You should not confuse DC resistance with output volume. It depends on the gauge of wire used, as well as the number of turns in the coil. Other factors include the inductance and the type of magnets used.
I thought they were both good for different scenarios, but this was literally the only pickup shootout I have ever heard where I could actually hear a difference through youtube compression. Thanks
Been looking for an SG or Double cut, Single P90 guitar for a bit... Not an easy task for us Lefties... Though HB only offers the double cut version in TV yellow, they Do have the SG version in cherry red (IMO,The Only Correct Color of an SG) Harley Benton for the Win !!
Oh, i forgot... "rubert Sal" ... hahaha ... your subtitles are really funny! But because it's a serious thing to watch your videos to the end, here come the serious phrase for proving me being in the end of the video club: Rübezahl.
The second clip (no talking) is best for comparison, the hot p90 is definitely louder,fatter,.....but i prefer the Roswell one....at the end of the day,it's all personal preference ...

@@TheGuitarGeek just keep up the good work! I heard some music from the future and It was vomit on toast! Sorry, the original pickup wins. I'm afraid the new one sounds like someone trying to talk with mouthful of peanut butter. Love the channel. Keep up the good work.
Forget the coil impedance for a minute. Try measuring the output in millivolts the way DiMarzio does. The characteristics of the magnet and the physical mechanics of the bobbin etc. really matters a lot.
Yeah enjoyed the video I have the Harley Benton SC-550 Paradise Amber Flame Delux Series Les Paul but For years I've always wanted a Les Paul Jnr with a P90, so after watching your video might end up selling the Les Paul for the Jnr, for the money Harley Benton are great value for the money (ruebezahl).
The stock pick up sounds like a toy cheap, in first moment sound good but compared with the other woaaa, the other pick up make this guitar sounds like a Gibson!!!!
the original pickup sounds a little bright like a p90 is supposed to. The hot pickup sounds like it's trying to sound like a humbucker, no longer the P90 sound.
The original will cut better in a live mix. The new one has a little more low end. The Roswell stacked P90 has a unique sound. I own this guitar and a JA 60 OW. I have a large guitar collection so I play a lot of high end guitars. I enjoy Harley Benton's. When I gig I'm loading out a 1 AM in the morning, I refuse to take my vintage Les Paul's out to play a Bar and Grill or Pub. Good way to get ripped off and mugged at your truck. Everyone knows the value of high end guitars these days because of UA-cam. Los Angeles
Ruebezahl !!! I have to admit though, at least for me, I liked the original better, and I think it will cut through a mix better. But this was a very cool experiment!
If you happen to wander into quicksand with your P90 guitar, those are likely the last muddy tones you might hear. But who cares at that point? I would play that until the end, so...
I have a feeling you might not be playing in its full potential. higher ohms also means you might need more power. kinda like a dac for high ohms headphone
No, Thank You. You have brought me untold hours of merriment since I first DeathMetal acostinked for the goodie bag you sent me. ( i’m still using the strap locks) I wish I hadn’t deleted and restarted my channel so many times... I may have to redo that vid soon. Have a great birthday Sir Rubisal I’m just now at the end of the video
i want to put both pickups in a les paul (epiphone... money dont grow on trees). i imagine rolling the tone a bit on the 60ohm pickup, then using a 16ohm bridge tone way up. and messing with the volume on both.
Go for it dude. I’ve bought 2. 1 Les Paul Special and a LP JR DC. They are both fantastic. Really good guitars stock and can be great with a few mods. Nut and tuners were solid and didn’t need upgrading. Pickups were okay. The only thing I felt “needed” upgrading were the pots and electronics.
Being a HUGE Doom / Sludge fan... that pickup sounds mint. That nasal mid in a P90 with the high frequency rolled off a bit (which is what happens with high output pickups) sounds crazy good. Would love to hear this pick up through an HM2 / HM2 clone. Maybe if Boss send you the Waza HM2 you could use this guitar in the demo? WOULD ENJOY.
Stock HB P90 sounds great. 60k P90 pickup is interesting and got the red guitar playing nicely again but I wouldn't swap the Roswell out of the blue one.
Jupp ... had the same experience with "overwound" P90 ... loss of definition! So i do prefer the "low output" PU * TubeScreamer approach. Thanks a lot for sharing.
I do the same as Matze R basically, stock output P90 through a Tube Works Tube Driver in front of amp. Sounds better there than inserting after preamp. But a 60k P90 is trying to sound like something else. It sounds good though. What about a 16k P90 you could also tap at about 8k, for the bridge? But either/both positions I suppose. Just thoughts. Nice job!
@@TheGuitarGeek DCR is measured easily, take away the strong magnets, and the output is gone, but the DCR is still there. DCR is not working he best way to measure a pickup. Do you know the Channel "Dylan Talks Tone"? Dylan is a PU-Master-builder. DCR tells you about how often the PU is wound and about the wire-gauge, but you still need hot magnets to match a hot wound PU. The Rübezahl-guy is also a PU-Master-Builder, he knows exactly what he does, so I guess he has some really hot magnets down there. Sounds great 👍 merry Christmas bless you 🙏 my friend ❤
Ruebetzahl ….sounds good
Rubzan (this is russian guitarists joke sort of)
The roswell sounds more like a p90 should sound, clear and bright.
I love sludge metal and i play a pig90 in the bridge of a special and my sonex and I love it
I prefer the Roswell Pickup.

Hi ruberSal, I prefer the stock version
cool
If you are going to use this playing style, try playing Danzig 'i'm tired of being alive' or 'twist of cain' and 'under her black wing'. !

Rip the tone knob out and wire it straight to the jack. That's what I do with a mudbucker.

I can’t hear the difference tbh honest old boy

no...i am not making a hole in the guitar... well....

yeah! 40k subscribers! Congratulations!
I may be in the minority but I would prefer a more vintage tone with the pup and use a pedal if that is not enough.
5:30 - i’d recommend googling “ single pick up 50s WIRING“ to try and squeeze out some sort of clarity on this monster!
It's like Bryan May and Rod Hull had a lovechild.
Congrats on hitting 40k, good luck with the stretch goals. Are subs like age? Because age is just a number.
You are right. 40 is a nice, round number though

The original is twangy and thinner, the new is more full bodied all around
4:31 - what’s the music in the background while you solder the pick up, please?
Amazing video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 ‘ruebezahl’ 🤘🏻👍🏻
Ruebezahl DOOMS!
Sounds amazing....
Yeah man! You hit 40k!
Sometimes less seem to be more. More high end frequncies on the stock one , like it more .
they are two very different sounds for sure
Output is not measured in ohms... Loudest neck pickup in my telecasters has 3.35 Kohms, the quietest has 5.5
Definitely louder, sounds fuller, more power! I l’m a sucker for P90’s but that thing is awesome!
Just... Wow. 😳🎸
It sounds great!
More gain More punch on mee one

Sounds like a great plan
How is the noise with a 60Kohms P90 ???
louder...with loss of highs?
That pickup sounds and IS beefy. 🥩
Could it be it sounds baritone like? I don’t have a baritone guitar yet, but heard them in reviews.
a smaller cap on the tone pot might just be the thing for that mush
What? don't have a HIWATT for those P90s?
noope! (sad face)

I agree, isn't the idea of a P90 to be like a teleon steroids - not thrashymetal?
