Steve McQueen will always be a legend in Hollywood.
Steve mcqueen had an affair with Mary Wilson of the supremes. I read about it in Mary's book.
Mr.McQueen is a great actor and is so sadly missed!!!
not a very smart going to Mexico for cancer treatment. USA has the best treatment for cancer with Chemo, Radiation and surgery. Total idiot.
Be so busy loving God, loving others, and loving your life that you have no time for regret, worry, fear, or drama. Amen
He did. He came to God in his last 18 months on Earth.

Very interesting, thank you so much for sharing this info about Steve! What other types of video would you like to see?
Interesting how we are all Children of Our Time, Steve's good fortune, only to be marred by cancer.
You can’t save your own life. God saved it for him. He believed in Jesus Christ, Savior.

Steve McQueen is my favorite actor
Me Too.
1:12 He even knows trigger discipline back in the 70s, how cool is that
Everybody who owns a gun knows that
@@mr.clapemcheeks2016 not really in the 70s trust me

Bullit in vhs from a yard sale was my introduction to him blown away from the car chase scene in san Francisco
He lives on thru his many films on the screen.
Steve McQueen did save his life, he gave his heart and soul to the lord Jesus Christ he has eternal life.
Life is such a short ride.
More Surprised by the rolls he turned down, however his legacy is so great, The Sand Pebbles, Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, all have stood the test of time. R.IP Steve Mcqueen.
He and Paul Newman rule!
Newman inherited films after James Dean died.
😮❤
Chadwick Steven McQueen was born in Los Angeles on Dec. 28, 1960
RIP 🇺🇸 september 11 2024 @ 63 🙏👋😇
A legend
Still the king
Check out: On any Sunday. A Documentary about his love of dirt bike riding. The Great Escape an Papillon. Awesome movies. RIP
The Sand Pebbles as well. Some of his best work in that one.
Did learn of the rolls he turned down.
Which roles did he turn down?
He should have received the Oscar for The Sand Pebbles....his finest appearance.
I have a Flight Jacket and a Mustang to this day..
Mustang dated in ?
I have the actual bobble-head Alsatian dog that was in the back window of Robert DuVall's Taxi. They didn't call them bobble-head then; they called them 'Nodders'.
Definitely the king of cool. He could have been a Felix Leiter with james bond . Cause he could have been a CIA agent or section chief
Not surprised he had to turn down a few roles. What surprises me is that Yul Brynner was taller than him. McQueen must have been a midget! LOL
He was 5'6". People who hung out with him admit that.
He was a small guy.
The greatest role he turned down was Grand Prix in 1966, and his greatest regret. You didn’t even mention it.
Steve wasn't an actor he was
A " movie star"
Dont be a plonker...rodney..

I'm surprised he was just 50
He did a lot of living in those 50 years.
He was five foot nine and three quarters with shoes. Weight 170 .
Beware of The Blob, it creeps
And leaps and glides and slides
Across the floor
Right through the door!
He might be Hollywood royalty but i was never a Steve McQueen fan and wasn't keen on his films.
So what. He's got millions of fans.

Not someone I admire, to put it mildly. I admire Neile because she triumphed over her awful first marriage to him, and went on to marry a kind and decent man. Bravo to her.
When Steve McQueen was married to Ali McGraw, he made her go without makeup, give up her acting career and told her she couldn't have male friends.
I've read Neile's book as well, & seen several interviews she's done. I've also spoken 1 on 1 w/their son Chad for several min. at a Porsche event in Daytona several yrs ago(his pop would be proud Steve clearly was a good dad).
