I am fortunate enough to have inherited this exact guitar from Steve's family after his passing. It's a beautiful guitar and the tone is unreal. I'm grateful to have it and hope to keep it in my family for years to come.
That's darned good. Here's a message to you younger guys from a guy who has been playing guitar for over 40 years. Consider yourself extremely lucky to have these amazing guitars at such a low price. Don't think for a second that you're not getting the deal of the century cuz you literally are LOL back in the 70s when you bought a cheap guitar it was so bad it made you want to quit the guitar in the first place. UPDATE Dec 2022 I bought one of these based on Steve's video and many other videos and reviews. It's a fantastic guitar. Very inexpensive but it looks great, it plays solid and it sounds very nice. I will be taking Steve's advice on the bridge replacement but for now I actually really like the stock Roswell pup. Thanks for the great video Steve. And thanks to HB for offering great guitars at reasonable prices. Long live rock guitar!
Man you know it. 1976 1st guitar was a Encore Les Paul copy. $178. Horrible. Neck angle was boofed. Would not keep tune and I didn't know what to do back then to fix it. When I joined Navy I had a party with friends over. We drove a huge roofing nail through the center of each pickup and they sounded better. Kept the thing for years after and slowly worked on it but it was still garbage. Now for $177 you can get this thing and used PRS SE guitars, Sires, etc that blow what we had out of the water. Also bought one of these just before I watched this. Arrives in 4 days :) Best Regards and Best Wishes!
I've been playing guitar since about 98' and bass since 94' and you are 100% correct about finding such good quality NEW guitar's this cheap. Us older guy now get to reap those benefits as well 👍
Loved how the guitar cleaned up when backing off the volume a bit. That Lollar is feisty! Especially with that Golden Fleece. Nice upload!! Thanks Steve!! Uncle Larry would be proud!! 😁👍
Thank you for this information I just ordered a pelham Blue one and was looking for mod ideas for the price you can't go wrong on it seems on HB guitars.
The price of those shims is relatively high for what they are, I may 3D print some and sell on Ebay if it proves to be a financially viable enterprise, I have a few HB guitars now and have found an EQ pedal to be a good alternative to changing out the pickups
I keep seeing this sweet sounding demos and now I want one, my son and I bought two Greco Guitar's (LP & SG) and we were kinda like "we're not going back to budget guitars" but we don't have a P90 or double cut and Gibsons are really worth their price, also the shape of the HB is pretty spot on and the headstock isn't bad and for me a headstock is the make or break point many times. Thanks for the quality sound demo
i have a double cut kit i’m putting together and i have always loved the lollar pickup and when i saw this video i knew i had to get lollar high wind bridge pick up it sounds awesome but i kinda like the stock Roswell pick up too lol thank you for this review Steve
Cool vid, and nice playing and tones. I am going to be looking at one of these babies pretty soon. I don't have anything quite like this in my collection. Good stuff, and I LOVE Harley Benton guitars. I've got 4 or 5 of them - and I love them for the most part. Been very happy with them.
Hello Steve!! Great video and thank you for the information . I have the same guitar and put the same pickup. Change the wirings for a 50's wiring too. Sounds killer !! I'd replaced the bridge for a Wilkinson bridge, but I'm not very happy with it. I'd like get that Mojoaxe lighting bar, but I would like to know if it fits the measurements of this guitar. Possibly will change the nut too for a bone nut. Thank you very much!!!
Great mods and great Tone . I have nos gibson p90 i bought from mars music before they closed around '99 or 2k ? And just havent put it in my h.b. dc junior yet . Iove the dc junior it even came w polished frets but will change the cheesy tuners , my g string quick outta tune too . I also have the h.b. SC450GT gold top w gotoh delta 500 series its my #1 right now and love the stock bridge pup . Thanks for sharing 🌻
@@Joe-mz6dc when i install it i want a 3/16th spacer along w all dogear hardware hopefully will order from stew mac this week . I bought the p90 in soapbar form i think 23yrs ago the alnico 5s should be mellower by now the p'up never been played . gonna use a bumble bee .047 oil cap and replace vol an tone pots w full size american pots too along w klusion machines may go ahead and have screw holes show by installing the gotoh delta elite 21:1 machines like on my harley benton SC450P90GT gold top its become my number 1 since those machines better than the grovers on my lp standard
Really good demo, I had a real 55 (which I should never have sold) The acoustic thing happened about three and three on the volume tone. 50s wiring and VIP pots and its done I think
Nice job Steve. Sounds great. Simple and informative! I have found that when using a P90 is it sings best when the volume is at 9 and the tone is at 8.5.
Very informative content. This was a real education. I had to go and check what was available online. There's a FAT version which I was thinking looked like this model. Is the neck comfortable?
Sounds phenomenal. Which MojoAxe tailpiece is that? The 50's "offset" version or the zigzag raised 60's? Hard to see from the video because of resolution. I love your tone. I want to get the spacing right.
The new DC's come with a stacked p90 but that then isn't a p90 if you ask me... it's a kind of p90 with a kind of humbucker. The Lollar is rad.. worth every cent.
Hello Steve... Thank You for the video.. Did you use the MojoAxe model number CWT-A ? I’m thinking of putting one on my 61 Sg special.. m I have that same pick up in one of my Guitars and I really like it... Cheers
I just ordered the shims from Roswell. Guess they are fine too. Might even update Pickup as you did. Sounds very good. Nevertheless, Ill do that with a HB SG with only one P-90. You ,lost the SPLIT OPTION? Thanks for getting back.
Mine arrives Monday. Great tip on the shims and the Lightning bar! Just ordered from Lollar. Did you keep this guitar? If so, keep the Lollar or other? Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Bridge and nut should _always_ be changed on this guitar (the nut is of exceptionally poor quality). I honestly don't understand why you would need shims when the pole pieces can be adjusted! I have the FAT version, with the Roswell stacked P90, which is pretty decent.

