ARE YOU DECLARING A FUEL EMERGENCY?

  • On a long cross Country flight to Chicago, the goal was to do the long segment on the first flight and leave the shorter leg for the second flight. That first segment was planned for Bowling Green, IN, 711 NM away, but with the routing, stronger headwinds than predicted and weather approaching sooner than expected, things had to change... a LOT...

I am NOT a Certified Flight Instructor and my videos are not for instruction purposes. The video is intended for my own personal experiences and for entertainment purposes only. Do not use my video content as information about how to fly an airplane. To properly learn how to fly you MUST visit your local flight school and work with an experienced Certified Flight Instructor.
    FAQs
    - What airplane is this? This is a Cirrus SR22T (Turbo) Generation 6 (G6) built in December 2018.
    - Why do you fly so much? I fly for business primarily supporting my clients and staff at meetings and conferences and vendor partner relationship building for my Government Payments platform company called Autoagent
    - What do you use to record your videos? I use 3 GoPro cameras (models 5, 6, 7), I use ND4, 8, 16 filters on the cameras, I use a Sony FRD-AX53 4K camera with mechanically stabilized optical zoom, my iPhone 13 PRO MAX for many of the video shots you see when the 4K camera is too bulky to carry. I record audio with an old iPhone using voice notes and I use a cockpit audio recording cable I bought on Sporty's.
    - What software do you use to edit your videos? I use Final Cut Pro on a MacBook and iMac
    - Where do you find good royalty free video clips? I use artgrid.io
    - Do you do all the editing? Yes, all this work other than some filler video clips and music is my work 100%
    - What oxygen system do you use? I use Precise Flight cannulas and their X3 oxygen conserver regulators with the boom cannula. Works good but the boom could use some better engineering.
    - Do you promote products? Never! I keep my videos sponsor free and continue have unlimited and unrestricted fun without a "boss" or watching my words.
    - You fly so good don't you make mistakes? I make tons of errors which I will never show you lol
    - Where are you from originally? I was born and raised in beautiful Greece and came to the US as a College student. Loved the Country decided to stay and build my career here. Best decision ever.
    - How do you afford to own an airplane? Airplane ownership can be expensive but when done right, in the US, it becomes a wonderful tax deduction that can allow you to fly for business almost for free. Get trained well, get a bank loan and buy yourself an airplane for your business.

I love how you verbalise your thinking , both on leaving on the Sunday giving yourself enough time for contingencies, as well as explaining your alternative airports with a possible low fuel situation. You were always ahead of the plane. Better to take more time safely to bet to your destination than the alternative.

You got that right, I was filming our flight out to see our great-nephews 1st birthday and we had 3 approach frequency changes on the north side of Nashville, Southwest flew right under us, although it looked closer to the naked eye than on video and a heading change (I think ATC forgot that part) I was so close/high to Lebanon before they switched me, that I ended up crossing midfield and tear-dropping in the pattern…. Once on CTAF they’re were planes everywhere! That’s one busy little airport!!!

The correct call to ATC is to declare "minimum fuel." Saying, "I'm just playing it safe," means nothing. Proper communication in a situation like this is crucial. Ambiguity in communication is a threat! TEM is at the core of good airmanship.

    • @NikosWings
      @NikosWings  Рік тому

I did not have minimum fuel buddy and as long as in my mind it was communicated that’s all I needed. Keep in mind that ATC doesn’t matter as much, you are the boss for your flight and you demand what you want. The buck ends with you not ATC.

Not saying that I would do that all the time because I like playing it safe too but sometimes it is not as bad as it looks in the MFD
