I really really really hope today's kids get to see this masterpiece. I rewatch this every year at Christmas. It's as good now as it was when I was small child.
Does Disney still have creative control of this aspect of Henson's output? I'd wait in line to join Tiana for this lovely trip up the river. Are all those robot critters just gathering dust in some Warehouse somewhere? What a pity if so...
The cool thing about this story is that you expect one of the two good guys to win or tie but you can't believe the mean animals WIN. BUT they they throw a twist where losing a competition isn't the end. They get a steady job doing something they love which means they are better off than winning the contest. That was quite something different to teach kids. You don't always win but if you work at it you might get something even better.
I remember watching this as a kid when it came out in '77/'78. It took 20 years until I saw it again. I made sure that my kids didn't miss this show growing up. We've watched it every year for 23 years straight.
I'm 54 and when I watch it I do what I did as a kid put the TV on the floor grab the blanket and pillow and lay on the floor only now I just have 2 dogs that'll lay beside me
Every year I get to watch this. And every year it makes me sad to think that we don't have Jim Henson The mastermind of the Muppets. I was always a fan of his work.
His daughter is carrying on the Henson legacy. She created some wonderful puppets for GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S PINOCCHIO. I enjoyed the movie in the theater last year. Rewatched again recently on home video.
This got sappy reviews back in the day...so did it’s a wonderful life...Paul Williams is a musical genius...this story and music touches your spirit so sweetly...Hope kids get a chance...somehow..someway..and take a liking to it’s simplistic message...I watched back then..and watch it every Christmas since...since the internet anyway..🥰
I love anything with Jim Henson ...and sadly I don't remember ever seeing this...how could I have missed it? Well I found it now and I'm going to watch it with all of the other classics...like A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, Frosty and I also love The Walton's:A Homecoming (reminds me of an old fashioned Christmas)🎄
@@jonijohnston1688 Thank you so much, it’s very kind of you and something one rarely sees in the world these days, especially in the UA-cam comments section (although videos like this one, definitely bring out the caring people of the world). I wish you and yours the merriest and happiest Christmas-New Year’s…🎄☃️🎅🏻
Thank you so much for posting. I was born in 74 and would watch it every Christmas. Even until I was into my 20’s. I haven’t seen it in probably 2 decades or more, but I still enjoy watching. I’m just a big kid anyway…😁
A more innocent time when Christmas was magical and we had such treasures like this to make the holiday that much more special. So many loved ones of mine have passed on and when i watch Classics like this it brings me back to those days of my childhood i miss that.
Grocer: “Hey, you, you young ragscamps, you just messed up my fruit stand!” Catfish: “Oh, sa-sorry.” (Spits water in grocer’s face.) Pure gold I never forgot about!😂
I watched this is kindergarten and thought it was a fever dream. at the age of 23 I finally figured out what this movie was and got to experience it and appreciate it for being so good .
It’s one thing to make Muppet characters ride bikes, it’s another that they made this whole little town small to size for all those characters. If only they could do something like this again.
Jim was a real genius for creating these amazing characters and continue his masterpiece legacy a true iconic Disney legend and a really good actor aka the original Kermit the frog aka Jim Henson RIP
With the state this country is in right now we need a video like this. The words, songs and message really hits home. So sad there is so much hate in the world. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I was 14 when I first watched this delightful Christmas tale. I am almost 61 and I have watched it every December since I discovered UA-cam. Merry Christmas to everyone!!
This program was genius--start to finish. I love that otters are all poor but they live it without complaining--without even mentioning it. Their joy is not in material things but in music and each other. Henson and company made these wonderful otter Muppets knowing they would never be used again. Some years back, when the Smithsonian mounted a traveling exhibition of Muppet art, Emmet Otter was included.. Seeing that the Jim Henson Company has been re-aquired by Jim's children and it is still located on the former Charlie Chaplin Studio in Hollywood, I think it would be the ultimate tour experience if the company dedicated some space on the lot to a similar exhibition of the art of Henson and the Muppets. I think tourists, especially those with young children, would be clamoring for a ticket.
There was nothing I got more excited about when I was a kid and seeing this on HBO every Christmas. I've saw others mentioned this but yes this was definitely a huge part of my childhood as well. One of my favorite things from my childhood
thank you so so so much for having this, and WITH CAPTIONS! This has been the one Christmas special I watch every single year since childhood and regardless of location.
I’m just barely into my 20s and my mom and grandpa would always sit me down to watch this every single year. I hope having it here makes it so that we can keep the tradition moving.
I really really really hope today's kids get to see this masterpiece. I rewatch this every year at Christmas. It's as good now as it was when I was small child.
So does my family (on my father’s side). This was one of my late uncle’s favorite things to watch on Christmas Eve.
If you’re in the Chicago area, Jim Hensons studio is is putting on Emmett otter until the end of the year! It’s in downtown Chicago!
My kids have been raised on it❤️
Just watched it for the first time with my two kids right now!
I have the DVD in my library
I used to watch this every Christmas in the 80's....Im 42 now
I am 52 years old and have watched it at least 3 times a year, every year since I was 6 years old.
For anyone who’s interested, Emmett Otter is playing live in downtown Chicago until the end of the year (2023)! It is Jim henson’s actual studio too!
that's awesome :)
I just saw that on NBC5, which made me come here to watch this! Haven't seen it in years.
Does Disney still have creative control of this aspect of Henson's output? I'd wait in line to join Tiana for this lovely trip up the river. Are all those robot critters just gathering dust in some Warehouse somewhere? What a pity if so...
Saw the show and also got to meet some of the puppeteers and puppets 🩷

