This video is a brief introduction to sprinkler valves, manifolds, and boxes. There are many different brands and styles of valves that irrigation systems use. Rainbird, Hunter, Irritrol, Weathermatic, and Toro arej ust a few irrigation valves that are popular. Also, what does a manifold look like? How do you build one? At the end, Ill show you how to take apart and repair a sprinkler valve.

When I have valve that won’t shut off I always change the whole top part of valve with new top and solenoid. Can solenoid ever have a problem causing valve not to shut off?

Yes a solenoid can fail, leaving it in the “on” position. You can use a multi meter to check the volts going into the solenoid and/ or the continuity of the solenoid wires. Usually the cost to replace the diaphragm by itself and the whole top half of the valve is pretty similar. It doesn’t hurt to replace both.
