When the bomb squad guy blew up I had a tear in my eye. You go from thinking he's a jack ass to really liking the guy in a short, short time. I REALLY liked that guy and love his acting.
His name is Kyle Chandler and he is a fantastic actor! He is known for many roles but probably the most is his role as Coach Eric Taylor on the show called Friday Night Lights which aired from 2006-2011). Funny enough this episode of Grey’s Anatomy aired in early 2006 and Friday Night Lights premiered in the fall of that same year.
The plot twist no one saw coming. It's a shame really...other than Derek, Meredith had great chemistry with bomb guy. Would've made hell of a love story.
Dylan was the only death that Shonda regretted. I am with her. He only played in 2 episodes but damn it I love the guy! Easily, him and Denny are tied for my vote to be brought back to life. Lol
Trish E. She doesn’t deserve a slap she doesn’t deserve a Pat on the back either but this girls life has barely begun and she freaking out, she had her hand in a bomb for hours, the only other person there who was pumping the ambu bag left her she was reasonably panicked and overwhelmed. It was incredibly selfish was she did but also very understandable.
that was a stunt double but yes she ended up with a concussion so they had meredith do it but slower. then they ended up just using the clip of the stunt double getting a concussion😂
I remember watching this episode and at first i was like “dang, he’s hot! Ooo new SHIP”, then out of nowhere the bomb goes off and i was just like 😶, why??? 🥺
And this was the moment that I fell in love with this show. They actually dared to show a man blow up in a fiery explosion right in front of the main character. Well done Shonda, most writers wouldn't have dared this shot. Well done.
i still cannot believe that after this everything went back to normal, mer (and the others in the or) experienced something so traumatizing but there is nothing done about it
It’s called plot armor. When you put certain characters in insane situations that should and would end badly but they come out easily it’s just bad writing.
Maybe. But at the start of the bomb two parter, George was having a fantasy of the girls in the shower but when he saw the reality of things at the end of the bomb story, he realized the truth was not what he thought and he did not want to intrude on the girls helping Meredith who was in shock among other things. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. But that was just a beautiful scene. Where Izzie and Cristina were helping their friend.
No matter how many times I see this episode it is as impactful as the first time. And it guts me everytime that after everything, he ended up getting blown up! 💔
camryn gamble it was designed so if you’re within the blast zone it won’t kill you with shrapnel and may redirect some energy. But when you’re standing or in this case holding the bomb, you’re dead anyways. That’s why most bomb squads don’t go in person unless all other options are exhausted
nothing could ever prepare me for how this episode ended. i was in absolute shock when I first watched it like holy shit? just like that? music stops and there's the pink dust they talked about.
its like she is getting baptised in the end. relief to have survived, but having survivors guilt... "you did good".... is a phrase that from now on, may cause her to cry for the memory... but also to celebrate her own life, and that of everyone else in the er who survived, because of her and because another took that bomb away. even if it took his life shortly after... they did good.
Not gonna lie, when I saw this scene I laughed because all that with the feel good music and making everyone think all was well and then BAM it explodes.
Comedy and horror have the same formula for set-up (set up the expectation and abruptly show a reality) so it makes sense that despite the horror you would laugh. That's why horror directors can make good comedy directors too.
My husband was in Iraq when this aired. My best friend’s husband was in Iraq as well. It was a time of heavy bombing in Baghdad. The minute this episode ended she called me sobbing into the phone and we both cried and cried and cried over this episode but we were really crying for our husbands and what this episode made us think of.
He was her true love. Even through the breakups she still loved him. Remember the episode where mer gives him the “pick me, choose me, love me” monologue?
When people mention “angels” they meet as nurses. The last moment of the scene fully encapsulated that. They are like angels the way they gently and compassionately clean you and bandage your wounds, and they show such gentle kindness.
Why didn't the bomb squad (which, btw, should have come in a full body armour, including helmets) bring and use one of those blast containment bins? The amo could have been deposed there right after being taken out of the patient.... Also, at the end, why isn't Meredith getting evaluated first and treated, BEFORE shower? She was caught in the blast!
Cuz a bazooka round is way too big for one of those bins. They are meant for smaller bombs. You actually make the explosive more powerful if you confine it because the force would be applied In a smaller area. As for helmets and other gear and such, it's basically useless when the bomb is that close. All it would have done was limit movement. Even if he didn't get hit by shrapnel or caught in the explosion, the concussive blast would have killed him by rupturing his organs internally.
he would've blown up either way no matter how much protective gear he wore. He was literally holding the bomb it wouldn't have mattered. And as for the containment bin thing, it looked like he was walking towards a guy holding one of those.
Me three. I was thinking when I first saw it that Mer would would finally be at peace about her Derek breakup and Dylan would turn out to be her true love and she would be happy.
this was the best episode in the whole series. i loved the bomb guy and they had amazing chemistry. i would've preferred him as a love interest to her over finn.
My partner and I were joking when we watched it that they’d hear a boom down the corridor as the bomb was being carried out, and then it actually happened and we were in shock!
My expected ending of this episode: Meredith was a few walks away from the explosion so she had a few wounds and a head concussion, Derek found out and he was panicking and super concerned, then Addison noticed it, they talked abt it and decided to get a divorce and then Meredith and Derek would be together again and strt over BUT THIS PLOT TWIST IS EVERYTHING
Unrealistic, they would have had the bomb container nearby and those guys would have been wearing a better suit that would have covered their heads and easily managed the explosion.
It’s good to know that there’s more safety protocols irl because I always questioned how he was supposed to walk all of the way out holding the bomb like that
Everytime I watch that scene I can practically hear Christina screaming Meredith’s name when she hears the bomb go off. You know she would have made a dash for her girl
*carrying the explosive* "hey Tom let's get bomb sandwiches after this" "shiiiiiet Rogers you're the bom" *explosion* my intrusive thoughts are just 🤣🤌🏾 that last scene got me though 😔

Amen to that. I would be willing to do a lot of different stunts, but not a stunt like that. Ellen is braver than me. The stunt person actually got hurt and that’s why she had to do it, but I was like dude, you are the star of the show, you are an autonomous person.
