I really don’t understand all the negative comments about the sugar! You did a beautiful job... and it’s supposed to have that much because it’s not a bread to be used for sandwiches and such! It’s a bread that is served with butter or is toasted in a pan/browned and served somewhat hot with tea or coffee most of the times! It’s not a regular bread... people just don’t know! 🤦🏻 YOU DID AN EXCELLENT JOB!! You’re awesome
Tks for sharing this bread making tutorial with us. Happy you're apart of the bread making family like myself on these YT street. Looking forward in us sharing.
Thank you for sharing your video and recipe. I started making this bread back in the early 80's after a co-worker shared her recipe with me. It's delicious 😋.
I made this, used only half a cup of sugar, just enough Bud beer to make the dough look like image. Tastes like the old Bisquick recipes. Coffee cake, pineapple upside down cake, cinnamon rolls. Definitely would make this again as a base for a dessert like that.
Family tradition! Ill do this but just use a fraction of the sugar..gonna add spring onions and cheese to it and see how it turns out..great instruction and video!
C teen...great recipe.I added a little bit of salt...Im eating it right now.Your bread is beautiful.Cook on. I have added marachino cheries to it...devine...
You can use alcohol free beer or low alcohol beer. At least in my country alcohol free beer and beer with alcohol up to 2.25% can be bought and so by anybody no matter age. :)
Would need some rising agent, like baking soda. Or baking powder. Or yeast of some kind, even sourdough starter. Some people have used soda pop (softdrink) in place of the beer. Apparently.
Jwh Merica A nice sour cherry beer makes a good loaf too. I think my neighbors think i took up drinking. Lol. Ive been getting package deliveries from the liquor store for my beer bread and homemade red wine vinegars. Roflmbo. If only o had half the fun they think i am.
+k0nina It definitely is a sweeter bread, so if you were thinking it might be more savory, it isn't quite that. I'm sorry if the recipe didn't work out as you had planned! It is something my family and I really love having every once and a while. Thanks for the comment. xo
K Onina I make my beer bread with out sugar. It tastes lile old - fashioned yeast bread my grand mother used to make occasionally. Great yeast bread with out all that work !!! Yours too I guess 🐑🦋
I have never made it with brown sugar. I imagine you could, but I would use less because of its added sweetness. Past viewers who have made this recipe have commented that it is quite sweet, and it is a sweeter bread. If you prefer savory of sweet, I suggest lowering the sugar amount quite a bit and adding green onion and/or cheddar.
Yes. You can use dark beers, craft beers, sour beers, etc too. And. if you drizzle a little melted butter on top then bake its better. Also, of you don’t want sweet bread you can just add a couple of teaspoons of sugar. Hers is a sweeter loaf than most. Its up to you. Its one of those things thats best tuned to your specific taste and/or that of your family.
It is sweet - but not sweet like banana bread or cake. You could add a pinch of salt if you would like; although, I am not sure if that will greatly add much flavor. The beauty of self-rising flour is that it doesn't need time to proof. I do let the bread sit for about 10 minutes after I mix it together to let the oven come to temperature.
Putting that much sugar in your bread can't be healthy... Here's how I make my bread... Step 01 Put 3 or 4 half cups of water into a mixing bowl, I use glassware, make sure the temperature of the water is between 100 to 105 degrees to promote yeast activation. Step 02 Sprinkle some white sugar gently on top of the water, without stirring, and then empty one package of Fleishman's Active Yeast gently on top of the water, again, without stirring. On top of this, sprinkle sugar granules across the surface of the water so that the yeast can feed off of it. Don't worry about measuring cups etc, just use your fingers and sprinkle; Pretend you are feeding your pet gold fish... Step 03 Cover loosely, and place towel on top so they can eat in comfort and darkness! The process is a success when you see a circular area of foam resting on top of the water, ...When you notice this, sprinkle more sugar on top of the foam to give them seconds. Cover as previously and wait about 5 minutes giving them time to enjoy their food. Step 04 Once the time has elapsed, the foam should have spread over the top of the water, ...add your beer at this stage, followed by 1 tablespoon of olive oil, a handful of wheat flour (optional), and half a teaspoon, to 1 tablespoon of salt, your choice, as bread is very forgiving. Eventually you'll develop your own strategy over time, discovering what works and what does not. Add in normal handfuls of unbleached white flour in increments until you get a pancake mixture, at this point you can add in minced garlic, or whatever ingredient you prefer, stir and continue adding increments of flour until it no longer sticks to the bottom of the glassware. Step 05 Transfer the dough to a cutting board powdered with flour, and begin the kneeding process. Do not over knead, and do not under need, at this stage you are not adding more flour to the dough, but if you run by any stick parts, put flour on your hands and then the dough, to remove the stickiness. When you have finished kneading the bread, clean your glassware, and put a small coating of olive oil so that the dough does not stick when trying to rise. Form the dough into somewhat of a ball, place in the bowl and move it around so that the dough is lightly coated as well on all sides. Step 06 Have some boiled water still steaming ready at this stage, because we are going to put the glassware in the oven (turned off), and place the boiling pot of water next to it, and then shut the oven door, and let it rest, covered, or uncovered, doesn't matter, for 35 minutes. The process is successful if the dough has risen after 35 minutes to more than half the bowl size. Step 07. Take the bowl out, press down gently, nothing more, warm oven up for 15 seconds, turn oven off and put glassware back in oven closing the door keeping the warm air in. The yeast organisms love this temperature. Wait for 35 more minutes for the 2nd rising. The dough should have risen slightly higher than previously during the 1st rising. Step 08 Pour dough onto cutting board without flattening it, because it will automatically flatten when it hits the cutting board, form it into balls, lines, or whatever shape you prefer. I use a glass casserole dish and I coat the bottom and sides with olive oil, then place the shaped dough in the dish. Step 09 Make an eggwash by cracking one egg into a container, add a few drips of water, shake very well, than spread this over the top of the dough bread; This will help give the outside of the crust that crispiness, while on the inside will be fluffy. Cook at 375 degrees for around 35 to 40 minutes, check halfway in-between; Because it makes your apartment smell like bread, lol Once your timer goes off, let the bread sit on the counter for about 5 minutes, do not place in freezer hot, ...waiting until it cools down. You can eat it right away if you have prepared your dinner in conjunction with the bread.
I'm 58, & tried recipe, with 3 tablespoons sugar, (can use less) & came out great! Thank you, honey!!!

