- John Edward Thaw, CBE (3rd January 1942 - 21st February 2002) was an English actor. He appeared in a range of television, stage, and cinema roles, his most popular being television series such as Inspector Morse, Redcap, The Sweeney, Home to Roost and Kavanagh QC.
Loved John Thaw, he was one of the greats, first class among the acting profession, the Sweeney, Morse, I especially loved Good Night Mr Tom, RIP John, thank you so much for the memories.
He was brilliant and versatile. I loved him in THE SWEENEY when I was a kid in the 1970's. My favourite role of his was when he was MORSE. A massive talent and will be missed. RIP JOHN THAW. X
I didn’t “meet” John Thaw until he was Inspector Morse but once I found him i tried never to miss anything he appeared in reruns included!
The last episode of "Morse" was a masterwork.
2019 in sincere respect for Mr. John Thaw. Inspector Morse really miss the show.
Explore Greer marvellous actor.

Thank you for this. My partner and I were only talking about Morse the other night, I still remember the scene of Morse's death and crying like a baby!

I can't watch The Remorseful Day, I find it too painful! I watched it at first broadcast, and once since, but it is too much! We have just lost Barrington Pheloung as well.
@@stuarthowarth2972 oh dear
John Thaw great actor very much missed
John Thaw was the best😁
Goodnight Mister Tom is so well done, John Thaw is fantastic, beautiful Film.
I just read today that Morse has been voted the greatest criminal drama of all time. W Foyle's War under the 21st century's belt, it must've come in second. Love both of them. Both great, distinguished.
mckavitt13 l like Foyles War, but l wish with all period dramas that they everything historically correct, but l loved John Thaw, as a little girl i'd watched The Sweeney
and i'm enjoying the re-runs of his programmes on ITV3 and ITV4
@@lsmith9249 I love John Thaw too, Sharon! In the Sweeney, ofc, & v much too as Kavanaugh. But as Morse most of all, irascible as he could be. His shy smile was a real winner. As were his intelligence & tenderness.
@UCg5CBWSxiedhk3x_GUv4Jig he died too young, l loved Goodnight Mr Tom too, i'm loving all the runs, but he could have done so much more
a national treasure
One of my favourite actors probably the favourite RIP
"We're the Sweeney son and we haven't had any dinner..."
I will always remember the series for that one phrase.
Red Squirrel: I'm rewatching The Sweeney on the ITV Hub. Made before I was born, but knocks spots off virtually anything made today. The Regan/Carter partnership was something special. RIP, John.
Too young. R.I.P.
I'm a Yank, a bit ignorant about John Thaw and am going to continue finding pieces that introduce me. Seeing the interviews and clips on this video causes me to especially look forward to the task.
Judith Hand: you will be in for a treat, he was brilliant in everything, The Sweeney, Inspector Morse, Kavanagh QC, even the sitcom Home To Roost. And the TV film Goodnight Mr Tom was really something very special. You'll find lots on UA-cam or Daily Motion.
Just love John Thaw and every thing he has done. I have spent some lovely evenings with him.xx
Dorothy Freel , I was going to write the exact same thing. Just loved the man.
Dorothy i have always admired John Thaws acting, and about 5 years ago was VERY suprised to discover he is a cousin of mine. A lovely evening with him would have been great!
Jack Regan r.i.p. you were the best. we loved the shows with carter. no one else can do it
MR TOM cry every time I watch it,loved him in every role he did, died to young lovely John thaw xxxxxxx
The boy from Manchester did good! Turned up at RADA for his interview dressed in his new suit...to his father's horror, a teddy boy suit! Starred in some of TV's greatest shows, during the golden age of television drama. Much missed!
Believable in all his roles even when worlds apart.
Isn’t Tom Courtenay adorable too?
John thaw one of the greats well missed by every one and I think the last one he done was good by mr Tom could not get better person to play mr Tom rest in peace John thaw god be with you all ways

My ringtone: Barrington Pheloung's Morse theme.
Never got to see his earlier work. Cool as “Morse”
Hr was awesome in the Sweeney.
A wonderful actor, much missed.
I also believe he was lucky to have Kevin Whately beside him!!
Miss John Thaw so much.
The blonde lady at 6:02 is Helen Keating - most famous for her photo on the cover of 10cc's masterpiece album, 'How Dare You'
Well spotted .
I recall "The Sweeny" being one of the first series shown in colour on Australian TV when colour began here in 1975. I also recall Thaw in a comedy series, "Thick As Thieves" I believe the title was, ironic he'd do a role like that in between Sweeny and Morse.
Dearest John wonderful🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Honourary Manc! God Bless him ! dx
John thaw one of the greats well missed by every one and I think the last one he done was good by mr Tom could not get better person to play mr Tom rest in peace John thaw god be with you all ways
His Sir Arthur Harris in the 1989 docu-drama was outstanding, amongst many other roles.
Reagan in the Sweeney, Morse and Kavanagh QC, what's not to like!
Oh, and Uncle Tom. Loved it!
Paul E repeats of Morse ITV3, Sweeney ITV4 and i'm sure it was Drama that has Kavanaugh QC

Great actor rubbish at marbles
R.I.P Mr John Edward Thaw love the guy.
True gent and master actor.
What a beautiful man god bless him❤️
One of most wonderful books I've ever read is Goodnight Mr Tom. In a former life as an English teacher, I had it on a GCSE reading list. I never imagined it could be made into a film, but then, in 1998, John Thaw came along and clearly understood the story and the main character so well that he created what I can only think of as the definitive screen interpretation. Actors have insights into characters and can create them for our entertainment. That takes more than just the talent and insight of a literary critic or screen writer. As well as that, it takes the extra factors of intense imagination, courage, and, in this case, the genuine genius of a really special actor. For me, that was John Thaw. Amazing man.
Can now add Barrington Pheloung to list of obits.
Debbie, well said. You are right.Good man too.
John Thaw a great loss to acting academy he bequived his wonderful acting ability to younger generation's.

Grew up with this man, you could just tell his greatness at a glance.

I clearly mind him from his first major TV role as Sgt. Mann of the Royal Military Police in "Redcap" - been a fan since.
OPINION:
JOHN THAW IS A GOOD ACTOR.
HIS SUSPENSE SERIES IS A GOOD ONE.
