And to be published your papers have to agree with the peers. Because instead of showing why your writing is wrong, they just deny it now. With the fear of a national registry and the ATF in general, id say theres a lot of people who arent willing to admit to a stranger asking for gun data that they own a gun.

I taught college level for 20 years and kept my political and personal life under lock. I kept my mouth shut when all of my colleagues would rant about conservatives. It was a hostile environment.
Scholars ought not be “pro” or “anti” anything. It’s their duty to first collect data, then analyze it. creating a theory and proposing a solution are the LAST steps - not the first.

In the other direction,a few years ago a UC Davis professor submitted a report that the state used write a law too force farmers all over California to replace all older diesel engines and generators used in agriculture for irrigation and other agricultural related tasks. In the middle of passing the law it was discovered that the professor that haded the study had greatly exaggerated his credentials, including his Doctorate. But the legislation was too important to stop even though the report was tainted.forcing farmers to foot the bill.

I remember when a study was published about the spread of transsexualism among teens. The author thought she was being helpful to that community by showing how if one person in a friend group "came out" others would often follow suit. Or as some headlines put it "Trans is trendy". Those opposed to LGBTetc. ideology took it as evidence that being trans was made up, which they already believed. So the LGBTetc. community convinced the author (and supporting university) to retract the study so that it couldn't be interpreted that way. Anything that isn't 100% supportive of the ideology is heresy punishable by death, because leftism is a religion. They are not science friendly.

A question of law presents itself: Is publishing a research study for public consumption considered to be a freedom of the press under the1st Amendment? If so, then does he have a 18 U.S. Code § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law standing, with states' AG's repeated use of subpoena powers preventing him from his right to research and publish?

As a student at KU, I took a class on statistics and political science. I collected the data from the 100 largest cities in the US. I showed a correlation between race and violent crime. Cities having a large black population having more crime. Didn’t look for causation, that was not the assignment. They gave me an A but did not want me to produce the finished product for class. Strange.

The presence and display of the firearm being sufficient to prevent violence does not surprise me. One of the techniques I was taught 50 years ago to avoid violence with a violent person was the presentation of the image of overwhelming force. In the context where I was taught, that could be five calm men lined up in front of the troublesome person. This is old, trusted and respected research. If standing behind a gun is required, I recommend a very casual, in control and relaxed manner. Not winding up the violent person with your hysteria is especially important if the potential threat is mentally ill. It saved me once. The felon was unharmed and jailed afterwards.
