is your buffing pad cotton ? i tried this method on mine same gas tank and it didnt work with a woolen buffing pad (it didnt get shiny and looked scratched...
You can use compound. I just used finer sand paper to get it smooth. At the buffing point all you need to do is polish the plastic. Some compounds are a little aggressive for the plastic and leaves swirl marks. Thanks for looking.
Ya a lot better. We used water as well. The wetter you keep the sand paper the less it clogges up. We soaked the orange towel for the water instead of a spray bottle.
I'm sorry bruh but the fact that you didn't take it off the frame and do the under side killed it for me. Probably just my OCD kicking in. Good theory though.
Nice work. I’ve refinished about 400 tanks since 14’ I’m glad it worked out for you, I’ve never been able to start with finer than 220 myself
Awesome job! I didn't expect those results! Twist the grip!!!
Pretty amazing results mate, well done
I gotta give this a try... turn out real nice for you.

You ever figure out why? Mines doing the same... just cloudy
@@patekMR because you listed to an idiot
Will it work on a white tank that's sun faded also?
Yes. Our tank was sun faded. Color shouldn't make much difference. Thanks for looking.
Awsome vid man👍
So 800 grit to get the oxidation off, do a second round to get rid of all oxidation, 1500 grit, then 2000 grit then buff with polishing pad.
Thats what it took in this one. You can go with 1000 or 1200 to get the oxidation off. Thanks for looking.
I got a YZ WR 250 hadn't had fuel in the the tank for awhile the tank cracked open after a day or so.. how to stop that happening again??
Acetone rinse inside and wipe down outside with acetone before sanding. Store with fuel - use non ethanol pump or race gas and it won’t go stale
did you sand in circular or straight lines? thanks.
I tried to do circular but there were spots I couldn't. Thanks for looking
Just started standing thought I better check UA-cam first thanks Man
Is your tank somewhat rough or pores? If so, did it smooth down because of the sanding?
Jeff Byrd it is smooth just like stock. the sanding takes off the rough parts. the buffer makes it shine again.
Thanks. I'm about to restore my black tank. I'm hoping it's black all the way through.
Jeff Byrd dit it work? I want to try this to
Why is it not ok to use compound please ?
You can use compound. I just used finer sand paper to get it smooth. At the buffing point all you need to do is polish the plastic. Some compounds are a little aggressive for the plastic and leaves swirl marks. Thanks for looking.
is the construction of the tank, polyethylene?
Not sure. It's the OEM Suzuki tank. Thanks for looking
OK, i have a DRZ as well but I have aftermarket tank on it. What year is your DRZ?
@@FlaminiusC should work the same with the aftermarket. It is a 2001.
@@Motoxindustries OK great, I will give it shot. Thanks!
Sanding with water does a better job. I tried it both ways, dry and wet.
Ya a lot better. We used water as well. The wetter you keep the sand paper the less it clogges up. We soaked the orange towel for the water instead of a spray bottle.
Good job btw! A little Maxima SC1 makes it really pop too!!

Hey buddy. We had it off but it was not faded under the tank. Most of the fading was from the sun. Thanks for looking.
