My grandmother used to live in Longstone, not far from Monsal Dale. I loved playing and exploring all around there as a kid, even up on the viaduct way before it became a trail. Her grandfather was 'station master' (as he told me) at Monsal Dale station until it closed about 1965, he retired then in his mid 70s! He was not actually a station master, just a porter, but being the only railway employee there it counted as station master.
