Join me as I traverse the rugged terrain of Southern New Mexico in a 2020 Mercedes Sprinter 4x4, retracing the historic Butterfield Overland Mail Trail. Established in 1857, the Butterfield trail served as a vital link for transportation and communication between St. Louis and San Francisco, reducing the cross-country journey from months to just days. As I navigate the same paths once traveled by stagecoaches and pioneers, I uncover the untold stories of endurance and perseverance etched into the desert landscape. Experience the thrill of off-grid exploration and witness the timeless beauty of the American Southwest on this unforgettable journey along the Butterfield trail.

Please, please have more videos like this. This is one of the best episode of forgotten history that hardly anyone knows about. Or really do the research for something like this. Your film work is phenomenal and I look forward to each video you do. Please do more history like this or anything near it. Maybe one day I can do work like this. Then again, we have your videos. You are awesome! Keep up the wonderful work. Thank you so much!

Why was I so thirsty while watching this video?
32:18 That's where you want a metal detector. It's probably picked clean at this point but just the search alone can get the adrenaline flowing. I always thought that back in the day before banks, people would hide their valuables in stone or foundation walls. Not to mention the stuff they drop out of their pockets.

Butterfield had 3 rules on his overland stage coaches. 1. Men could not use or have grease their hair (dust), 2. No talk of Politics 3. No religious discussions or proselytizing.

Such a little fire compared to the norm. Might be worth getting a little Solo Stove Mesa XL that you could tuck into your other SS. I couldn't imagine trying to keep cattle in that environment, those poor cows have got to be miserable. That house was super cool! I love exploring stuff like that.

Butterfeild mapped the route that avoided the Trail of Tears. Better weather.
I would love to do both. Not walking but can camping through the routes sounds like a real retirement road trip. Just disappear from NY , go exploring across the Trail of Tears route, shoot into Alaska for a spell (I’m tired of winter) then go down the west coast from Alaska to Mexico, then come back up and travel east following Butterfeild’s mail route. Stop in the middle, go up to Colorado, cut east across to in a zig zag 😂 spend some time in Texas (space stuff) travel all the way to Florida and spend some time in Florida (space stuff) then creep back up north to spend time with family before doing it again. ❤ those are my retirement dreams.
