    Another of the most Beautiful Ferrari's ever...Wow, nice ride along, always understanding this car couldn't be thrashed around the track...no full out racing a fine rare car like that, still a nice ride ! Nice !

    Spa last weekend was terrific. This is great footage and a skilled driving display from Mr Knapfield - thanks for posting.
    All that's missing from the scene are a pair of 917 backends and the view of Siffert and Rodriguez trying to wipe each other out!

    Che coraggio! Mettere in pista questi gioielli dal valore inestimabile che se ne avessi uno io lo metterei dentro casa stando ben attento che gli amici dei ragazzi non lo graffiassero

    I bet Jackie Ickx didn't have to foot the bill when the car went backwards into a wall... It's awesome to see an owner punting a classic racecar around a track at any speed instead of letting it gather dust in a garage like so many do.

    Thank You!
    A pity someone couldn't have put Tony and Sam in their 512M for Le Mans, 2011.
    Porsche sure had their people in their 917's.
    Ferrari can be short sighted, even without the Old Man.
    If Chinetti were alive, it might have happened.
    Ferrari needs to come back to Le Mans.
    1965 is a long time ago.
    Leave F-1 and the "Tifiosi" we don't need them.
    IMHO
    I attended Sebring 12 and Daytona 24, 1964 -1972.

    Forza Ferrari!

    This specific 512 M car was rebuilt into a Can Am series car and engine capacity increased to nearly 7 litres and was damaged when it spun off the track into a ditch with debri into the air intakes and retired while in 4th position.

      So is this a 7 lt. engine sound being recorded ?
      Or was it possibly reconverted to the original 5 lt.
      displacement ?

    I don' t think Jacky Ickx ever drove a Ferrari 512 M. When they participate, in 1971, Ickx was already driving a Ferrari 312 PB.

    • @375GTB
      @375GTB 9 років тому

      Look up:
      World Sports Car Championship, 1971.
      Ickx came on big in 1972, in the PB.
      He and Andretti won most of the races.
      But no Le Mans.
      The engine was not thought up to it.
      They almost won in '73..
      Then were just to old..
      Funny thing the NART 312P Spyder didn't do to bad in the races entered.
      I saw it leaking fuel at Daytona.
      The T312 V-12 was fine for 24 hours..
      Had more main bearings.
      More short sightedness for The Old Man.
      LIKE the argument with John Surtees.
      Enzo could be his own worst enemy…
      Was exasperating, to some of us..
      I VERY MUCH cared…
      Still DO!
      J.C.

      epmgc2
      Not the point.
      Though Jacky still drives in Historic events.
      SEFAC only raced 512s in 1970.
      Winning Sebring, with Andretti...
      SEFAC turned the cars over to the independents for 1971,
      to develop the 312PB over that year, as at Sebring.
      Ickx, of course, started wining in the car, 1972.

    • @carlocaroni
      @carlocaroni 7 років тому

      Ickx and Giunti drove the first 512M at 6hours of Zeltweg in 1970 leading the race for almost 4 hours and at the 1000km.of Kyalami.in '71 the car was not raced by the Scuderia but only by private teams(Penske,Filipinetti,escuderia Montjuich..)

    • @fanienagel2316
      @fanienagel2316 6 років тому +1

      Ickx was a Ferrari factory driver with this car when him and Guinti won the 9hours at Kyalami 1970...I was there and very fortunate..!!

    I'm so used to hearing high reving engines,this sounds unbelievably slow! Long stroke motor?

    • @patsematary
      @patsematary 4 роки тому

      It was a 5 litres high displacement engine , over 600 cv at a remarkable 9000 rpm conceived mainly for endurance races ...I also think the driver was advised “not to push “ that unique vintage engine...

    • @INDIGOBLUE555
      @INDIGOBLUE555 Рік тому

      @@patsematary Yes, the driver wisely
      does pay attention to preserve the integrity
      of the mechanics. I guess he is revving it up to
      a safe 5500/6000 rpm.

    Sebring 1971
    DNF 25 Mario Andretti/Jacky Ickx Ferrari 312PB [0878] Spa Ferrari SEFAC 117 laps Gearbox
    Grid pos.: 2 @ 2m32.47.. Prototype 3000
    Ickx first endurance race for Ferrari was in the PB.
    Arturo Mezario DIED in Argentina, in the first PB, crashing into the back a Matra that was crawling along in the dark.
    No TIME to build one up for Daytona, '71...
    And the Boxer's main bearings were really only good for about 10 hours.
    Or so the old Man said.
    Though they lasted for 24 in 1973....
    Burt were by then getting old, aero wise...

    • @Cash2112
      @Cash2112 8 років тому +1

      Arturo Mezario is still ALIVE and kicking. One of his claims to fame is pulling Niki Lauda out of his burning Ferrari F1 car at Nurburgring in 1976.

    • @375GTB

      +Cash2112
      I got Arturo mixed up with Ignazio Giunti...
      Who died in that collision with the crawling Matra 630, Argentine 1000Km, of that year.
      A sad day for Ferrari and the sport.
      Mezario was one of the team members of that day.
      I remember him be good at the Targa Florio and Nurburgring.
      Saw him race at the Sebring 12 and Daytona 24 hours.
      I think he went over to the Tipo 33 ALFAs, when Ferrari withdrew from endurance racing.

      Someone put a tape marker on the rpm gauge on how high he was allowed to go, so he idled around the Spa. Moreover, he was very busy with the helmet visor.
