It was a difficult time, starting in the mid 80's, into the 90's. I lived in San Francisco. Friends and many others were dying young. I appreciated Mr Hudson coming out about having AIDS. It woke a lot of people up.
And then that damn disease and almost wiped us out. We had very stressful lives at that time. I'm glad these young guys coming out now don't have to go thru what we did back in the day.

He is Creator and knows how His creatures are to behave. Interesting enough, most everyone 60 years ago understood this, and people of most every culture and beliefs also did, for most of the ages past. Recent modern man thinks that he knows everything, but has completely lost his sense of morality. He calls good evil and evil he calls good. God is the one we all answer to. He made man for woman and woman for man, totally obviously to anyone who cares about truth. I got to see some of those movies awhile back on TCM. It cracked me up how such a seemingly-sweet, nice girl as Doris Day in those films could too often be such a UNREASONABLE HARD-HEAD. Shocking-- and hilarious! It got me thinking that Jack Kirby may well have modelled "Sue Storm" on Doris Day. The personalities were so similar.
Love him regardless of his sexuality as he was so gorgeous and fabulous actor. Sad for him to have had to live a lie but he was lucky to have so many close loyal friends.
Rock Hudson was gorgeous, gay or not. He was wonderful in Giant. I am sure his life wasn’t easy or fun living in fear of being found out. RIP beautiful man.

Said to say that I never really appreciated just how handsome and talented Rock Hudson was until after his death. He seemed to be a kind soul and may he RIP.
I loved rock hudson. He was fanastic in every thing he did. I remember he died in 1985. I heard it on the radio at the dentist office. I will never forget
As a little girl I can remember watching Rock Hudson on the big screen at our local drive-in theater. He portrayed an Air Force pilot. I remember the strategic refueling of the airborne while flying. My favorite scene is the fistfight Rock Hudson gets into with a Marine Corp veteran at the end of the movie Giant.
My father used to tell my mother back in the 1960's that Rock was gay, she used to get so mad at him and refused to believe it. When Rock came out she was floored.
And so was the rest of the world! It was criminal that Rock Hudson didn't tell his partner Mark, that he had aids. I read the story of the Lawsuit against Rock Hudson, Rock Hudson had told one of his associates "to take care of the boy, I might have killed him" Rock Hudson did kill him, Mark his partner died not to long after the Lawsuit!
Finding out that Rock was gay had no real effect on me or how I felt about him as an actor. I found it sad, that he had aids and still made public appearances as he was showing the effects of the disease that eventually took his life. The man did his own thing, and did it very well. RIP Rock Hudson, and thank you for all the wonderful films.
I was extremely disappointed and turned off to learn that Rock Hudson was a homosexual. It spoiled my attraction to him and I never saw him as a true and authentic masculine man again.
@@ilovebeinggay6794 interesting, to me masculinity isn’t based on who you choose to love or have intimate relationships with. It is the energy that palpably inherent. That said, some of the most beautifully sensitive men (in Cinema) worldwide would not necessarily have been considered ‘masculine,’ - sometimes other qualities that were not necessarily ‘feminine,’ but illusively unique.
@@seagle111 that's true. But I'm wired for straight-ish macho and athletic types. Real forceful and physically authoritative (not abusive) men. I love physically powerful men. Straight men. As friends only. My best friends have always been straight men.
His best role by far was the film “Seconds” where he plays a man given a new identity and face, so he can be himself. That’s the message I got , as Hudson must have grasped the meaning of that role. The movie is almost entirely cast with black listed actors, so they too knew about getting a second chance. That is what Rock Hudson was not given in life because of the times -a chance to be himself.
I first saw Rock Hudson in "Giant". When I was 12, there was a movie theater showing a revival of Giant. My aunt was babysitting me and took me to the theater to watch it and left me there. I sat through "Giant" twice all the way through before she came back to get me.
Yes, so do I. He always played the romantic heterosexual lead. Even with the advances made, would a modern day openly gay actor be cast in huge heterosexual romantic lead roles? I cannot make up my mind. Maybe not.
Rock Hudson was blessed with the handsomest face any man could possibly dream of and as a double dose he had an excellent physique too! Wow! It's also good to know that he was also a very pleasant human being. RIP Mr HANDSOME🥰😍🤩🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
He had no choice but to tell it like it was, he was dying from the disease. Wow they put this man on a pedestal. He deceived people about his sexuality and who he was. The worst part was he lied to himself

