      Audience taste in movies changed after WW II...that, coupled with drastically falling revenues due to the advent of TV led the studios to cut way, way, back...then came the 60s and well, the less we think about that, the better.

    Dark Passage was on TCM today. Had to look it up again on UA-cam. I can imagine Bogie waiting for his Baby at a table just like this one in heaven. No, that wasn't acting, just two people so in love and crazy about each other. Watching them is a thing of beauty.

  • @hebneh
    @hebneh 8 років тому +25

    Knowing they were a couple in real life - and it shows, doesn't it? - adds wonderful emotion to this scene. This is especially true because throughout the entire film, Bogey's been unjustly accused and has suffered for it. Now, in the finale, he's beyond all that and he and Lauren are reunited.
    Although it doesn't appear here in this clip, as I recall, the couple in the bus to Arizona who sit down in front of him ("Aunt Mary" and the guy) have just met in the bus terminal. She's very lonely and this nice man starts to chat with her. It's implied that they too are going to be happy together, just as Bogey and Lauren are in the final shot.

      Bacall and Bogart cheated on eachother just like Hollywood couples today. They had a few years together before
      She was seeing Frank Sinatra and he was seeing his Mexican secretary.
      They are still my favorite couple but when I found out about that it disappointed me and tainted the Romantic notion I had about them.

      The ending seemed kind of weak. They should not have killed off Agnes Moorehead. Agnes gave the film a much needed lift and edge. After they shoved Agnes out the window we are back to just two people spouting sweet nothings into one another's ear.

    In real life, someone in Madge's situation would have never committed suicide, anyway the autopsy would have proven she had thrown herself from the window voluntarily, when someone gets pushed there is always some bruise on their back.
