- Deputy LaToya Barnett began her career with the Harris County Sheriff’s office in 2006 after years as a stay-at-home mom raising her son and daughter. She started as a detention officer at the Inmate Processing Center. Five years ago, she became a Patrol Deputy in District 1.
"My favorite part of this job is just being helpful, helping people, showing officers in a different light. We don’t only arrest bad people but we also help people and we make sure that they’re ok,” said Barnett.

She punched a handcuffed drug dealer/rapper in the face while other officers were trying to force him to be fingerprinted. He did elbow her in the face while she was trying to get the print.