In the 1950's Confidential magazine was going to reveal that Hudson was gay. Universal studios met with Confidential. They agreed to kill the story for $10,000 . In return Universal studios gave them a story about famous actor being in a reform school when he was a teenager.
I grew up watching and admiring Rock. My dad told me when I was 16 that he was gay and I said "no way". My dad worked on sets with Rock and said they kept it very quiet but men use to be brought to Rock's dressing rooms. It wasn't til Rock had aids that I saw it was true BUT it didn't matter...I Loved Rock and Giant is my favorite movie ❤😁❤
Yes Rock should have been born 30 years later, but back in the Golden Years there was so much homosexual activity, makes me wonder Who was heterosexual! Alot of Lesbian relationships going on too! I always loved Rock and was surprised when he came out of that 'old closet'! May he Rest in Eternal Peace ❤🙏🙏
A sad story indeed, but Rock Hudson was a great actor and his filmography proves it, When was just a kid in the 1970's I discovered him on the NBC Mystery Movie TV Show "MacMillan and wife" with Susan St. James. Even at a young age, I was hooked on his show and Columbo. What Hudson did to bring awareness about the risk of Aids was paramount. God bless him.
My Grandma loved Rock Hudson. She was devastated when I told her well he'd never get rock hard for you. She had no idea he was gay . So many of these stars male and female had to hide their sexuality in those days . That had to be tough to deal with. However his decision to not tell his late in life lovers he had Aids was absolutely criminal.
Maybe it's best we don't know which stars are gay or not- in the end, does it really matter....??!! Anybody could see Liberace was gay, but to some women, they didn't believe or want to believe because he was like an unattainable fantasy they cherished & he was the ultimate entertainer to them!! Doesn't matter too much these days who's gay, but the stigma still exists & the closet isn't fully open for some....!!!
I only first noticed Rock Hudson back in the 80s when he appeared in Dynasty and that kissing scene with Linda Evans. Just then I realized he was a handsome actor back in the 50s and 60s. What a great actor he was!
I loved all his movies with his dear friend Doris Day… great comedies, all of them. And he proved he could b a great serious actor as well; his performance in “Giant” was one of his best. RIP ❤️
My mother was devastated when RH came out! I remember how upset she was at the time! I asked her later on, why that had made her so upset, and she responded, that if someone like him could be GAY, what was this world coming too! It's sad that actors had to put on a front in order to work in the industry!
I learned about Rock Hudson long before back in the 70s but that didn't stop me from idolizing him and enjoyed his movies which he played opposite Doris Day and Gina Lollabrigida, who I felt worked beautifully with Rock. Also, adorable Sandra Dee who was cute and funny when she interacted in her role in "Come September."
Thank you for your beautiful message for Rock Hudson! We're happy to know that you're a fan of his. What other types of videos would you like to see on our channel?
Come September was one of the most underrated comedies of all time. Rock and Gina were also incredibly attractive in their day. She is still alive I believe and if so will be 95. If one looks at La Lollo in that movie it is hard to imagine an actress in Hollywood today of her beauty. Whilst known for her comedic roles she did give a rather good performance in the drama "Woman of Straw" which I believe came out in 1964.
Very handsome man. I was told back in 1979 that he was gay by an upcoming actress that attended a party at his home. When I was in the 7th grade 1972 there was a rumor about him and Jim Neighbors. That was when Anita Bryant was on her anti-gay campaign. I am 62 now and still enjoy his movies. I don’t like it when people disparage people that have passed. Hateful. RIP Rock.
I love the 3 big movies Rock made with Director Douglas Sirk, Magnificent Obsession, All That Heaven Allows (both opposite Jane Wyman) and Written on the Wind. In each of these glossily photographed and gorgeously art directed movies, mid-1950s America is perfect on the outside, but riven with secrets and social tension on the inside. They are perfect vehicles for Rock Hudson.
Hilarious that they showed a picture of British TV personality Susie Dent, alongside the secret daughter revelation. My jaw hit the floor! Susie Dent and Susan Dent are not the same person.
My favorite Rock Hudson acting and movies was with Doris Day Hands down! I loved them together and it worked because they were great friends first! Pillow Talk was my favorite movie with them. I loved watching each one separate and together!
Thank you for sharing your favorite role of Rock Hudson. We're happy to know that you love him. What other types of videos would you like to see on our channel?
I always enjoy the secret lives of the older Hollywood stars. Seems like so many of them were either really unhappy or had lives that parts had to be hidden. Interestingly enough it just proves they are regular people with problems who somehow managed to reach stardom but still had many tragic things happen to them.
He had a lovely smile, a genuine one, where his eyes disappeared. Sadly, it makes no difference if you are gay or straight if you are two people who need different things from a relationship or are unable to provide something important your partner needs then you need to go your separate ways, which is what happened to Rock Hudson and Lee Garlington. I'm glad he had a daughter and may well have grandchildren now and that his family line did not end with him. My favourite episode of McMillan and Wife is Cross and Double Cross where he (as Police Commissioner Stuart McMillan) danced with Nancy Walker (the Housekeeper Mildred), they must have had so much fun - I wish there were out- takes, with any luck these may surface at some point in time.
I grew up in a small town in N. California. Back in the early 1960's, Rock Hudson was staying in town during the filming of the movie, "A Gathering of Eagles" which was filmed mostly at Beale AFB. It was said that while at a bar in town, a woman approached Hudson and asked him to dance. He reportedly told her "No, if I dance with you I'll have to dance with every broad in the place." That perhaps wasn't the only reason.
The Undefeated he plays opposite John Wayne they became friends. Rock Hudson proved he could be a rugged western star and hold his own with John Wayne. I'm certain John Wayne held him in high regards.
I met Rock Hudson in 1977 while he was on the campus of Cal State Northridge shooting a scene for (I think) "McMillan and Wife". He was standing alone, away from the rest of the cast and crew, so a friend and I just walked up to him to say "hi" and hoping to possibly shake his hand. We ended up talking with him for at least 15 minutes while the crew was setting up lighting and the camera. He was exceptionally kind and seemed to enjoy our brief conversation -- no sign of a Hollywood star attitude. Of course, I realize now that it probably helped that my friend was an absolutely gorgeous, tall, muscular 19 year old who had a habit of wearing his button down shirt completely open to show off his amazing body! (A habit which caught my eye in much the same way, which is how we became friends in the first place.) RIP Rock.
I interned at CBS WBBM-TV during college and met Rock Hudson briefly. He was extremely tall with a very affable and gentle demeanor. He lit up the room...

