Great tutorial. I only got lost for a second trying to figure out whey I couldn't see the curve in edit mode around the 2:30 mark. Future people reading this, make sure the "edit mode" button on the modifier is selected so you can see the object curved while also seeing the vertices the way it looks in the video.
This was absolutely perfect, thank you. Super informative and very easy to follow. I got slightly stuck around 9.12 with the proportional editing until I realised the brush size I was using was too big so made a great model of a ring and learnt something new as well, thank you 🙂

Hello, greetings from Argentina! I have a question. At minute 11:28 you say that to solve the accumulation of vertices we have to write "merge by distance" but I touch the space bar and nothing opens to be able to write
how do you edit the verticles while the render is still showing the outcome, i wish to view the rings actual shape while seeing the outcome like at 6:40
when combining the circle to the ring with CTRL+J at around 7:00 in your video, the circle is moved below the ring and turned into a pringle/potato chip shape.
This might be because you haven't applied the curve modifier, as I did shortly before. If it is still active, the curve modifier will continue to deform all geometry, and also the newly joined circle on the top.
Hi there, thanks for the great tutorial! However, having a slightly harder time following as I am unable to see the ring shape along with the cube and adjust for preview in real time. I have to toggle between editing the original cube in edit mode and then switching to object mode to see the result of the changes. May I know if it's possible to correct this issue? Thank you for your help!
In the modifier properties (mirror/curve/subdivision here), make sure to select "edit mode", one of the buttons at the left of the tittle of the modifier, then it'll appear as you want to.
[ENG]Greetings, thank You for your efforts but at minute 04:16 my grid shape is not inclined in the upper edge and I do not understand why? Any Help? [DEU]Ich grüße Sie und danke Ihnen für Ihre Bemühungen, aber bei Minute 04:16 ist meine Gitterform am oberen Rand nicht geneigt und ich verstehe nicht, warum? Jede Hilfe?
Hi, i like your video. I would like you to make a video applying ornaments and explaining how to correctly join them to the ring to export it in stl. if you can explain the steps to follow and how to verify that the model is attached correctly and has the parameters to be printed. if you use any app to check for errors. thank you so much
Good idea, thanks so much for your comment! At the moment I have a super in-depth Skillshare course featuring the art of applying patterns to rings and connecting them: skl.sh/2RgByPw (one month trial is free)
Thank you for this great tutorial, it's super helpful! I do have one question though.. Around 09:30 you're selecting vertices and pressing F to close them with faces. With my ring, this doesn't do much. There's only like 10% of a face showing and it doesn't look good. I've tried to follow your steps closely, so I'm not sure where I went wrong. Any advice?
Help, I clicked shift+c and now my workspace is very zoomed out and i can't access the ring im working on anymore. What happened? anytime i use the x-y-z wheel, it zooms out again
I took a different approach. I apply the modifiers and selected the rim edge at the top and pressed F. I've also made some changes and rendered. I whish you could see. I posted a link here but I think UA-cam took it off.
Hello, amazed by your skills and like your playful style! May I ask, where did you learn Blender, it seems you have a very deep knowledge of the software? Would love to take the courses you took to get your knowledge!
The different looks in Edit mode can be achieved by clicking on the little square icon at the top, both of the mirror modifier and of the curve modifier.
@@PhialoDesign thank you very much, also i happened having trouble when using mirror clipping, when i move my vertices, sometimes the edges suddenly move and snap to one of the vertices
@@randomnumbers84269 Hi there, thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, without knowing how the rotation differs, it is hard to help with the problem. Have you checked the pivot point?
@@PhialoDesign I think the fact that you suddenly see a mix between object and edit mode. I also cannot see the ring (round) in edit mode, only as a strip (vertices). Never both at the same time. Great tutorial though
@@SteelFlange_ hey I found the answer! It was a problem for me as well, you need to hit edit mode in the curve modifier. There are four small icons near the curve modifier word so you need to turn on three of the them!!!!!!

I am using Shapeways (15% code: UG96S4), but the usual way is to create a casting mold, take or melt the print out depending on the technique, and pour in the molten metal. Afterwards, it needs to be cleaned and polished.
look up your local casting company (may not be in your town) send them your file and they will send it back to you in silver. Cut the spru off and file down even. Then all you have to do is sand, smooth and polish
Hello. having issues at 8:43 since when i select the verticies and extrude, it does not extend the mesh as im working and only the black outlines. so im unsure if the ring is still smooth. there is also no 'snapping' please help
I think you're in vertices mode.. So you've probably selected those two vertices and extruded those 2 vertices.. You should select edge mode on the top left side and extrude that edge
LG :) The question: which printer settings do I use? Answer: the printer settings are always dependent on the printer you are using. Those are not set in Blender. To print the file, you export it as an Stl. Before the printer can understand this file, you need to create a gcode with a slicer like Cura or Slic3r.
Question: How does the support structure look for such a ring? Answer: this also depends on printing settings, print material and the printer itself. The supports can be generated in the slicer software, as well. Ideally, the ring is tilted in such a way that important details are not behind support when printing, and I also always try to minimize the amount of supports needed in this way.
That's true, but in the end the placement on the vertices depends on how you want the ring to be shaped. So it is not a problem, whether you have those extra verts or not. If you want to get rid of any extra vertices without deleting, you can dissolve the edges/vertices.
