What a surprise to discover this - Carol has always been a great singer - too bad all her other brilliances sidelined it - she sells the rueful weariness of this song to perfection - & navigates the tricky melody with ease and unerring pitch - damn, so good
Great singer. No.
Ruthie’s “In the looks and the lies” is PERFECTION!!
My fondest kudos to those lucky enought to be there in the audiance.
This really is wonderful. Haunting. Who knew Carol had it in her? Both ladies are extraordinary- should've both been nominated for Tonys that year.
I'd forgotten what a great singer Carol Burnett is. I can imagine she'd be great on stage in a musical as she shows here.
This is my fave version, Ruthie takes it to another level !
What can't she do? Carol is everything.
I love this version. So beautiful!
I really enjoyed it
I’ve always loved her voice.

Ms. Hannigan?
Every day a little death
In the parlor, in the bed
In the curtains, in the silver
In the buttons, in the bread
Every day a little sting
In the heart and in the head
Every move and every breath
And you hardly feel a thing
Brings a perfect little death
He smiles sweetly
Strokes my hair, says he misses me
I would murder him right there
But first I die
He talks softly of his wars
And his horses and his whores
I think love's a dirty business
So do I, so do I
I'm before him on my knees
And he kisses me
He assumes I'll lose my reason
And I do
Men are stupid, men are vain
Love's disgusting, love's insane
A humiliating business
Oh, how true
Ah, well, everyday a little death
Every day a little death
In the parlor, in the bed
In the lips and in the eyes
In the curtains, in the silver
In the buttons, in the bread
In the murmurs, in the gestures
In the pauses, in the sighs
Every day a little sting
Every day a little dies
In the heart and in the head
In the looks and in the lies
Every move and every breath
And you hardly feel a thing
Brings a perfect little death
Carol Burnette sings? I had no idea!
She started out on Broadway in "Once Upon a Mattress"
Barely.
Tempo!
@chelseyminkler i agree, she does all the cliches
@chelseyminkler i agree, she does all the cliches plus her timing is really off but i like ruthie henshall
@jjaniero she is trying to make in too contemporary. lol idk, i like her but yeah I sung this song in a wayyy dif interpretation
The song was taken out of its original setting in A Little Night Music and put in a Sondheim review called Putting It Together set during a black tie cocktail party in a New York penthouse.
I think this kinda ruins the song.
i think you're kinda full of sh*t
