Thank you for sharing your invaluable knowledge. No, I don't have to go to a museum nor find archeologist to find out if my piece of pottery is authentic or fake.
Great tips, thank you. I just bought a "pre-columbian" tripod pot today at an estate sale and Im studying how to authenticate or find the correct region/ culture and estimate time period. Its been a fun process so far.
. jumo Thanks! We have more coming up, stay tuned. We'll continue our series on using your senses to authenticate but we also have plans to look at a how it's made series as well as a medium specific series. Hello, I've found AZTEC stuff in England and it's mostly micro art on stone and some of it is amazing and I want to know how I can prove it's Aztec, like what marks they sign on . I think I found a micro funerary temple. Is a funerary temple worth a lot of money?
Thank you for the video, very helpful. Worrisome to see how good the fakers have become with the Greek pottery plate. Can you tell something about the wet/smell/lick/ping tests on ancient pottery? Hope to see more videos.
This is amazing! I have mostly Native American points, but I recently purchased some pre-Colombian looking stuff. I’m struggling to identify. Teach me your ways lol!
Ive always wanted to get into ancient art collecting, but Im so OCD that Id never believe that what Im buying is real. I collect antique bottles, and dig for them in privies, I know what is and what is not antique 1700's to early 1900s glass and even ancient glass. But other than glass, say pottery, Id never be able to trust that what it is what they're saying it is is really what it is. The fakers are just too good. Fake antique bottles are super easy to spot, but fakers go to many distances to fake natural wear and mineral deposits there as well. But they can never replicate the feel of 1800s and whatnot glass.