Our chorus had Armisted Maupin as a guest artist and did various takes on "Tales of the City." The account of the principal character's encounter with Rock Hudson elicited a response from an audience member, who must have been living in a bubble. They emailed a critique with words to the effect: " How dare you imply that Rock Hudson was gay..."
My Dad was a big fan of Rock Hudson. But he never spoke about being a homosexual. Perhaps it was too much for him to accept. But now that he has passed on, I hope that he has overcome his reservations and has been able to talk openly with him on the other side and has become more accepting of all people everywhere. ♥️
You have a picture of Peter Michael Bergman (born June 11, 1953) @ 7:56 an American actor best known for his portrayals on soap operas - Young and the Restless.
It must have been very hard for Rock to play romantic roles with women because he was gay. He pulled it off because he was a really good actor. May he Rest In Peace. I really felt sorry for him when he contracted AIDS. I knew someone who died from AIDS and it was horrific.
Pillow Talk was/is a comedic masterpiece, imo. No matter the number of times I've seen, I'm always entertained, as if it were the 1st time. The episode of I Love Lucy, Giant, any of the Sirk films, his short stint on Dynasty, when everyone was afraid Linda Evans would die too because, in an intimate scene, they kissed...each entertained, each showed talent beyond his good looks.
He was the kind of actor who took his art seriously. And he respected his fans by keeping his private life, private. I miss that the most in actors and actresses, today. The fantasy dies, when celebrities chose to make too of themselves, public. My most favorite films are his Doris Day comedys. They were magic together. Even today, they are the perfect pair.😊

At that point in time I was still struggling with my sexuality so imagine my shock when the big reveal became known I saw him in his brief role on the show Dynasty which I was a fan of even then to me he didn’t look quite right….When I learned of his passing this huge sadness came over me
I love that Rock Hudson was down to earth. He was beautiful and so likeable on screen. I wish he had been able to have a full life with Lee or someone he loved❤.
How about, 'All That Heaven Allows', with Jane? Even better!!!! One if not THE most beautifully filmed movie ever!!!! The ending gives me goosebumps, every time! Then ,'Pillow Talk' and 'Move Over Darling', with Doris Day! They were perfection together on screen! He was great when he played a cad and an all around great actor!!!

