Great tour! Loved the furnishings & love the decorating style. Using period pieces is the way to go! Definitely would choose a farm house sink. Hope they sell for what thier asking quickly! They have a remarkable property!
Gorgeous house. I like how the owners have made a good balance between "period correct" and choices that are comfortable for the way we live now. I'm sure that owners through the years made a lot of changes, as you said. The room off of the bedroom was probably originally a nursery. As for the sink, I like the industrial vibe of the stainless steel sink, but agree that a farmhouse sink would be more in keeping with the overall look. The kitchen is great, though, other than that. And that one spindly legged bathroom vanity looks roughly 1890-1900 to me. It must have been fun putting plumbing and HVAC in this house when those became available.
I like exposed brick on fireplaces. That flooring is old. I raised my kids in two revolutionary war era homes in upstate New York and uneven widths of floorboards are common. Some flooring boards in my homes were 12-13 inches in width.
The kitchen I would change to natural stained cabinets with soap stone in a hoaned finish on the side where the granite is since it's a stone you might have found in a kitchen around this time and a farmhouse sink.
There seems to be a lot of room downstairs and I would like to have seen the kitchen where the cooking fireplace was and the dining room where the kitchen was. Like the brick left natural. But love this house. Another good one, thx.
Having grown up in California, I find houses like this fascinating. Anything near this old would have been made of adobe brick, and long gone. This one seems quite large, with higher ceilings than some I've seen in pictures of other homes, that can look dark and pokey. It has an open feel that I like, without modern things like skylights or picture windows. The decor is spot on. I agree, though, about the commercial-looking metal sink. A 'stone' one would be perfect. I believe this style is called 'salt box'. Nice low-key narration. Enjoyed the visit. :)
I have a two basin two drainboard restaurant sink similar to the one in this house. However we built it in, so it sits in our homemade cabinetry just fine; this way of course it is supported by the cabinetry and the legs are not necessary. Also ours is seems to be deeper from to back as it fits nicely into our 2' deep countertops which of course are all wood we sandwiched together. We did the same in our frugal frau downstairs kitchen with a single basin and drainboard restaurant sink.
I would redo the first bathroom with the more modern white and laminate countertops. Also the bedroom with the grey painted floors and Red doors and Walls would have to be totally redone.
The" guest bedroom" without it being very creatures of comfort looks like a maid chamber, with it being up at top floor that would be my guess.. Love this house . Love the colors.. The dining room was very well done..I would not change it
I would actually contest that much of the flooring is actually original. (Not in the first room) Although it would be more definitive if we could see it from the underside or a closer examination of the molding. The inconsistent width of flooring in the more private sections of the house seems common while the widest planks would be used in the public spaces to show off as well as display a political statement. The wide planks that you have determined to be original are also a sign of protest and patriotism ...quite common in pre-revolutionary New England. King George deemed that the colonists could only use short width soft pine for their building needs, as the British Navy demanded all straight wide hardwood to be used for the sole purpose of export for British Navy ship masts. So in protest colonists used as much large gage hardwood as they possibly could to thwart the crown.
In Falmouth, Maine, there was a lot of talk about saving a 1750s Cape in the way of the new High school but it was demolished, nothing saved. Your sensitivity helps!
@@CPAndy-x5x they could have. They can move anything. I've seen lighthouses be picked up and moved back to keep them from falling into the ocean. But it was in the way of a government make work project and was likely stolen by the local government via eminent domain. The crushing boot of bureaucracy always wins.
The house is lovely, however, I think the kitchen does not fit the house, too cottage-y. Furniture placement could be better, otherwise, a beautiful house.

Bathroom sink with legs isn't a vanity, vanity is wood cabinet a sink sits in or on.

I’m not sure the floor has been replaced. It certainly is random width flooring. Admittedly there is not much evidence of wear .
You must not be a baker. The stone provides the cold required for many baking recipes 😊!

Designers these days who do renovations ALWAYS paint the fireplace bricks! That annoys me as I like to see the bricks unpainted.
