  • SHEESH talk about an emotional episode. Thank you so much for watching my reaction to Moon Knight Episode 5, "Asylum." I was left near speechless after this episode. What was revealed was truly tragic, traumatic and awful for Marc to have experienced. One more episode to go, wonder what is in store for us as Marc or Moon Knight!

      Truly an emotional episode. I seldom see you cry yet here I am watching you wipe a tear away the same time as I do mine. So much for being a grown man. Also once again I am amazed at your insight into the minds of Mark and Steven as in I never thought of those things when I first watched these episodes.

    Whenever Steven is "leaving a voicemail" for his mum, you can see he ends it and then the hand holding the phone just drops without him visibly hanging up. In this episode you can see when Marc stops fronting and Steven starts that he just lifts the phone to the side of his head. Looking at the screen, its not even on a phone app, he didn't dial anything. Steven leaving voicemails always highlights the ways he wishes things could go, like how "well" the date went. His entire life of having a good relationship with a kind, loving mother is not only part of an imagined ideal, but he's further projecting a happier, better version every day because he wants so desperately to be happy. For just as long as he keeps talking, he can picture what it would be like to be a man, calling his mother, talking about his beloved pet goldfish and the date he's got planned. But, he can never have that. Just a tragic, tragic man who's an alter in a system that is altogether just walking tragedy.

    Emme: "I am not a murderer!"
    Us: "That's a suspiciously unprompted denial...."
    I never imagined that a Disney MCU tv show would manage to approach the dark weirdness of the comic at its best, but this episode absolutely nails it.

    23:01 that was a way to make Steven face the truth. People with DID are often in strong denial about something in their life or their past, just like Steven was. Usually the only way to make them realize it is to put them in a corner like that.

  • @Galaxia7
    @Galaxia7 Рік тому +31

    27:10 ah, I was expecting that reaction. 90% of people had the same reaction. I guess the producers wanted to point to that before subverting it. Still, that proves popculture has a long way to go before portraying DID correctly so that not everyone jump to that conclusion.
    Moon Knight isn't Moon Knight without Steven (and Jake) too. And Systems don't have to fuse to be happy. Actually, Marc would get worse without Steven and Jake. He always got worse without them in the comics.

      I guess I view this differently. I don’t think this portrays fusion because Steven didn’t fuse into Marc, Steven is in the sand, his memories, his desires, his dreams, his aspirations, his attitude towards life is all left behind in the sand and he didn’t fuse into Marc, Jake is in the Sarcophagus and hadn’t open that yet, so that is separate, that’s the only reason he was balanced because it was only him just Marc but in Episode 6 when Marc was like no and went to Steven they were now both balanced because Marc could now accept Steven.
      For Me I don’t think Final Fusion is the right answer of course because back then it was only this way and your healed type of thing now Healthy Multiplicity is for most people’s goals.
      Sorry typing later just watching this reaction.
      Good example of Two different Systems will be The Entropy System which they live a Healthy Multiplicity lives and travel to different places with their spouses and MultiplicityAndMe did Final Fusion and is living her best lives with her child and spouse

      FINAL EPISODE AND ENDGAME SPOILERS:
      It's really interesting, I feel like the reason she concluded that the fantastical mythological world wasn't real is actually because she hasn't watched much Marvel. The show really leans into that idea, that the psychiatric hospital is real, but I don't think it's very easy for a long time MCU fan to believe, because Marvel can often be fairly formulaic and predictable, and they've never gone that far with any of their movies/shows. Even with Infinity War, while they killed off tons of characters, Endgame reversed most of those deaths. Not to mention that that decision to make the mythological stuff in Mark's head would possibly mean that he didn't ever even have powers to begin with, which isn't really something Marvel would do.

    30:05 no they were indeed in the underworld the whole time. There were just many layers of consciousness to it. Think of it like Inception if you saw that movie. Episode 5 was a mind-ception with 3 different depths : the memories, with Tawaret on the boat, and in the office with Dr Harrow.

    Yup, this is what Marvel does. You think you're going to watch a "superhero" movie or show, and they wind up smacking your emotions all over the damn place. That said, I love them for it! Over and over again they keep introducing you to these characters you may or may not ever heard of before, and you wind up caring so much for them! Your reactions are some of my favorites. You approach these crazy stories with such a curiosity and an open intellect. Hope you're enjoying the journey!

