Speaking for myself I want zero engine sound cruising. I've rode HD's my entire life and have had everything from Screaming Eagles to Fish Tails and now that I'm forced to ride a 3 wheeler I realize I just wanna yap with the wife and not yell. Of course I miss the thunder through a tunnel but HD's haven't had the right THUMP for years,,,,which I guess is a good thing for high mileage riders but something the younger riders will never experience with today's HD's ..
I like the stock sound on it, now I’m 55. My son’s low rider has strait pipes, I couldn’t help but burp it and be reckless lol. Turned me into a 20 years old again. I’m going to baby my $40,000 trike. I’ll kill my self on his lol.
We figured it was a cheap easy way to be heard around other motorists… We ended up putting exhaust later once my friend was able to buy aftermarket mufflers…
The only problem is reverberations that drop your mid range torque to where that thing will fall flat on its face. Something that can help that some what is using a thumb screw instead the exhaust approximately 2 - 3" in and have the larger part of the pad of the thumb screw facing front to rear. Just a word of advice. Washers and all that other stuff is useless and looks even worse in there since you're not getting the same diameter/circumference of flat surface.
Does your Trike still pass state inspection, still street legal? I have a 2014 HD Trike with screaming eagle pipes (willed to me after my dad passed) and my 2015 HD Trike with stock pipes. Wife likes the pipes on my 2014 and wants me to upgrade to louder pipes (got to luv her for wanting to more noise!!). I have been researching having HD pipe upgrade but not wanting to really spend a shit ton (as everything from HD costs) and i see that certain pipes mean i need to have the ECM calibrated also.
I did that to mine. I loved it at first but after 4500 miles and realizing you never get a break from the loudness, I decided to go with something that will at least quiet down some at cruising rpms. Can’t beat free though, it was a great idea. Just a bit much for me.

Was anything done for back pressure after modified? Need to or just leave as is??