That's so sweet.
That’s so sad he passed :( I just now discovered him ❤

The pickup makes all the difference in the world. (and probably the bridge mod) Really sounds GREAT !! (nice playing, Steve)
Thanks for the review, although a bit late .. sorry for the ones who loved you ...
Great little guitar. I mounted a SD Antiquity ii
Then that guitar came alive. Amazing
Loved how the guitar cleaned up when backing off the volume a bit. That Lollar is feisty! Especially with that Golden Fleece. Nice upload!! Thanks Steve!! Uncle Larry would be proud!! 😁👍
Best demo I have heard..you did a great job..thank you

Its a great guitar and yours sounds awesome. I like the stock setup as well.

Very noice I want to get this guitar for my daughter and wanted to work on it with her. That shim is where we're gonna start!
I got an Epiphone Junior a couple of months ago and bought the same spacer set. I used the plastic one also. I enjoyed your video.

Nicely done, Steve, thank you for posting!
Thats a nice guitar,, always been a fan of Harley Bentons.
Wow this clean is beautiful.
I need to say that I liked the stock pickup highs in your video. I probably prefer it to the Lollar
I really like that pickup you added. thank you
Upgrading is worth the money! If the guitar Holds good quality! I have Several Gibson and the cheaper ones isnt much better nowadays!
Great mods and great Tone .

I bet if you put that Gibson P-90 in there it's going to rip like there's no tomorrow.

The Rosswell P90 is sonically unique.
Sounds fantastic, great job
Both versions sound great tp me!

I like both Rosswell and Lollar P 90s. Buy two Harley Bentons and modify one.

Damn sounds real nice. !! Nice job !

Originally....Did your guitar have the push/pull facility on the tone pot ??
I'm interested in the fat dc model. Would you say it's manageable to install an additional p90?
great video steve!
Sounds good... 👍
can you tell us what mojoaxe exactly it is please?
Sounds great to me
Home skoolin!!
Great review!
is this the fat model? sounds great...
Great video
Mine arrives Monday. Great tip on the shims and the Lightning bar! Just ordered from Lollar. Did you keep this guitar? If so, keep the Lollar or other? Best Regards and Best Wishes!
you're guitar tone is great and well mic-ed...which mics did you use?
Did you change the volume pot? I did this mod , and not happy with the control
nice!
Wow sounds real nice, is it for sale?
thank you boss
What bridge do you have?
Hey. What replacement bridge did you go with?
Nice shirt.
Is that the fat neck version ?
Sounds great steve , how noisey is that lollar high wind ?
Does yours have a poly finish or is just stained wood?
It'd a very thin poly', lookds and feels exctly how nitro' would.
Bridge and nut should _always_ be changed on this guitar (the nut is of exceptionally poor quality). I honestly don't understand why you would need shims when the pole pieces can be adjusted! I have the FAT version, with the Roswell stacked P90, which is pretty decent.
What kind of amp is he using?...
Ps... hearing a lil Mr West as well !
Where did you order the shims?
They're on the Lollar site. It's one pack of a bunch of different thicknesses.
Did the Lollar shims work with the stock Roswell pickup or just the Lollar pickup?