I’m 46 and “From the River to the Sea” still turns me into a blubbering mess.
I'm 54 and when I watch it I do what I did as a kid put the TV on the floor grab the blanket and pillow and lay on the floor only now I just have 2 dogs that'll lay beside me
One of my all time favorites!! Watched it with my daughter & continue to watch it! I’m 65!
Nightmare Band rocks!!
I remember loving this when it was shown the first time. I'm much older, and still love it today, December 2023. Merry Christmas y'all. 🇺🇸⚔️🇬🇪
My dad was a kid when this came out and fun fact this is my aunt’s favorite Christmas special I do remember watching it on DVD once when I was small
This is the best movie ever made.❤
W opinion
RIVERBOTTOM NIGHTMARE RULES! THEY WERE THE ORIGINAL ROCK NIGHTMARE, ALWAYS AND FOREVER!
Every year I get to watch this. And every year it makes me sad to think that we don't have Jim Henson The mastermind of the Muppets. I was always a fan of his work.
I’m still a fan at 49 years old.
His daughter is carrying on the Henson legacy.
She created some wonderful puppets for GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S PINOCCHIO.
I enjoyed the movie in the theater last year. Rewatched again recently on home video.
I like to think they let him remodel and run Children's Heaven. Probably with input from the guy who played Big Bird.
His son Brian does a pretty good job of continuing the legacy
...and Frank Oz...
I was working as the master cameraman on this awesome
You were part of something incredibly special. Thank you!
😂👌
Bs😂
LOVE Wendell Porcupine and the quills that stick up through
his warm winter coat!! LOL so cute! Classic Christmas Show!

Doc Bullfrog knew what time it was.
The River-bottom Nightmare Band are rude jerks - but they do rock. This special is one of my favorites!
Though Nightmare Band is hard rock I always thought the bear looks like Elton John turned into a bear. Makes me giggle.
We don't wish to learn, but we hate what we can't understaaaaaaand.... RIVERBOTTOM NIGHTMARE BAND!!!!!
They're so cute !
I have to say that’s a great band name though

I watch every single one those classics every year and multiple times. I’m 49 years old and I’ll probably watch until I die.
I'm 52 (I say 49 again)and yes I watch the classics every year 🎄 I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🥂

I grew up watching this every year at Christmastime 💗
Same
Something magical about watching this with the tree all lit up right next to the TV
I used to watch this all the time as a kid. I have the DVD still. Such an underrated classic
"Look at the birds up in the tree"
"We're not birds we're a jugband"!
Favorite Christmas movie as a kid!
"The grass does not grow
On the places where we stop and stand..."
😂
@@IONAPINKMOXIE "We have no respect for animal birdie or fish!" Hee
He makes "We're not birds!" sound bad-ass LOL. Almost like Bruce Lee saying, "We are NOT sick men."
My favorite Muppet production ever. 💚
This movie is bringing back my childhood memories.😂😂😂 Bring me back like a kid again being a kid again.
This is the best

Such a sweet little gem for the holidays. I still enjoy watching it every Christmas season. Definitely worth watching more than once.

This brings back such good Christmas memories
It’s one thing to make Muppet characters ride bikes, it’s another that they made this whole little town small to size for all those characters. If only they could do something like this again.
Love this show... Jim Henson's was the best on this one
Jim Henson had all of the old shows and movies.
Love this movie.
One of the best Christmas movies ever. 😊
My childhood!!!
This randomly popped up in my feed. I watch all the old christmas specials in Dec every year but this is the first time I ever heard of this special.
Jim was a real genius for creating these amazing characters and continue his masterpiece legacy a true iconic Disney legend and a really good actor aka the original Kermit the frog aka Jim Henson RIP
This was good storytelling compared to what is out there today.
Jesus-Jim Henson is forever beyond brilliant!
Words simply don’t do this masterpiece nor Henson enough justice!!!!
My teacher showed this because we were learning about theme, and loved it, so I watched it again!
Mind-blowing that the arm inside Ma is also the arm inside (and the voice of) Yoda. Kids of my generation were so blessed. :)
I really loved this. It brings back a lot of memories.
This movie is so charming, I love those bad guys , they're all so cute!
Yancey Woodchuck, eat your heart out! I prefer Emmet Otter's Jugband's version of "Barbecue!"
i am ur friend for life for this upload. Thanks a washtub!
Yes, it's nice to see it on here for free. It seems like they charge for just about anything these days.
With the state this country is in right now we need a video like this. The words, songs and message really hits home. So sad there is so much hate in the world. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I remember watching in 1986.
My grandma bought this for me on VHS and I watched all the time even after it started skipping
Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone! They don't make quality stuff like this anymore.
I was 14 when I first watched this delightful Christmas tale. I am almost 61 and I have watched it every December since I discovered UA-cam. Merry Christmas to everyone!!

I’ve always wanted to watch this movie. As a kid I had the frog prince on vhs and this movie had a trailer at the start.
THIS MOVIE WAS EVERYTHINGGG !
Aaaaww,it IS a masterpiece!!!
Epic.
I can’t believe they omitted the scenes with Kermit the frog.
Probably a licensing issue.

I wish I had found this earlier than just last year. I was born in 75 and somehow never knew this existed, I love Jim Hensons films and creations.
Always makes me cry
Mine have. They are now17 and 12, and watch it every year.
So good!
This movie is a true Christmas classic. The late Jim Henson was a true puppet master. I love the songs and characters, but I hate those rude hoodlums.