      A common misconception of superheroes as a medium is that it is only action. Superheroes/comic book characters have the same rules as basically any form of fiction: They work because they reflect some aspect of truth and reality in our lives, which means they go through trials, tribulations, and tragedies, like we do. That's what makes them compelling. The action is cool, but they would not work as well if not for their basis in reality.

  • @Galaxia7
    @Galaxia7 Рік тому +2

    26:27 fusion is indeed a thing, but not for the Marc system. That's not who they are. They're always a system, and they're stronger that way. Yeah usually in scifi or fantasy with characters that are 'parts' of each other fusion is always the solution but these stories don't portray DID. Actual accurate DID is very rare in media.
    But you're not that far about what the lesson of their story arc is though. They do have to accept each other, but that doesn't mean they'll 'become one' or that they have to.
    Knowing that helps understand what happens to Steven at the end. 90 % of people who reacted to the dhow focused on what it meant for Marc's are, because tgst episode was pretty centered on him and his memories.
    The clever trick the writers and producers did here is that episode 5 is still about Steven and his story-arc. It was about Steven learning the truth, learning who Marc really is, and learning about who *he* is, and what his place is in their system. The scales balanced not because Marc had to let go of Steven, or made peace with his past (he will never be able to do that), the scales balanced because *Steven* finally stepped up as Marc's protector. Steven didn't have to die for the scale to balance, but by sacrificing himself to save Marc, it did balance the scales

    I like to say the Doctor Harrow part is the Inner World every time one of them gets overwhelmed they retreat into the Inner World that’s why it’s so familiar, the office is the same place as Harrow’s man cave, the desk is the same when Steven was taking to the HR person, the reason the bandage is different is probably because it’s first Jake then Marc and then Steven, they all have different parts of the Trauma, Jake physical, Marc emotional and Steven not knowing that.

    I just recently discovered your channel,watching your reaction to Obi-Wan and because I was fascinated by the idea of seeing someone watching Star Wars anew in the actual sequential order that they take place as opposed to the chronological order they were released in,and because of your thoughtful Insight.Because you ask so many questions that will eventually be explained that we who are familiar with Star Wars already know and your speculation about those possible answers,which I have found fascinating. Because of this I decided to sub your channel and watch your reaction to a Marvel show I really enjoyed because it left me guessing every episode like you! I would next recommend you watching Wanda Vision,but I know you're going to do it in chronological order of release and although this is one of the most recent releases it's slightly outside of the main story lines of the movies and the other Disney Plus shows,so it's basically a standalone series, but the mystery and the acting in it is on par with this series! Dare I say no spoilers,but it's even more of a mind Bender it will leave you guessing because for every answer there are a thousand additional questions that pop up exponentially. It's been fun getting a glimpse of how your mind works and how you deduce things and how accurate your theories and predictions are! So I've been fascinated and entertained! But just to clarify without any spoilers Mark is dead! He is in the afterlife the psychiatric hospital was his mental projection while he was dying on the way to his final destination and as he stated the reason that he projected it as a psycho ward is because he feels he's crazy because he has multiple personalities! And there are multiple different planes of untethered Consciousness that different people who believe in different deities go to when they die,this just happens to be one he finds himself in because it's Egyptian, and as Mark was growing up when he became Steven and pretended to be a Indiana Jones type character who specialized in Egyptology he learned a great deal about Egypt so his subconscious mind would take the path that the ancient Egyptians believe would take place after you died! But once again he's dead the psych ward was just a projection because of his mind's unrest and the fact that he is mentally ill! I look forward to your reaction to the final episode and most importantly your continuing Journey Through the Star Wars universe!👍✌️

    This episode was one of the best hours of anything Marvel has ever produced. So crazy to think how Oscar Isaac pulled it off, (FYI, in case you didn't know, his actual brother acted as the stand-in for the Marc/Steven scenes, so Isaac was talking to his literal brother while acting about the death of his fictional brother) and how great that Marvel wanted to even do something like this. Love your reactions and how you engage with the content!