My favorite movie, of Rock's, was Pillow Talk (1959). He and Doris Day had great chemistry.
Yes Love it Pillow Talk
I got to see some of those movies awhile back on TCM. It cracked me up how such a seemingly-sweet, nice girl as Doris Day in those films could too often be such a UNREASONABLE HARD-HEAD.
I love the 3 big movies Rock made with Director Douglas Sirk, Magnificent Obsession, All That Heaven Allows (both opposite Jane Wyman) and Written on the Wind. We ended up talking with him for at least 15 minutes while the crew was setting up lighting and the camera. He was exceptionally kind and seemed to enjoy our brief conversation -- no sign of a Hollywood star attitude. I dont think there were any movies or t.v.shows I didnt enjoy watching him in.Great body, good looks and smile.Pity times were so rigid back then.R.I.P. Rock loved you way back then and your "coming out"didnt matter to me.♥️👍
Rock and Doris whatta pair. I can't forget Tony Randall.
I wish all of our old Hollywood Stars didn't have to hide.Their lives would be more enjoyable and have their freedom!
🙄
Do you know if Tony Randall was gay? He seemed to be.
@@helenfong3339 He was married twice and had kids. I don't think he was. No matter, he was a great character actor!
8:02 Is the WRONG actor! That's a photo of Peter Bergman from Y&R.
Yeah, that stunned me, too!
That's what I thought too when I saw it!
Lol I know him as Cliff, Nina's boyfriend, from All My Children.
I met rock Hudson at the George Raft club London mid 1960. We had a dance, I thought he was the most handsome man in the world.
How lucky was I.
🙏🕊💜
It baffles me that, even in 2022, some people still think that being gay is a "lifestyle choice".
I like to say... you can choose who you marry, but you can't choose who you FALL IN LOVE WITH. Life would be so much simpler if you could.
Who thinks it's a lifestyle choice?
One movie clip of "Captain Hamilton" is really Robert Stack, NOT Rock Hudson.
I saw that too! I thought maybe I didn’t recognize an early Hudson movie.
I’ve noticed some of these channels don’t seem to double check anything before putting out videos.
Thank you for your comment and validating the error. Great eye!
I don't know anybody who didn't love Rock Hudson, years to come the world well know what a true friend and a great actor, RIP Rock.
I love the movie Giant 1958 👍 His best
Rock did not willingly admit he was gay. It was very near the end of his life and the hospital in Paris told him they wouldn't treat him otherwise.
What rubbish. French Doctors don’t dictate such silly crap. You must be an american.

Right! It was military hospital. They couldn’t keep him for some reason.
Great actor
We agree! Thank you for watching our content. Be on the lookout for our next video!
I remember how sickly he looked just before he died. I had never seen a Rock Hudson movie. Only via UA-cam did I see McMillan & Wife. He had a refreshing lightness about him, like Robert Wagner.
Steven Torrey - That was James Garner in Rockford Files. I loved them both.
@@dvestal7583 You are right.... Rock Hudson was with Susan St. James in McMillan & Wife....
I was actually too young to remember him in many of his movies my mother was an avid fan… my full awareness of him as an actor and his history when his TV series was on the air call McMillan and wife he start with Susan Saint James….
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Rock. Which of his roles appealed to you the most?
I loved his work with Doris Day and he was really cool with Yvonne De Carlo in Scarlet Angel
My favorite movie was “Magnificent Obsession” with Rock Hudson @ Jane Wyman! I loved their performance in this wonderful movie!!
Thanks for sharing! What other types of videos would you like to see on our channel?
How about, 'All That Heaven Allows', with Jane? Even better!!!!
One if not THE most beautifully filmed movie ever!!!! The ending gives me goosebumps, every time!
Then ,'Pillow Talk' and 'Move Over Darling', with Doris Day!
They were perfection together on screen!
He was great when he played a cad and an all around great actor!!!
@@bethelle9099 Thank you for the suggestion! We'll look into it ♥
Thank you for sharing this..
Odd that you refer to a photo of Paul Newman and “his wife” as if she was not a star herself. His wife was in fact the great Joanne Woodward who is as much a Hollywood legend as “her husband.”
