IS DOING PMP WORTH OR NOT ?

- Are you considering getting your PMP certification but wondering if it's the right move for your career? In this insightful video, our lead trainer, Gautham Sudakar, shares his valuable experience and advice on when and why you should pursue PMP certification.
In a rather straightforward approach Gautham starts by addressing a common misconception: getting PMP certified doesn't guarantee an instant promotion, salary hike, or a new project management job. He shares a real-life experience where someone he helped clear the PMP exam lacked practical project management knowledge.
To emphasize the importance of practical experience, Gautham discusses conversations with his successful students Deepak and Kim who secured new jobs or were able to apply their knowledge shortly after obtaining their PMP certifications. They attribute their success not just to the certification itself but also to the knowledge gained during our PMP bootcamp.
Gautham's message is clear: PMP certification is not just a three-letter acronym to put on your resume. It's about gaining real-world project management expertise and understanding the field deeply. Before pursuing PMP, ask yourself why you want it. If your goal isn't to acquire knowledge and improve your project management skills, it might not be the right choice. Otherwise you will end up damaging your reputation and PMP’s credibility.
Watch this video to gain valuable insights from Gautham Sudakar and make an informed decision about when to pursue your PMP certification. Don't just chase the certificate; focus on becoming a better project manager through genuine knowledge and experience.

I feel the same about the PMP as I do about a college degree. Nobody gets a promotion without experience; certifications and degrees are just bonuses that help us get promoted faster. I ell my younger coworkers, "Go to work every day and make good impressions." That's how you get promoted.
Degrees and certs don’t really show anything except this, that you can achieve a designated standard. The journey is the real benefit in obtaining degrees and certifications, in my opinion that’s where the knowledge is really obtained. Now I know that doesn’t seem like much or a high bar to aim for, but most applicants can’t hit the minimum standard that employers are asking for and their resume doesn’t make the interview cut. Making good impressions works, making an impact is better for promotion especially if you’ve done the work and can show “cause and effect” in regards to the result.
I agree with you!. Only when you are doing your everyday work effectively, people will trust you and give you additional responsibilities. But when you are acquiring knowledge by doing any certifications, you can do your everyday work better by applying the knowledge in practice. That's my take!.

Thanks, Gautham for the Valuable information and yes indeed the Goal must be Gaining Knowledge !
Absolutely !!
Gautham
Gautham, I believe you summarized the topic very well period having a piece of paper that allows you to put an acronym after your name does not mean you have acquired the knowledge
to be an effective project manager.
Thanks for resonating my thoughts Stephanie!

Hi Gautham, right on spot. Your opinion is not limited to PMP but also applies to many other professional certifications like PMP. A certification earned with no knowledge it is suppose to signify or uphold of has a value no more than a piece of paper.
100% agreed Deepak

Gautham
This is not true for a lot of companies. I got my PMP and got promoted as Sr project manager required a PMP at my company. Also, if all the PMs I work with has PMPs, is the one I am working without one still as good? This is what clients think. Also shows dedication to your job and career.
Congratulations on your promotion buddy. I'm so happy for you and I'm super happy to hear PMP helped you.
Let me share my thoughts on your opinion, You must be a damn good project manager, you would have contributed to your company excellently in your previous role. This means your company would have a great opinion of you. Because of the opinion and along with PMP(booster) they would have promoted you.
Let's take an example, Just assume I'm your reportee and I'm a project manager, Consider I'm not doing my job well, but I got my PMP. Will you promote me to Sr. Project Manager position? I would say you won't promote me.
If I do my current job well along with PMP certification(booster) you may promote me. If I want to do my job well, I should apply all the knowledge I gained while I'm studying for PMP in practice. KNOWLEGE IS POWER!
Hope I was able to communicate to you what I wanted to say. Open to feedback
Gautham
I guess it depends on the company. If after your performance evaluation your boss says, "you should improve you PM knowledge" , then that should be a clue to get PMP certified in order to meet your performance objectives. This may not be the case for all companies or organizations. But knowledge is power and it could work to your advantage. This is very true in the IT industry. Acquiring knowledge + certification = competitive high performer.
The best sales consultant in my company doesn't get the same level of increments etc just cos he doesn't have the certifications the other have. Imo a certification opens more opportunities and also you get to sell yourself better in an interview.
@@jerrychandra9901 That is so true. That is why we always say to our students to focus on students than just preparing and passing an exam

I personally studied for three months in preparing for the PMP exam. And I was successful in passing the exam last year. For me, I have been working in project management for over 15 + plus years. So a lot of the material was familiar to me ; like risks and issues, requirements development, procurements/contracts, ect.
I did gain good knowledge that is applicable in my field/job. So to me, taking the PMP was worth it. Again, the exam is not easy and its a long exam. Got to be honest with yourself on why you need to have a PMP. I like project management and the tools that are provided from PMI.
You nailed it. This is exactly how everyone should think. Thank you for sharing your view. It is aptly stated. Loved it

It is not about only PMP certification, but it is for every certification. People take certification by using dumps, simulators & no knowledge. Though many get the job based on that also but they make other people's life in company a hell.
Normal management can be done using common sense & such certifications' knowledge majorly add new words in your vocabulary to showcase your expertise & sure one gets knowledge about other processes which can be helpful.
But, PMP with no common sense doesn't make you a manager but a pain in a** for others.
And we all know, industry is full of such managers.
This should be true for all certification exams.
Agreed !!

I have no experience in project management. Am I eligible for pmp?
Can you please send me an email at gautham.sudakar@eduhubspot.com so I will guide you accordingly ?
Gautham
No. PMI says you need to have minimum years of project management experience before taking the exam. When you complete the application, it provides you with specific criteria to check your eligibility. This is for your own good because there is a lot terminology and processes you need to be familiar with and have the practical experience in order to understand how to implement and execute projects successfully.
@@bootcampragLot of people have a misconception that in order for them to be eligible for PMP, their title should be project manager. If somebody says they have no project management experience or are not sure whether they possess or not, we look at their resume first and then guide them whether they are eligible or not. You are absolutely correct about the eligibility criteria but we don’t want to jump on the conclusion until we discuss with students about their professional background
please advise me about pmp

Thanks for sharing your views !!
Gautham
Absolutely. 95 percent of the PM jobs on the job boards are asking for a PM certification. It is way more valuable than any of the micro-certifications. This quibbling dope doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. Passing that 4 hour, 200 question exam tells employers that you have what it takes.
If only the best managers are pmp certified 😅 not true !! Just a false standard that is being set . Experience always outweighs amy certification!!
