      Zo? Doris Day was no saint....a most difficult actress to work with. A lot of other performers did not find Doris as wonderful and chaste as her image portrayed. The greatest line ever said about her was, "I knew Doris Day BEFORE she was a virgin". That says it.....Oscar Levant.....

    • @jajanesaddictions
      @jajanesaddictions 2 роки тому +107

      @@brucemarsico6, First, I was relaying the fact that Doris Day was a loyal friend to Rock Hudson and honored his wishes to remain silent about his sexuality, including his decision to not tell anyone about his AIDS status. Secondly, you are quoting someone (Levant) who was a junkie, bipolar, had his family walking on eggshells most of the time, and spent several stints in a mental hospital. Thirdly, He never said that line. Groucho Marx said it, and that's not the whole quote. Besides, who is a saint anyway? I was not commenting on her image. I was commenting on her loyalty to a friend. Don't get it twisted.

      @@jajanesaddictions Jane...you're a spinner...wonderful retort. Seems you spend much of your time trying to figure out long gone Hollywood stars. I couldn't care less who said IT...IT was said. As for Oscar Levant...okay, he may have been a schmuck in a lot of ways, great pianist though. Perhaps you have a copy of Rapsody In Blue/Columbia Lp CL-700, Oscar Levant/Andre Kostelanetz...great album. Don't try to psycho-analyze it.
      As for Doris, she made a great lp/Day by Night/Columbia CL-1053, romantic, beautiful singing. She was difficult to work with and her image belied her true personality. Never said they were wonderful beyond belief. Have a good time...

    His best role by far was the film “Seconds” where he plays a man given a new identity and face, so he can be himself. That’s the message I got , as Hudson must have grasped the meaning of that role. The movie is almost entirely cast with black listed actors, so they too knew about getting a second chance. That is what Rock Hudson was not given in life because of the times -a chance to be himself.

Sadly, it makes no difference if you are gay or straight if you are two people who need different things from a relationship or are unable to provide something important your partner needs then you need to go your separate ways, which is what happened to Rock Hudson and Lee Garlington. I'm glad he had a daughter and may well have grandchildren now and that his family line did not end with him. He was standing alone, away from the rest of the cast and crew, so a friend and I just walked up to him to say "hi" and hoping to possibly shake his hand. We ended up talking with him for at least 15 minutes while the crew was setting up lighting and the camera. He was exceptionally kind and seemed to enjoy our brief conversation -- no sign of a Hollywood star attitude. Of course, I realize now that it probably helped that my friend was an absolutely gorgeous, tall, muscular 19 year old who had a habit of wearing his button down shirt completely open to show off his amazing body! @@FactsVerse Well...I liked his performance in "Giant" a lot.... I liked "Darlin' Lili" because I am a big fan of Blake Edwards and Julie Andrews. I liked his sturdy, underplayed performance as he controls the relationship with Doris Day in "Pillow Talk"....in addition I really liked Rock's cameo on "I Love Lucy" .

    Our chorus had Armisted Maupin as a guest artist and did various takes on "Tales of the City." The account of the principal character's encounter with Rock Hudson elicited a response from an audience member, who must have been living in a bubble. They emailed a critique with words to the effect: " How dare you imply that Rock Hudson was gay..."

    My Dad was a big fan of Rock Hudson. But he never spoke about being a homosexual. Perhaps it was too much for him to accept. But now that he has passed on, I hope that he has overcome his reservations and has been able to talk openly with him on the other side and has become more accepting of all people everywhere. ♥️

    It must have been very hard for Rock to play romantic roles with women because he was gay. He pulled it off because he was a really good actor. May he Rest In Peace. I really felt sorry for him when he contracted AIDS. I knew someone who died from AIDS and it was horrific.

    Pillow Talk was/is a comedic masterpiece, imo. No matter the number of times I've seen, I'm always entertained, as if it were the 1st time. The episode of I Love Lucy, Giant, any of the Sirk films, his short stint on Dynasty, when everyone was afraid Linda Evans would die too because, in an intimate scene, they kissed...each entertained, each showed talent beyond his good looks.

    He was the kind of actor who took his art seriously. And he respected his fans by keeping his private life, private. I miss that the most in actors and actresses, today. The fantasy dies, when celebrities chose to make too of themselves, public. My most favorite films are his Doris Day comedys. They were magic together. Even today, they are the perfect pair.😊