I would drink beer while making this.
Very good presentation
Great recipe!
Beerbread has a couple of centuries long tradition over here, it is nice to see it beeing made overseas. ;-)
I made some and it is great and easy . Now I have to go and buy more beer.
My 3-ingredient beer bread recipe includes only 3 tablespoons of sugar. I like to optionally toss in some raisins or dried cranberry. Cheers!
I had the same impression, all that sugar makes cake.
I would say, "nailed it"!
Looks awesome, I will try it tonight.
well explained and great, easy imformative, presetation

Why so much sugar? I usually only use a tbsp. in yeast bread. Can you use less sugar?
Thanks for watching and supporting my channel! :)
Can you use a Margarita beer?
Can i change with cola?
Good Job!
3+1/4 cups self-raising flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
12oz beer
325°F for 50-69 minutes
👍😎👍❤️. Looks yummy !
Family tradition! Ill do this but just use a fraction of the sugar..gonna add spring onions and cheese to it and see how it turns out..great instruction and video!
That sounds amazing! I will definitely have to try the spring onion and cheese additions. Hope it is tasty - let me know!
Its baking as I type this... I used brown sugar and a dark beer though. *fingers crossed*
Could you still make this without any sugar at all?
Does beer bread taste like alcohol?

Good job on the video.

You can make it with sprite or ginger ale too. It just has a slightly different taste.
You should try with peanut butter and honey
This is not bread, it's a sweet biscuit!
Nothing wrong with that.
So if I used all purpose flour it won't work? Because that's was my mom did and it came out hard as a rock
Would need some rising agent, like baking soda. Or baking powder. Or yeast of some kind, even sourdough starter. Some people have used soda pop (softdrink) in place of the beer. Apparently.
This is a sweet beer bread.
looks good i wanna try this
+Iwannabegoodateverything highly recommend it!! add a pat of butter on top and serve with eggs/bacon/etc. YUM
I started making this with high malt stout beers. So much better. IMO.
I use 2T sugar then it’s not too sweet. We love beer bread.
I use 3 cups flour and 3 tablespoons sugar.
I agree it is too sweet with that much sugar. Like a sweet bread almost.
Responsible beer use is good!!
Thank you, a good video, easy to follow instructions
Great recipe and svn better presentation. This is a young woman with a great future in front of her.
Why adding so much sugar to make bread ?
Made this beer bread last night and could not eat it it it is way too sweet
I made it using measuring cups so that i do it correct but it's very sweet :( i would recommend 2-3 tablespoons of sugar and some salt!

It will be a very sweat bread I presume ?? You didnt use any salt...but only a load of sugar...and, it didnt have to proof ???

O, it is March 22, 2020,do not say Corona
Yes, I do like Corona beer with a slice of lime.
Way too much sugar. And there's nothing wrong adding baking soda and powder if all you have is all purpose flour.
Buy bread for half price of beer
That's a lot of sugar for 1 loaf of bread.
Must be American
i cringe when i see people use sugar in everything especially bread.
Can you substitute shitty beer with a beer that actually tastes like something for this recipe?
Haha of course! Use beer you like and have on hand. I can't say for sure how it would change the flavor though. Probably add good depth.
I use dark amber beer it comes out much better
Way too much sugar for me personally. Excellent video though.
Way too much sugar
There is a better, short and easy way to stir the dough, just watch Steve.

Harold McBroom - beer bread doesn’t need to proof !
Dude totally different kind of bread.
